When using advanced maintenance rules as described on page 197 of the third printing of Campaign Operations, each component has an individual Quality Rating. This almost always results in troublesome parts having a much lower rating than simpler components, as maintenance checks get failed due to the higher target number.

Rather than refurbishing an entire unit or allowing an expensive component to eventually get destroyed, is it possible to replace the part using salvage rules and refurbish the old one independently? If so, what are the requirements, costs, and timeframes necessary?

There have been previous rulings that refer to component-specific refurbishment, though I cannot find information about the actual rules for it: https://bg.battletech.com/forums/strategic-operations/(answered)-maintenance-mothballs-and-tech-experience-teams/msg524095/#msg524095.

You can replace any component you want using the applicable rules for replacing parts.

Mod Note:
I received a DM around this and will leave it open with a Research tag for now.
