An Ontos on a diet.  Switching to a fusion engine makes the chassis much, much lighter and even slightly cheaper (C-Bills), while freeing up enough weight for a bit more armor and even amphibious equipment.

Now I'm wondering if it can be crammed into 50 tons (to fit in a light vehicle bay...). :)

Almost, but you end up 2.5 tons short.  If you're willing to sacrifice 2.5 tons of armor or one of the LRM launchers, it can be done.

Aside from the armor placement, that looks totally workable... :)

The sides at least need two more points each (basically, 26 everywhere except the rear, and if I was using Fractional Accounting, I'd get two more points there too for a few less shots of LRM ammo).

Sure, there's ways to optimize it.  I just copy-pasted the Ontos stats and made it lighter.

Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.
