Missing Sub-Capital Weapons
« on: 01 February 2025, 02:25:02 »
I'm not sure why we didn't get Sub-Capital Gauss or PPCs, so here's my stab at them:
Code: [Select]
Weapon Type Ht (Aero)  Dmg (Aero) Rng (Aero)   Ammo Base Date Cost Weight Space
SC Gauss CAP,AE   7 (7)     60 (6-C) * (Long-C)     6   IS 3073 10M/30K 1,500 1-C*
SC PPC CAP,AE 65 (65)    40 (4-C) * (Long-C)    NA   IS 3073 1M 1,000 1-C*

I aimed to make the SC PPC heavier and hotter than a NL/35, and shorter ranged and less damage than a NL/45.  The SC Gauss was harder to dial in, but I think it works with more range but less damage than a Heavy SCC.

Interesting; I fear having more long range subcaps would make them too good, but since they're meant to work alongside such extreme-range guns it makes sense.

I also always laugh when I remember the creator of subcapital guns did so because they hate warships and wanted them very dead, but accidentally made the best supplementary guns for them .

Thanks!  I deliberately aimed below the Capital weapons, and it seems I made it... :)

Interesting. I think I like them.

WarShips are just inevitable and all attempts to remove them (rules wise) just lead back to them

I keep hoping we'll see some kind of new expansion for them like an Alpha Strike-sort of game, but its still only one of the many 'I want to do' projects to put together some kind of 'Aerospace Workbook' to help people learn to play the game.

There is Alpha Strike for Warships. It's just mostly on the AS Companion and Interstellar Ops. Basically becomes zone defense which I actually am ok with.

Battletech can definitely use a SC Gauss and a SC PPC, although these are a bit heavier than expected (when compared to other SC weapons).

I was trying to mirror their Capital counterparts.  Gauss are WAY heavier than NACs, and I didn't want the PPC to outshine the NL/35.

You do not have to worry about the NL/35, it was designed to be the worst possible capital energy weapon.

I like them. I would love to put these in some Pocket Warships.
A custom weapon for MegaMek would be awesome to have.
