[Discussion/proposal] Land-Air 'Mechs in Alpha Strike

Alpha Strike's simplier ruleset, larger battles, and greater emphasis on recon and scenario focused fights pretty much is the ideal place to see the use of Land Air 'Mechs.. they can be used wfor the jobs they were intended to do, without having to deal with as many special rules exceptions. unfortunately, aside from three sample cards provided to us by The Power's That Be, we do not know when we will receive rules and stats for these units, or what those rules may be. however we can make some educated guesses, based on the official LAM rules for battletech, and how other elements have been translated ot Alpha Strike. until we receive some official rules (and more MUL cards for them), these are the rules i'd suggest:

A LAM has three modes, 'mech, airmech, and fighter. the AS card will list it's 'mech movement in the normal movement entry, the airmech and fighter movement will be listed in the special abilities section of the card. it takes 1 full turn to convert between modes, during which the unit is restricted to 1/2 it's normal movement rate, and receives a To-Hit modifier according to its adjusted movement that turn. it is not required to move during conversion, except in the case of converting from fighter mode to either other mode.

in 'Mech and Fighter mode the LAM follows all movement rules appropriate for that form. in Airmech mode the LAM follows all rules for Wing-in-ground-effect movement. To-hit mods for movement in airmech mode are treated as WIGE movement and receive the appropriate bonuses and penalties. the LAM always is treated as a 'mech for damage resolution, however Motive system damage in airmech mod is treated as WIGE for determining motive effect.

LAM's that possess the BOMB special may carry bomb special munitions without loss of movement, and may use any special bomb munitions in Fighter and Airmech mode. in 'mech mode only Rocket and TAG munitions may be employed, although any may be carried.


comments/suggestions?

one thing that comes to mind is to remove the WIGE to hit penalty from LAm's in airmech.. that extra +1 would make them really hard to hit when by movement alone they are generating +4 to +5, and the extra chance of movement loss on a crit may not really help offset that much.

and i have yet to figure out a valid way to replicate the loss of transformation ability rule in regular Btech..
