A question on VTOL cargo.
« on: 17 March 2025, 23:28:19 »
Sorry if this is not the right place to ask this kind of question. So I was trying to make a VTOL transport for motorized infantry however the end result ended up being a 60 ton support VTOL with 1/2 MP. This is in no way practical.

However I had an Idea what if I used lift hoists with 4 I could carry a 50 - 100 ton metal box/trailer and load it up with the infantry 1-2 of these units and still maintain 3/5 VTOL MP. However I do not know if this would be allowed to carry a unit as cargo that itself is internally carrying units as cargo so I ask if anyone knows or can weigh in.

How many motorized infantry are you trying to carry within that VTOL? I think you should perhaps think of reducing your platoon size and just deploying more VTOLs or use a Small Craft instead.

Presumably knowing you, you should look at WiGEs instead for the dropship based aerial deployment.

So alpha this was actually for a pure c tech world. Thank you for reminding me of the obvious solution though split squad in half problems solved thanks

Wouldn’t the trireme just work? Depending on era

36 ton cargo bay, goes 6/9. And yes, 60t support VTOL

motorized infantry

Do you mean MECHANIZED infantry?

Motorized Platoons are only 6 tons & shouldn't be an issue.
The basic 3025 era Karnov-UR has a 6 ton capacity & I is probably my favorite unarmed unit.

Not sure if that is Tech-C or not, but it's pretty basic.

Are you wanting tactical or strategic movement?  B/C VTOLs can sling loads . . .

While that might be Motorized for "movement" those are Field Gun Platoons and not at all the same thing.
Optional Rules, Custom Platoons, etc etc.  You didn't mention any of that.

Now all that said.......

IDK, you might be able to still use a Karnov.
I'd have to check the rules for sling loaded Cargo but I think it can match it's weight, so 30 tons of guns to go with 6 for the MotorScooterBoyz.

Strategic colt. I was using VTOL as the shown way to move motorized field gun infantry to the area needing fortification. Alpha mirage gave me the solution though. Split unit in half only 18 tons instead of 36 though my other idea was a trailer that stored infantry carried externally through lift hoists

If you are doing strategic movements they do not all need to be together but you have plenty of options- FREX I did up a QRF using some FB-335s which could transport armor, BA, and infantry to shore up defensive positions lacking mechs.
