Jam on Fumble
« on: 09 October 2023, 10:50:03 »
Maybe I need more coffee, but what is the mechanic for after a weapon jams on a fumble?

I can only find vague references to it in the book.

There does not appear to be one. I usually use TW as precedent in these cases—whether it's an Ultra jam or a Rotary jam left to the GM.

I'm sure there's a a rule somewhere, but my netbook is too slow to search AToW efficiently.  I should he back on my normal machine next weekend.

I have not found anything, in the core rulebook or companion. The latter is one of the vague references, in the maintenance section, alluding to the possible need for a repair.

I at least found a mention of jamming under the Suppressing Fire rules, so I suspect it's tucked somewhere equally obscure.

There is a mention of using a simple action to clear, but it's under Rapid Fire, and for vehicular scale weapons that misfire.

But jam and misfire appear to be different things as it pertains to small arms. Misfire does damage to the user on a fumble.

I'll see if I can beat this ancient netbook into finding it after work tonight, thanks! :)

My gut would be to use a Complex Action to clear.

Still beating on the machine to search... my gut is for a Simple Action, maybe with a successful Small Arms roll.  That way, a bad jam can become a Complex Action or more with repeated failed rolls.

ATOW needs a comprehensive, editorial review. Maybe it's because our group is playing it so much, but we keep finding things like this over and over.

No argument there!  It's one of the reasons my post index is so long.

Yeah, no official rule for Aimed Shots either, just mods. Not to mention all the non-Burst Fire weapons with recoil mods. Also, removing Thick/Thin Skinned broke compatibility with a lot of publications.

Finally home, and was able to do full text search (to include the one mention of "Jaime Wolf").  Since there doesn't appear to be a RAW answer, I'm off to the rules forum!

And Paul answered almost instantly!  It just takes a Simple Action to clear.  :)
