This was great.  Seriously great.  It went from a pleasant surprise with the Flea, to giddiness with the Super Wasp and Griffin, to all out hysteria with the Marauder.  Granted the arms are sitting a bit higher on the Marauder than I wanted, but it still looks pretty good with sloped armor panels and jutting cockpit.  I hope a mini comes out soon with an option for an autocannon.

Why I ask is this. The record sheet for the MAD-4X has 16 slots for Prototype Endo Steel. And according to TM 3025 : Succession Wars the UAC/5 as mounted on the Sentinal went out of production in 3005.
When I see the SF-1X Starfire is equipped with UAC/5 ( Prototype ), I have to ask ; is this a new weapon or the resumption of production of an older weapon ?

Starterbook: Sword and Dragon introduced Prototype equipment around 3039.  These are steps toward the Successor States recovering Star League from the Helm Core.
the Prototype UAC/5 jams more often than the star league UAc/5.  Prototype Endo Steel takes more critical space than Star League endo steel, etc.

Thanks nckestrel.
I hope all these primitive and prototype weapons & equipment are collected and bound up in Interstellar Operations.

The UAC/5 and Endo-Steel existed in the Star League, so I don't think there'd necessarily need to be prototype versions.

...Unless of course the UACs we have now turn out to be the prototypes, in which case I would be very happy.
Yes but it became LosTech, so they had to rediscover the tech which means they'd have to make prototypes again.
Do we have rules for any of the prototypes of the advanced Star League tech that went extinct?

On a side note, the fluff seems to indicate the freezers on the Super Griffin are not regular DHS, but the old caustic coolant type that only takes up 1 critical (Marauder has them too), but the record sheet lists regular DHS, what gives?
===
XTRO:Sucession Wars 1 has a fighter, no large craft.
Warships were still extinct at that point anyways.  If we want prototype warships i'd think they would be in an XTRO:Clan Invasion.

While the bulk of the items in this one were late Third Succession War stuff, the title mentions Succession Wars so there is still room for First Succession Wars stuff when they still had some ability to make WarShip

The Original Super Wasp didn't use Endo (It' hadn't been invented yet) but rather a custom skeleton that weighted half as much, my guess is that TPTB didn't want to go either of those routes so they came up with something different
They could have used a composite structure

WarShips were not extinct during the Succession Wars. There were at least 400-odd tooling around in Clan space, and there are known WarShips that are post-Exodus designs that were apparently withdrawn/lost/other prior to the Clan Invasion.

Therefore these ships were only active during the...Succession Wars. 8)

Those are the prototype freezers from Historical 3039 and Sword & Dragon.  They're like normal DHS but they can be mixed with standard HS, and cannot be engine-mounted.

I love this XTRO. My only complaints are that the Zeus is more boring than I'd expect a prototype Zeus to be, especially after the ZEU-X series.

Also I'm disappointed how they didn't have some janky fission-powered 'mech as a desperate attempt at keeping 'mechs in service. There was a tank with such a refit at least, but something crazy like an Awesome with a fission engine would be hilarious.

It works, you end up with a 2/3 movement and 25 SHS (or 3/5 and 14 DHS) and keep the standard 3 PPCs and a small laser.  For epic giggles you can replace the PPCs and heatsinks with autocannon and LRMs; it turns real weirdly cool.

Also, "janky?"  You're the second person I know who uses that word.

Maybe they'll get done anyway, just for those that can't stand looking at them? :)

They shall forever be under a Trial of Annihilation by me, no matter how good they end up becoming, or
how later models might not look at all like the older ones. The mechs shall be destroyed, the factories that
make them turned to dust, the pilots, technicians, and workers who have contacted them killed. All traces

Tales of the Black Widow Company was first, not H:Wo3039.  ::)

Those re double-strength heat sinks that only take 1 critical slot.  Prototype Double Heat Sinks (Freezers) are in H:Wo3039 and SB:Sword and Dragon. The Star League versions (DHS-P) are found in H: Reunification War. Since they're identical to Freezers that'd be the latest mention of them.

No, the one in this book is the FLE-14.  Easy typo to make, however.

BTW, the named XTROs that we are missing are down to four: Gunslingers, Deep Periphery, Primitives 4, and Primitives 5.
We can also assume that there will be a Succession Wars 2, but I have seen no mention about how many XTRO:SW are planned.

So am I the only one who thinks the downsides of using proto-improved jumpjets are worth it to get an improved jumpjet that weighs half as much and takes half the space?

'Cause I could totally work with that.

Heh. Like who we're told here that ComStar lied and Blazer-wielding Zeus's actually entered line service, though they were largely overlooked.
I know its in vogue to go that route, but it smacks of the change between the tech levels seen in the Blood of Kerensky novels and later source books with regards the Clan Invasion if we start seeing even Succession Wars era experimental tech on levels higher production volumes unlike the one-off Super Wasp/Griffins. Perhaps for certain 'Mechs easier to opt for the Flea style desperation revival of mothballs designs.
A few things:

 - the Zeus was a common chassis, still in production, built the finest mech factory in the Inner Sphere outside of Terra.
 - the Blazer Rifle was tech so bad it was rejected from the Succession Wars.  It was chosen because of the well-known desire for the Zeus to mount a larger weapon, which Defiance had wanted since the Zeus had debuted (as stated in TR 3025), and would eventually manage in 3025 or so with the -6T.
 - The changes to the Zeus actually made it simpler to build and maintain, outside of the myomer flaws (since it tossed the high-tech large laser and the troublesome LRM-15).

There is no retcon here - the -6Y was a love letter to the TR 3025 fluff.
Indeed, there is no retcon here. No tech creep.
The Blazer is, and has always been, 3025 tech. This one weapon actually fits right in, it's not anything advanced, and (for a change) it's not an overpowered boomstick, what with the insane heat in its SHS era and comparatively poor damage output.

Only thing I can think of that might be experimental for the Clans would be the Enhanced ER PPC. Or more variants that were built during Klondike. When they went full-ClanTech, they didn't do much more R&D... Well, perhaps maybe a few early Scientist ideas that never made it to production (at least until the Society...).
Techmanual's 'Shape of Things to Come' lists a few early EARLY Clan designs that have never seen the light of day (Fox, Minsk, Vision Quest.) Strat Ops adds a few fighters to the list too (Ogotai, Qasar)

It'd be nice to see them in a XTRO at some point, although I have no idea where they'd fit them. (XTRO Primitives: Clan?)

Sort of how I find the Klondike Prototype Streak 4 and Streak 6 something I could work with? Sure they still fire if you miss, sure
if you roll poorly, not all the missiles hit...but that -1 bonus to hit is actually WORTH it.

I would gladly risk JJ that are a little hotter, and can blow up if hit if I can get, say, a 4/6/6 Sunder that only loses 12 tons of Pod Space verse 24 tons...
