Body Guard rules
« on: 08 April 2018, 08:13:26 »
Are there any rules regarding the use of bodyguards in battletech?  Imagine Colonel Jamie Wolf and Hans Vordel.  So I was thinking when the bodyguard assumes his role as body guard during a turn, the bodyguard's mech is easier to hit so the opposing side would receive a benefit of 2 to target the bodyguard.
In exchange, the commander's mech would be assigned a +1 penalty to hit.  There would be other considerations as well.  The bodyguard benefit wouldn't work if the bodyguard is front of the commander but the firing unit is not in the front firing arc and maybe this special ploy could only be used three times in a game.

                                Bodyguard                              Commander
Base to Hit                   4                                                 4
Medium range               2                                                 2
Target moved 5 hexes   2                                                  2
Bodyguard                     -2                                              +1
Attacker Ran                 2                                                    2
Target number            8                                                   11

Any comments?

I believe TacOps has rules for one unit shielding or blocking fire, but I'm not familiar with the details.

shielding movement is on TO pg 19

Basically you add a mod (in the case of mechs +2) to the TH of an attack that passes through the hex of the shielder. If the incoming attack has a margin of failure of the mod or less (2 for mechs), the shielding unit takes the hit. Units can only shield other units of their height or less.

there are a few more specific rules but you'll have to check out TO - the text block encroaches on "too much copyrighted material for a forum post" territory.
