3070 mechs made 3025 style...
« on: 11 April 2018, 18:17:10 »
Hello all! My players have decided to start a campaign set in the gritty austerity of 3025 - Jan 1st, 3025 to be precise - a time in the Btech setting I most love! Unfortunately... my main mech force is built for the mid to post Jihad years... my command lance is made of a Thunderbolt, a Legacy, a Bushwacker, and a Raptor Omnimech... three of those machines do not exist in 3025... well fudge... 😑
So instead of proxying my minis (something I hate to do!) My group suggested I make 3025 Introtech versions of them? Since interest mech construction is easy and fair, it sounded like a good idea to me!
First up, the Legacy! Now, while I was looking at the Legacy to see about converting it to a low tech version of its high tech badness, I read that the 3067 Legacy is an upgrade of an old, failed Star League design called the Rising Star, that the WoB engineers updated with current tech and renamed the Legacy. Perfect!!! My mech is no 3025 Legacy! It's an ancient, one-of-a-kind, Star League era "Rising Star"... of course, all its advanced SL systems were replaced with SW parts over the centuries! I will add the other Introtech mech designs as I make them. 😊

It should be above the space where you're typing... a little more than half way across the many buttons for formatting and emoticons...

Okay, second mech. The Bushwacker! Not put into production until 3053 due to Power plant issues, there is no low tech version of this chicken-Mech. So here is mine! Trying to keep the loadout as close as possible to the 3053 version but without the benefit of weight saving tech, the mech is a decent, if uninspired design. The multiple weapons systems combined with the need to control weight and heat build up necessitated a smaller than average fusion plant for a 55 ton mech, making this version of the Bushwacker a 4/6 mech instead of the typical 5/8 of the other introtech 55 ton designs like the ubiquitous Shadow Hawk, Griffin, and Wolverine (this also plays nicely into the early prototype Bushwackers failure due to Power plant issues!).
This lower speed isn't entirely out of place in a medium mech, just look to mechs like the Enforcer, Centurion, and Vindicator. The slower speed suits a support role anyway, and the freed tonnage allowed an increase to the standard armor load of the mech to 10 full tons. Due to weight and heat concernes, the second primary weapon, the Large Laser has been downgraded to a back-up Medium Laser, making the AC/10 and twin LRMs the main mid to long range punch.
Overall, I think it fits the design intent of the original Bushwacker quite well and still makes a useful battlemech in the age of scrapmechs! 😁
(Also trying different format for posting mech stats... hope this works...)

It does indeed!  You can "modify" your previous post to insert the tags if you like... Glad I could help!

Last mech for my command lance is my 3025 Raptor.
Now this mech has no convenient "lost prototype" backstory I can use to explain it's presence in 3025... so who cares! I'll call it "a custom redesign of a salvaged Locust." Sounds plausible... you be quiet back there!!!
Anywho, this redesign was super simple. Just remove weapons until what's left over fits the 3025 equipment weight limitations! In this case, the Raptor lost some armor protection, which is why I elected not to reduce the speed for extra tonnage! The LRMs were reduced from 3 racks making a 15 missile threat, to 1 rack, making a 5 missile inconvenience... this version of the Raptor is more of a high speed direct fire harraser than the original mechs support role.
Obviously NOT an Omni anymore! 😉

Your Bushwacker reminds me of an Enforcer for some reason. But I like the different way you go by keeping the LRMs in there.

And your Raptor might benefit from an SRM rack instead of the LRM. *shrug* Still a neat design and your backstory makes perfect sense.
Be the Loremaster:

Battletech transport rules take a very feline approach to moving troops in a combat zone: If they fits, they ships.

You bought the box set and are ready to expand your BT experience. Now what? (Thanks Sartis!)

Thanks! 😁 it's fun to figure out how to "dumb down" an advanced design while still keeping it's identity.
As for the Raptors LRMs, I decided to keep them because 1: flavor, trying to stay true to the source design, and 2: SRMs I felt would make it a weird Wasp/Locust love child mech. Also in 3025 Light mechs with LRMs are rare, so it's more special! 😊

When I dumped down the Bushwacker I kept the LL but downgraded to an AC/5. IMHO that better fits the skirmisher role of the original. Heat gets a bit tight, thought... ;)
