Due to the very different way MM and HMP handle maps: No, this will most likely never happen.

Great maps!  If I wanted to try to recreate them for MM - what can I use to open them to look at as I use the MM map editor?  I don't have HMM, so that's out.

You would have to create them from the ground up. MM can't read the HMMap files since they handle their data extremely different.
But should you do it anyway please post them here :))

I noticed, the scenario maps had numbers as their name instead of their names. That was caused by the fact that I originally created them for a campaign and they were numbered to fit the different scenarios. I changed that now, so that the current archives contain correctly named files.
That was especially confusing with Grasland and Grasland 2 since Grasland had a numeric name and Grasland 2 was named Grasland...  [metalhealth] fixed that

Map Set 30 (Volcano)

After creating this map set I noticed that it would be impossible, to do it MM without looking totally stupid. So I emailed Rick Raisley about it and asked him, if we could use the background image for MM - and he said yes. As a result, the next MM release will have a volcano theme included and this map set. Nevertheless I decided not to include the MM files for the maps here, because they wouldn't work on the current releases and will be included in the next release anyway.

Is there someone you can send these files to and get them printed out on nice large lamented vinyl map sheets?

You would have to open the files in HMMap and create a jpg file from there. Then you can send them to any copy shop to get them printed.

If you save the maps as jpg files, I can't see a reason why they shouldn't. My local copy shops can do it.

I saw that someone prints these out on A4 sized paper and tapes them together.  Does anyone know the actual cost of printing out a full-size map at Kinko's or somewhere equivalent?

found this site a while back.. http://www.gamer-printshop.com cost for laminating 18 x 24 inches costs $4.50 per sheet but some of the links are down.. so can't find a cost for heavy metal maps.. but here is how maps need to be sent Use Standard CBT size, encoded as a JPG in default 171 dpi resolution. Print up to
four map design into a single large format color printed map. Just furnish us with
the JPG produced by the program.

they do price quotes as well..
