Clan ProtoMech Art: Finishing the Revamp
« on: 16 November 2018, 02:41:22 »
As some of you may already know, last summer someone commissioned Plog to do an art revamp on a number of ProtoMech designs, under the auspice of these being the "production models" (relatedly, if anyone knows who it was that commissioned those, I'd love to give them credit). While those commissions covered about half the extant models, the other half were never done, so I recently decided to take it upon myself to commission those, as much for the community's sake as for my own. I just received the finished results of the first two, so I wanted to share them here. Also, for those who hadn't already seen them, links to the other revamps will be at the bottom of this post.

Centaur

Orc

Previous Revamps:
Cecerops
Delphyne
Erinyes
Gorgon
Minotaur
Minotaur P2
Roc
Siren

Ahhhhhhhhh! So it was you! These are AMAZING!!  And yeah these re-workings really did help the Proto's come to life as an actual machine not an escapee from an Anime.

And it was always a thing with me and Proto's, they were designed to use the minimum number of resources available, yet all those beautifully curved and shaped hulls would require specialist tools and equipment to make.  And as units that were built to not consume resources, this kind of construction requirement, needing new plant etc would consume more resources.  So whomever commissioned the Production Proto's clearly thought along the same kind of line and went for a more brutalist approach.  They still have hints of their mythioloigal names but its not so pronounced and theres a LOT more detail in there which Proto's really did need and Plog made them come to life.

And I love your ones too! I can't wait to see the rest :D

I have to say I have not been a fan of the ProtoMechs mostly because of looks.  Not that I thought they didn't look cool, but that they felt very out of place in the BTU.  These revamps, on the other hand, make me want to go revisit them. 8)  Thank you to all who had these commissioned!

You are doing the Lord's work. I didn't even believe it when I saw proto-mechs in an actual Battletech TRO. Honestly, I thought that it had to be some sort of mistake, like a fan TRO or something, but nope, they were real.

These look really good though.

And at second glance, I absolutely love the level of detail he put into the Centaur. Just look at the missile doors. Where the missile would be exposed, the door is rounded down, where it wouldn't be, there is just a flat break. This guy must have about a half-hundred pictures of missile launchers to be able to understand and integrate that into his art.

Just wanted to let everyone know I've got the next two on Plog's docket. Have fun guessing which two they'll be.

Yeah, I think I can make that happen. Would you rather it be the Chrysaor or the Hydra that gets the treatment?

I usually LOATHE the various Clan AD&D-tech Protomechs, but if the powers-that-be had gone with THIS style instead of that ridiculous fantasy-punk style in their appearance I might have actually given them more attention.

Just got a couple of verrry preliminary sketches from Plog. Not gonna post them because they have my IRL name written into them in a way that would be a pain in the ass to crop out, but unsurprisingly they look very good even in these early stages.

Hooooly cow! These are amazing! These redone Proto's need to be made canon, I know you didn't commission the 1st Generation ones but yeah..they need to be canon as they are a vast improvement over the originals. The 2nd  Generation PRoto's art was good but this..this is better.

Wonderful. Such a great art. I like this more Mech-like design.

Thank for the Star Adder Chrysaor. Great details (I love that it does belong to the 73rd Cavaliers and displaying of the unit`s insignia  )

I've been enjoying these redesigns!  Plog knocks it out of the park every time!  I just realized that one of the Procyon's small lasers is actually torso-mounted!

My favorite, though, is the Roc.  Still beastly yet it looks very buildable.

I'd love a Roc that didn't look like it was trying for an Americana award, but otherwise excellent.
