Having checked out camo specs, how do you get your decals to stand out so well. I have tried painting white before I apply the decal from FPG, but I still cannot get defined images I see elsewhere. What am I missing?

Can you provide an example? I usually just stick the decal on, apply a couple coats of Citadel 'Ardcoat and then spray it with a matte finish.

GW would have you put down a layer of 'Ardcoat and place the decal on that, then once it's dry give the area a layer of Lahmian Medium:

The best way to do decals however is with this

The most reliable approach is to brush on a small amount of Gloss Varnish on the location where the waterslide decal will be placed.
Allow it to dry.
Apply the decal over the Gloss Varnish
Allow to set
Apply Gloss Varnish over the set decal
Allow to dry
Apply Matt Varnish over entire model

The main thing I will recommend is always use plenty of heat to seal that decal down flush to the model. I stick mine in front of a forced air heater so it's basically like getting hit with a big hair dryer.

I paid for my Atlas by selling action figures.

I agree with everything in that tutorial
except
the part about using tweezers. I use a wet paint brush; while that's a bit more fiddly than tweezers, it's also much less likely to tear/damage the decal. If you're OK with occasional decal destruction, tweezers are faster.
