Lexington once, Texas multiple times. Also been to the Seawolf park in Galveston(I forget the names of the ships there), as well as the Alabama. Also went aboard a destroyer in Baton Rouge, though it's been an extremely long time, and I forget the name of that ship now.
If you ever get a chance, go see the
North Carolina. I've seen her and it's amazing at how well preserved she remains. I was able to enter the forward 16" turret ("A" Turret, IIRC), one of the 5" DP turrets, the bridge, the pilot house, CIC and the 40mm Bofor quad mounts were open as well as the smaller single and double 20mm mounts. There were several other sections of the ship open as well, including the crew berthing, mess hall and infirmary, but I didn't get to take that part of the tour due to the time involved.
Especially interesting was the fact that the
North Carolina had a Kingfisher spotter plane on one of the catapults. The canopy was sealed, naturally enough, but if you'd had the desire I'm pretty sure you could have looked into the cockpit fairly easily.
Finally, as a part of the 16" gun display, the museum had placed a 16" shell on the deck outside of the armored barbette beneath turret "B". Standing on it's end, it easily measured over 4' high and, according to the sign next to it, weighed in at just under 1200 lbs. It was impressive, to say the least.
