It also has some most excellent configs that punch way above their tonnage...  ;)

It is one of several that should never have existed.

oh yeah, that I can agree on.  the 3055 omnis need to be resculpted and brought in line with the 3050 mechs they somewhat share aesthetics with.

The Phantom is a 40 ton, 9/14 clan omni that is mostly used by the Wolves.  Config's C and H are probably the best, combining hordes of light energy weapons (ER/Heavy smalls) with a single ER Medium and a Targeting computer.

It's not bad, but many configs go in too many directions to be useful.

I'm a die-hard fan of the original TRO 3055 and wary of overt fanboyism of the redrawn art. After all, the units' visual design was created in the original TRO and I think design tends to be underrated vs overall aesthetics.

Having said that, I think the Phantom is the most singularly improved unit of TRO 3055 Upgrade - so yes, a recast inspired by that one would rule the world.

3055 rocks! Did so when I was a n00b, does so now.

I remember someone saying, a few forum incarnations ago, "if that 'Mech looked any more like the top half of a milk carton on legs, you'd expect to see "Have you seen this Star Captain?" painted on the side" ... When you have the graceful menace of the Timber Wolf or Summoner, or the alien menace of the Mad Dog or Hellbringer, the cowl-mechs just look ... odd.

Hey, new quirk: "Turtle. Can pull in arms & legs and hide under armoured shell. Cannot be hit behind L1 cover, and does not suffer through-armour criticals while turtled. Cannot fire weapons until it stands up."

The Adder/Puma seems to have a similar idea, call those mechs walking news stands.

As far as the Puma goes, I actually thought it was pretty cool... Especially when you realize a Cougar is just a Puma without a hat. And as far as it goes, there was a period of time where the 'Mechs were so ugly I was ashamed to openly admit I played Battletech.
