Why as a Heavy Vehicle though?  I'm pretty sure you could do it as a light one... :)

I was emulating the Merkava tank from Real Life with the Boomhauer. hence why it's a 60 ton design rather than any lighter.

Hmmm... even with Fractional Accounting, I can only get it up to (just shy of) 13.5 tons of armor (max) and 7.5 tons of infantry (SAW doesn't do FA for turrets right yet) at 50 tons.  Of course, you could shave a few armor points for the extra infantry if you wanted to...

Real-life Merkavas carry 60mm mortars and grenade launchers (along with a couple machine guns and the main cannon) to suppress infantry from a safe distance in built-up environments.  Maybe a BT Merkava would also have a mech mortar and couple grenade launchers.

A MM-1 would fit in the turret without increasing the (non-FA) weight... :)

The real-life Merkava has a bit of space in the back to put a couple of troops if you carry a reduced ammunition load, not several platoons worth.  A closer Merkava emulation probably wouldn't go much higher than 1 ton of infantry space.

On the plus side that would free up enough weight to fit that mortar, grenade launchers and even an AMS to emulate the Merkava IV.

If you're only going for one ton of Infantry, a Goblin will do (and a fusion engine makes it that much better!). :)

OP's ride works just fine for a battle armor carrier.

Interestingly you can make a fusion quasi-Goblin both much lighter and cheaper than the normal one by putting the weight savings into having a smaller platform instead of more guns.  At 25 tons, comes out to about 525 BV (vs 555) and 493k C-Bills (vs 607k for a vanilla Goblin).  You just lose a few points of structure and exactly 1 armor point while gaining a free ton.

ICE and big energy weapons don't mix well, you almost always get better results in every regard by taking fusion engines and downsizing the vehicle with the newly freed mass.  This holds everywhere from the Goblin to the Bulldog to the Ontos.

I need actual stats to believe you can get a Goblin down to two crew (30 tons)... if you don't mind, of course... ;)

Fusion engines essentially always beat ICE even in cost in combat vehicles due to the free heat sinks. The only exceptions are slow artillery/missile carriers where the heat sinks are useless and the engine is light.

ICE over fusion is mostly a fluff choice. If you can't get a SFE, get an ICE and build a bigger tank to fit it. Or strip out equipment to save weight. Personally I think fusion variants of tanks like the Goblin would add stuff - e.g. the Goblin might add 2 tons infantry plus a SRM6 and a pair of LRM5s forward (keeping the same turret).

Personally I am glad the boomhauer sparked this convocation. Personally though this is more of BA and Mechanized Infantry carrier with it's tonnage in troop capacity but sometimes it's difficult to beat having infantry(or Battle Armor) at your side.

Squad Deployment is pretty cool... that's really the reason I love 1-ton infantry compartments.  :)

Well, and that you can make 10-trooper Platoons with 2-trooper squads (Sniper Rifle for range, Grenade Launcher for damage)... >:)
