I just hope that nobody here has had their personal ID compromised. If people's private data hasn't been compromised, I could live without the prior posts (mostly).

As I suggested on the other forums I frequented, don't use the same password for your bank as you do for your hobbies, and you should be okay.

I changed my password. I was using the same one for everything I have around the universe. So I'm switching passwords everywhere now.

Why? How would people know who I was? Or..are you refering to people who have
had a few warnings/bans coming back with a "clean slate", so to speak?

"Phad" is an old name a friend suggested for me back in High School when Mechwarrior3 came out.

While it's served me well, I think I've moved on.  Especially past the self awarded 'Vickers' Bloodname.

As I've gotten used to being called Sid elsewhere, I figure I'll try taking the opportunity to retire 'Phad'

Is having my password be "password" okay?

I'll switch it up to "username". They'll never get that one.

Well, it's either that, or let the spammers walk all over the place.  As mentioned elsewhere, it goes away after 10 posts.  Though fair warning, don't use that as an excuse to spam up the boards, as I think they will give you a warning for it at the least.

Any speculation on why the forum was attacked? Was it just someone randomly looking for vulnerable software so they could hack account passwords or is there a sign it was directed at the boards for some reason? Either way, I'm glad I use unique randomly generated passwords everywhere I go.

My guess is someone somewhat lonely, repressed, and thought more highly of themselves than they should have made a run at the Fort Knox of 80's gameboard sites...broke the bank and the odds; but can't tell anyone for fear that they find themselves on the opposing side of a blanket party and thousands of annoyed gamers.

Cheers mate, hope it was worth it.   8)

Well I'm bummed because I hadn't saved some of the stuff in my sig line, and I haven't found any caches that have it. Other than that I guess I'm okay with the forums being back. Not having someone I could ask a question pertaining to the game was painful

Deathshadow has archived a portion of the old forums. You might be able to dig through there to find your sig.

Very gleeful to have the forums back up. Sort of coincided with my switchover to the new computer as well. I just can't wait to swap out skins for something a bit closer to what I'm accustomed to. Although having the General Discussion board lower is playing hell with my muscle memory...

I went through and changed most of my passwords just to play it safe, first one was my PayPal. Though I tend to consider security on the interwebs to be a bit like a car alarm; it keeps the honest people honest. If someone really wanted to get into my accounts I've no doubt they could pull it off.
