since we know have BA artillery, how could you go about reworking it for proto's especially for AU settings where the IS has proto's of their own?

There any reason why Mech Mortars or indirect LRMs can't fulfill that purpose? Or were you thinking something like a mini-Thumper?

The minithumper-- like what BA has.  Granted teh clans might not use it, but OTH, the more assimilated clans probably understand the utility of artillery.

Ahmm....as of the latest errata, Protomechs can carry Arrow IV arty. I'm sure it's limited to Superheavies practically, but there you are.
