So out of curiosity, what's everyone's favourite FWLM (and related) paint job? For me it's the Marik Militia, which is about as iconicly FWLM as it gets. Though I'm also fond of the Covenant Guards.
It used to be the Marik Militia for me as well, and I had upwards of a Battalion before I lost them all in a house fire almost two years ago. But speaking of...the COVIDening turned out to be the perfect time to start Operation: Backlog, where I'm trying to slam out all of my unpainted minis before the Kickstarter ships. And what better way to do so than to do them up in some less common FWL schemes?
For my Andurien Rangers, I decided to do the green highlights in a pinstripe pattern as a throwback to the Defenders of Andurien. Since it's such a generic scheme, I guess I can run them as 3rd FWL Legionnaires as well.
Next up, the Rim Commonality Guards. Not a bad scheme.
9th Regulan Hussars. Decided to do things differently here - figured that the individualistic Regulans might use their own variations of the purple/orange-brown scheme, with higher amounts of purple representing greater loyalty to the Federal government. Also added in the yellow from the 1st Hussars to break the scheme up a bit.
Silver Hawk Irregulars. These were a blast to paint and I think I'm gonna make at least a full company + conventional assets for them.
2nd Sirian Lancers. Decided to use bronze as the metallic color to try to take away from the whole Christmas theme they've got going on. Worked well IMO.
Loyalty Defenders. Never doing this one again, ever. Red trim on canary yellow is an exercise in frustration.
(Also as a side note, I can't think of any non-FWLM units that use purple)
The Bolan Provincial Militias use a hardcore copy of the Protectorate Guard schemes, which must have lead to some wicked confusing battles during the Succession Wars.
