Scorpion Empire unit design and fluff pointers thread.
« on: 30 March 2023, 12:08:42 »
I am posting this as a sub-thread to the main Scorpion Empire thread. I was contemplating on designing some custom units for the Scorpion empire using stuff they'd have available and some of the improved weapons from the early clan days. But I do not want to contradict established lore too much, so I am asking for some pointers on available tech and what early clan stuff I can use post 3080. Because I find some of the Early Clantech stuff to be interesting in it's own right from a lore perspective.

I've been reading through their stuff recently and by ilClan i believe they can produce most clantech. They also have been trading/fighting with Clan Sea Fox so there's plenty of room for them to have gotten ahold of whatever you want. I may have misunderstood what your asking though.

No you hit the nail on the head and I was also asking if the 'improved' stuff from the early clan days was still in production with them in case you were wondering.

The improved tech from the early Clan days are not being produced, however it does seem to be a lot of early Clan mechs still in the ranks of the Empire.

You don't have to just do Clantech either. Between them and the periphery powers they conquered there's a lot of IS designs to add to a few exclusive Clan mechs that, by the ilClan era, you can't find anywhere else.

I.E. The Lancelot C, the Crockett, and the Warhawk.

Hmm, interesting maybe mixed tech designs can be done as well as pure IS tech designs?

Absolutely Clanners never waste material, and the Scorpions have a penchant for keeping things that have historical value.

You could also Clan-ify some more WoB designs as well, since the nexus and grand crusader already have been adopted by the Scorpions. (They found them in a data cache with other stuff)

One day, I will actually commit to my idea of a Quad Star, featuring at least one of the White / Blue Flame duo.

I think either of the OG versions, the BLF-21 or the WHF-3B would work well without any changes or even pulling the C3i and clan-ifying the weapons.

It's too bad the Scorps don't have access to the Goliath C. Throw in one of those, a Fire Scorpion and one of those new Rhinos with your other picks and you could have a fun little Scorpion Quad Star indeed.

Looking at the MUL there's the Snow Fox Omni, Tolva, Rhino, 3 flavors of Fire Scorpion, and the Thunder Stallion OG & 2.

Why would I use a Minigun Cycle or even a Minigun Cycle (SRM)?

The MUL has them for the clan, but Alpha Strike shows they do not do damages.

They do damage. Note that the card says 0*, not 0.

They're good scouts. No probe, but you can field enough of them to scout out a mapsheet fairly quickly the conventional way. (Also pretty good at ablative reconnaissance.)

Also, don't forget that despite their tiny size, they're not infantry units, they're full-sized vehicles in every sense. Including in terms of stacking, and blocking the movement of enemy units. Given how easy it is to bring large numbers of these things, you can easily generate the kind of traffic jam that can comment block the movement of important enemy units.

In-universe, cycles like these are a good way to add some fast units to very small or bottom-tier forces such as the garrison of a tiny new colony, a police unit, or the solahma-est of solahma. They're dirt cheap and easy to improvise from civilian construction, perfect for the kind of folks that the Clan normally wouldn't bother providing with significant resources.

A bit self-serving, but here's a good look at Minigun Cycles and other small support vehicles. :)
