I snagged a copy for myself! Hooray!

And now two copies have shown up in my favourite Swedish FLGS as well. Excellent. Preparing online order....

It's actually a common feeling that I have for MWO art. I love nearly every detail, and every technical element, but they are sometimes assembled into a whole that I do not care for. (proportioning mostly.) That doesn't make the art bad, but I don't think it makes my subjective opinion "wrong" either.

Testify!

Transparency - David White is one of my favourite 3D 'Mech modellers, and I'm still very inspired by the MW4 designs he did, even with the limitations of the time. Too busy is also painful to kitbash.

* The Housebook series is from the 80's and is the foundation of Btech, the 80's heart wrapped in heavy metal that beats to this day - Sigma
* To sum it up: FASAnomics: By Cthulhu, for Cthulhu - Moonsword
* Because Battletech is a conspiracy by Habsburg & Bourbon pretenders - MadCapellan
* The Hellbringer is cool, either way. It's not cool because it's bad, it's cool because it's bad with balls - Nightsky

Not only kitbash, but paint. It's hard to do logos over lots of molded plate-lines.

This leads me to several questions:
1. does that mean that all IWM minis will be different from those in the starter box?
2. are those minis made by different artists?
3. How/in which way are the looks altered from one another?
4. My better half and I compared my SHadowhawk from IWM with the one on those pictures in this thread and she said that the plastic Shad would look beefier that the metall one. COuld that be? Or is this due to different lenses/cameras used?

1. Not necessarily. It involves conversations between people above my pay grade, but no matter what, I've learned to not assume anything...
2. The two shadow hawks were modeled by different artists yes, but they both used a more basic design provided by Shimmering Sword, so the end result is quite similar.
3. Hopefully no ways, but there is going to be some differences.  Kinda like the intro box mad cat to the IWM mad cat.
4. I would actually expect the difference to be the other way around, with the IWM model being a bit beefier.  They will be very similar in the end.  Again, look to the mad cats.

Face it - MW:DA had, for its run, massively greater commercial success than BattleTech's ever had. Over two million click-base minis - want to guess where the number of BT minis comes in? I'd guess on the order of a few percent of that. While BT has survived for 30 years, we've never had the same number of players at any point. The pity was that unlike BT, MW:DA ended up being run by businessmen, not game fanatics.

Haha I forgot about this post. I feel like I responded to the wrong thread for some reason ( this is what I get for being too lazy to click the quote button). I put the dragon art revision from the FanPro box / current universe book to contrast with the MWO art, which I feel is way too bulky - hence my allegation that the MWO dragon is on steroids and needs to be tested by the league office immediately

Has there ever been any art of the Dragon with the torso painted like a Dragon's head, as it was mentioned in original 3025, IIRC?

I've seen some Matt Plog commission artwork of the Sorensen's Sabres command lance with the Dragon in it painted to have eyes and a snout, but beyond that I'm not aware of any others off the top of my head.

Maybe this particular Dragon was built on a high gravity world that squished his torso?

True, not the first thing on my wishlist. But it's news about new novels (plural)!

Maybe not an all-out offensive towards world domination. Maybe not even a counterattack to begin reclaiming the glorious legacy of BattleTech fiction. But certainly a cessation of the tactical retrograde advance in the opposite direction of hostile forces at least. So things are absolutely moving in the right direction - well done!

Was there an idea of when they'd be distributing those new boxed sets?  I want some plastic Shads and Wolvies to fill in the different colored teams.

iirc they said earliest would be 6 months. Other than that there was no other information on when they will be released. With the box mockups and the sweet mockups of the minis I do so hope 6 months is the sweet spot but I would think maybe more along the lines of 9-12 months.

Glad for the fiction, concerned that the books are post Jihad and the boxed sets are intro tech.  Hopefully that won't confuse new blood.  "Hey!  Why isn't this a rotary cannon thing?  And where are my plasma rifles?" ;-)

Given that I started reading Battletech fiction while a young adult, and that the YA genre didn't really exist at the time, I kind of thought that most BT fiction fell into the category of books young adults would read.  Hunger Games is YA, and very little BT is more 'adult' than that.
