Star League Infantry

Are there existing stats for Star League, specifically Royal, infantry units?

AToW Companion has stats for SLDF infantry armor. At the TW scale it boils down to basic DIV 1 stuff. Weapons-wise, we know they liked the Mauser 960, but there's absolutely no indication that the weapon was universal, so anything appropriate to the era works.

There's no info indicating that Royal infantry platoons got different guns from regular ones. If you absolutely must show a difference, you could give the Royal force a higher proportion of Mauser-using platoons.

Thanks. I have to say that is a tad disappointing.

Their strength is in the sheer size of their divisions and brigades, and the fact that in mechanized infantry divisions, the platoons have vehicle support at almost every level. The squad-level APCs are too annoying to actually game with, but you can represent a proper SLDF infantry company by including a lance of vees with them, a well-armed large APC for each platoon, and a compatible combat tank as the fourth unit in the lance. Seven combat units makes for a solid force, especially if we're talking about Maxims backed up by a Zephyr, or Turhans backed up by a Demon. And of course, there's the mech units integral to these divisions as well...

They might have a larger - and more competent - assignment of specialist support branches, like field engineers and artillery, and better mechanized support for them.

Very true. This is the nation with a Department of Mega-Engineering. Their combat engineers may not be on that level, but seeing them at work is likely quite a sight to behold...

I get the sneaking suspicion that the real truth behind the Star League's tremendous army was that their engineer corps was actually sculping mechs out of cliffsides just to have a few extra regiments on their sides.  Talk about preparing the battlefield!

Bit of a segway question but this seems like a good thread for it. Is there any source that provides a breakdown for company level SLDF infantry? IE, is there any organic armor support and how much? Details like that. Additionally, are SLDF mechanized infantry regiments mechanized in the sense that they're foot infantry using APCs or that they roll around in half tracks and never dismount?

FM: SLDF has what you seek.

SLDF Mechanized Infantry Divisions are usually platoons plus separate APCs. Foot Divisions are described as needing to scrounge up local sources for transportation, I'd use mechinf(as the rules describe them) for those.
