Tank Pack - Design a Wheeled CV
« on: 16 May 2019, 08:00:35 »
So instead of posting new variants, we will take the other way around.
I show you the chassis and you try to put some weapons on this chassis.
When I like the idea or think its possible I will put it together and post/publish this version for a 3D print.

Well you might see that those chassis have only one thing in common with BT vehicles. The name and maybe the scale.

Those are not yet very detailed.
For example - say: Code Striker - a 35t vehicle powered by an ICE with 85kph armed with a turret mounted medium LRM and a Heavy SRM

When you say turret - its also nice to know if you plan it as unmanned - or 1-3 crewed.
Number of soldiers/crew is also nice to know.

I love the look of these; would you release the STLs at some point?

Hope you don't mind a cursory description, because they really write themselves. For the Heavy APC, the base version is 25 tons, ICE engine, no turret, move 6/9, and equipped with CASE.
- The infantry version has 3 MGs (front/left/right) and half a ton of ammo, and 6 tons infantry capacity
- the BA version drops the MGs and has 8 tons capacity, for two squads
- the BAFV version adds a turret with half a ton of armour, an SRM-4 with a ton of ammo, and 4t capacity
- the IFV version adds a turret with half a ton of armour, an LRM-5 with a ton of ammo and an LMG with half a ton of ammo
- the Engineer version has a bulldozer blade, medium bridgelayer, and lift hoist, plus a ton of cargo space
Medic & command versions are also easily prepared on the common chassis.

that's the plan. Currently I'm working with a German BattleTech Group to get the settings, to provide good printable models.

For nonturreted Machine Guns, they might look like turrets, but will be more like the "turret" on a Humvee or a small remote controlled station (not a full armored full featured turret) - so a turreted machine gun might end as long barreled 20-30mm Autocannon (AC in todays terms) and a non turreted machine gun might become Gau-19 styled (need to find a good compromise for print details)

So, did you want a full-up design for a wheeled CV, complete with fluff or just an off-the-cuff estimate?

 It could be either way.
You could say, hey that G6 Hetzer might look great as a Thor,  Daemon Partisan...- and give some suggestions how the "mission" module look like.
Including vehicles that don't have a representation (skulker? Dart)

Or you develope a new one, for example turreted Heavy AC and ATGM(SRM)

Here's a quick design, basically a Scorpion with a wheeled chassis and a fuel cell powerplant.

Code: [Select]
Padfoot Light Tank

Mass: 25 tons
Tech Base: Inner Sphere
Motive Type: Wheeled
Rules Level: Advanced Rules
Era: Succession Wars
Tech Rating/Era Availability: D/X-D-D-A
Production Year: 0
Cost: 460,688 C-Bills
Battle Value: 385

Power Plant: Scopes 105 Fuel Cell Engine
Cruise Speed: 54.0 km/h
Flanking Speed: 86.4 km/h
Armor: Killian Band-9 Standard Armor
Armament:
    1 Armstrong J-11 Autocannon/5
    1 Klicker Machine Gun
Manufacturer: Anderman Manufacturing
    Primary Factory: Anderman
Communications System: PartiCall
Targeting and Tracking System: AnderTrack-1

Overview:
The agricultural planet of Anderman was long thought to be far enough from
the border with either the Combine or the League to require any kind of
indigenous defensive industry.   The planetery leaders kept up that line of
thught until a group of pirates made an unexectedly deep raid into Lyran space.
While the small militia units were able to hold the line, it was a close-run
affair and the pirates still got away with a good portion of the planetary
supplies.   As a result, Baron George Vanderbeck decided that his planet needed
to be better able to defend itself and instead of buying what was on the market
at the time put out a call for local manufacturers to start producing military
hardware for the Andermanni Militia.

The first company to answer the call was Anderman Manufacturing, best known
for local transports and harvest vehicles.   What they came up with was a light
wheeled armored combat vehicle that could be quickly manufactured at a low
cost.   The desighn was quickly chosen to start production, filling out an
expanded Andermanni Militia almost immediately.

Capabilities:
The Padfoot is a wheeled armored combat vehicle with a traditional layout of
a main weapon with a single smaller support weapon.   The core of the vehicle
is its Scopes 105 fuel cell powerplant, which provides an excellent
power-to-weight ratio that enables the Padfoot to reach speed of almost 90 kph
on the battlefield.   This makes the vehicle capable to being rapidly moved
from one hotsport to another to meet situations as they arise.   The powerplant
is connected to a 6-wheeled chassis with each wheel built around its own
independently-steerable electric motor that gives the Padfoot excellent
maneuverability anf a turning radius almost shorter that its own length.

The firepower for the light vehicle is based around the popular and widely
available Armstrong J-11 autocannon, a weapon system well-suited to light
vehicles.   The J-11 has a good mix of range, firepower, and accuracy for a
light weapon and enables the Padfoot to work well as part of a unit.   The
Klicker machinegun is a local design, and uses a smaller round with a high rate
of fire to defend against unarmored infantry.   Both weapons are tied to the
AnderTrack-1 targeting system, a local product that lacks the power or
flexibility of similar systems but is less expensive.

Deployment:
While the Padfoot is most common on the Planet Anderman, local mercenary
units with a need for armored fighting vehicles have begun to express interest
in the little vehicle.   While Anderman Manufacturing is running at full
capacity to meet the local demands, they have also expressed interest in
expanding their market to meet the requests.   How this will play out in
regards to larger companies in the same market such as the notorious Quikscell
Company remaions to be seen.

Variants:
There are no known variants of the Padfoot at this time, but one possible
future variant would be to replace the autocannon with an SRM-6 launcher and an
LRM-5 launcher with a ton of ammunition for each to give the vehicle more
flexibility at the expense of accuracy.

Does a fuel cell engine look different, at least with hydrogen tanks it should have a visible difference.

Wich frame design should I use. Remote turret, two seats?

The fuel tanks should be inside anyway. If you're carrying Russian-style external fuel tanks they'll by more rounded than diesel tanks (being pressure vessels) but that's it.

Did only last half a year but finaly I have restarted
proudly present the Apate/Fraus

for extra "inconvenience" those designs could have been omnis.
the idea is to have a wheeled vehicle that can simulate a couple of other wheeled vehicles and as such make them obsolete.
the difference is that the Fraus uses a bigger FCE, I did consider even XL for some time.... but the costs went sky high.

all vehicles are limited amphibious. (don't know if that is worth it)
- if you want to throw together your own Apate or Fraus:
the Apate would have a module capacity of 25.5t (and the turret can have 20t of equipment)
the Fraus would have a module capacity of 17.5t (and a turret that can have 15t of equipment)

those models are still WiP but you might get the idea:

Code: [Select]
Apate

just a hetzer with a turret.... with less ammo, of course adding a FCE would grant more speed - and adding some tons would give some armor.

I agree that 45 tons is superior in several ways (less crew, Light Vehicle Bay, cheaper in general...).

An AC10?
Myrdron B?
Imperator C?
Federated Autocannon?
Sarlon Maxi?
Defiance Killer?

Don't have a AC10 in my arsenal, yet.
But 45t is a nice spot indeed.

OK - just realized I didn't give you a heads up:
ok this was supposed to become a Packrat - but I really hate the wheel configuration and the frontal armor... so after several heavy modifications...the better one: the Muskrat

what was supposed to replace the Hetzer ended as Padilla - not my problem we both used the same base vehicle the G6 Rhino

or Partisan II

or GaussSniper:
