Not sure bola pod is the most appropriate comparison here. But i'd imagine bola-like projectile could be useful for clearing out drones, especially since suicide drone swarms are becoming a reality.

I just meant in terms of a missile warhead that deploys a physical weapon.

That title initially read as "bomb loaded with sword carrying ninja" to me.  That's about as bola-pod as it gets.   ;D

*shrug* when i first learned of that, i was like sure why not, it is basically fragmentation warhead with different kind of fragments. Sorta. In simplified way. So why not bolas as well?

Lasers have a lot of issues that projectile weapons are not subject to. They're good at stuff projectiles aren't perhaps, but not a solution everywhere.

Allegedly (I do not rate history channel documentaries very highly anymore) the Indians used rockets attached to sword blades against the British. They were depicted as using the blade to stick in the ground and support the rocket. When they rocket burned out, the whole rig would cartwheel down spinning to the ground.
Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries

These, in the day when heaven was falling,      Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
The hour when earth's foundations fled,         They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
Followed their mercenary calling,               What God abandoned, these defended,
And took their wages, and are dead.             And saved the sum of things for pay.

Nah I like the idea.

Battletech is missing a lot of "kinetic" attacks.

Bola might sound silly, but the idea of taking down an Imperial Walker by its legs has some precedent.

Bolas.... Nets?  How do we get this thread reallocated to fan-designed rules?

They're ninja, trim to fit, they'll grow back.

They're also unreasonably flexible, so pre-chopping may not be necessary.
