what mechs would the SAS field?
« on: 13 December 2018, 22:57:50 »
So what types of mechs would a SAS unit field.  I have a small base.  Inf platoon, I would think they would have four to eight tanks and about the same number of Mechs.  I want to keep it grounded and not give a lot of god weapons.  any help with this task would be great.

The Regulator wasn't introduced until 3057, about 300 years too late.

I would add the Spider, Ostscout, Phoenix Hawk and maybe even the Mongoose and Talon to the list of mechs they might use.

Vehicles might be something like the Nightshade and Ripper VTOL's, Rotunda and Packrat wheeled vee's, Beagle and Gabriel hovercraft, and maybe the Galleon tracked tank. Maybe something like the Manticore heavy tank to provide some more firepower.

Don't know about setting SAS, but historical SAS (at least in WW2 as lrdg) were using light and daring equipment. So lights and light mediums more than heavy hitters. LAM, Phoenix Hawks, spiders and the like look like it, yup.

Agree with Elmoth, even in the modern-era SAS use Landrovers (British jeeps) derived patrol vehicles not Challenger 2 tanks.

Anything they want to be honest. If they are the SLDF SpecOps - they'd have their pick of whatever was required for the mission at hand.

I would also expect it to be tricked out so . . .

The Exterminator with Chameleon or whatever stealth tech that blanked it from sensors.  With a 6/9/6 movement profile its really a 'fat' medium.

While I do not think we have a SL stealth tech Specter the fluff sort of screams for it, and you could allocate the crits & load the same way the Stealth Armor Specter winds up.

I would agree with LAMs, absolutely the Nighthawk and maybe even give them 'prototypes' using some of the Invasion era BA.  Was there a SL prototypes PDF?  I would say you could pull some of the crazier/expensive stuff from there and give it to your SpecOps.

Yeah, they made a wheeled Gauss Rifle armed tank . . . not like a hovertank with one would be a stretch.

One other thing to consider might be to have them treat their equipment like the Fidelis in later eras- special troops get some customization after all.

Yeah like the special SLDF tech that's on the Spectre and Chameleon Mechs on Mechs you wouldn't expect it (the Gunslingers XTRO jumps out as examples)
