Diamond Sharks are eager to jump on a Heavy OmniMech using ES/FF combo that Clan Wolf isn't defending with massive forces, that's what happened.  :P

Well, I've always enjoyed the Cauldron-Born, so yet another reason for me to like those lovable rogues, the Sharkfoxes.   ;D
I'm not sure how long you've been around on the forums, though you have a thousand posts. Never take anything JKlantern says seriously unless it's about food.

How the HELL did THAT happen?

They got there first and with the most guns when the Jaguars went bye bye.

It could be possible there are just a lot of production facilities pre-abjuration.  The Ebon Jaguar is everywhere in the homeworlds.  It's prolific enough by the Wars of Reaving that it may be the most heavily produced heavy omni of the time (this is an educated guess based on circumstantial evidence,  the only person I know around here who could even venture and accurate guess is Wantec, or maybe  Ghostbear).  It could just be that there were so many in production that the Sharks built up a surplus through normal trade.  If say the Madrills and Adders both make a bunch of them, they would be willing to trade them to the Sharks for other stuff they need.  The Sharks might just have them in spades to sell to the IS clans.

Am I thinking of a different mech, or wasn't the Cauldron Bourn supposed to use prototype laser heat sinks?

I never cared for it and it has always failed to live up to its hype for me.  It's too fragile and has some spectacularly bad configurations.  Please note that this comes from someone who fields Hellbringer's by choice

Also, I will remain forever convinced that the names got mixed up between the Kingfisher and the Cauldron-Born/Ebon Jaguar in TRO: 3058 and no one would admit it.  The Cauldron-Born name suits the infinitely more rugged "Kingfisher" much better.

Yeah, naming a somewhat-anemically armored explodium carrier after mythical zombies comes off as a cruel joke.

Ooops!  Didn't see that and my apologies.

It's still a fairly lackluster 'Mech though.

Regarding the actual looks of the Ebon Jaguar, I'm a little confused.

I always thought its legs were attached directly to its torso, with its arms directly attached to its hips, like on the Nova and Viper.  Now I see that there are minis on CamoSpecs that represent that configuration as well as one with a separate pelvis for the legs to attach to.

Is there a newer sculpt of the Ebon Jaguar that's available?  It's not made clear on the CamoSpecs site.

I actually like the look of the pelvis-equipped design a lot more.

I always thought the leg/ arm joint mechs look kinda goofy.  anyways I love the C-born.  You just really have to bracket fire that  monster, the armor is not so bad, as long as you keep moving, and keep at least one axis of fire covered.  I like the A config, and the newer one with the HAG.  The B is just a little too hot box for my taste, but its not bad if you bracket fire, and keep it under control.

The B is like a Puma that got fed up of being called a heat hog, went to the gym with Mr Warhawk and then screamed I'LL SHOW YOU WHAT A HEAT HOG IS! before letting off an alfa and igniting some poor worlds atmosphere...

I love the B.  It works well with my Nova H's and Blood Asp A's in my Star Adder aggressor star.
If they don't melt you with the energy guns they'll just close the distance and melt you with their own ambient heat!

Joking aside I do love the B (and those other two mechs).  They require serious finesse and forward thought.  They don't go well with berserker rage, well not more than once per game anyway.  The B is totally useable and right there with the A and H as best layouts of the bunch.

As I understand it, there was a financing group in Australia that was going to start doing sculpts of some of the post-3050 Omnis like the Cauldron Born, Nova Cat, etc.- they made a few of these Cauldron Borns, but to my knowledge they're not available to the public, and none of the others ended up getting done (tragically).

That info is subject to update from those with better/more recent info than I have, but as far as I know the black C-Born above is an orphan of a failed idea, and the other one- with the legs connecting to the shoulders- is the official and only current sculpt.

Given that goofy look, it is a safe bet that the mech has the No Torso Twist quirk, which makes it quite a bit of less attractive to play if one concerns oneself with quirks.

Yup, Ebon Jaguar got itself a resculpt.  Now, if we could just get a better Night Gyr...

I like the Nova Cat mini.  It's a little small and not the most detailed but it's sooooo easy to assemble and it looks pretty good.

I'll agree on the Kingfisher, it would be nice if the mini had, I don't know, a torso!

I like the original Cauldron Born mini, the resculpt is awfully purty though!  Both are good but the resculpt wins.

I refitted my original Cauldron Born minis with hips in the style of the resculpt, greatly improving the look of the mini.  Perhaps I should get some pictures taken and put them somewhere on the forum...

I fell out of favour with heaven somewhere, so I'm here for the hell of it now...

Speaking of Ebon Jaguars with hips, the MechWarrior Online rendition went this route as well.  I think it looks pretty awesome too 8)

not personally a fan of it, since it does away with the low-slung look that i liked. but i can understand why a videogame company that's already seeming to struggle with maintaining everything it wants to do wouldn't want to deal with the task of figuring out how those legs work....

It's a bit tall, but considering that in that game height is a major, potentially game-changing feature of 'Mechs I'm okay with them deciding to go taller instead of making effectively the greatest sniper 'Mech the world has ever known.  High energy mounts, Clan energy weapons, and a low profile where you don't even have to expose the torso to get the weapons on target?  Holy hell that's nasty.

It gives me nice ideas for the IWM mini, like cutting the missile pods so they hug the torso a little more. I would say that Dave White's/ Mecha Master's take on the mech in MW4 Mercs was the best IMO but this is a nice amalgam of the minis and current MWO style.

I do like the MW4 version as well, except the nose... it's offset from center, and I never have been able to determine a reason why. It SHOULDN'T bother me, but...  ;D

(And yes, it bothers me, but the Thor is just fine in my head. Whatever.)
