Located near Alexandria, VA and looking for some regularly scheduled Battletech games on a Friday Night?

Come on down and join fellow battletech gamers for “Battletech Friday Night Fights at Your Hobby Place in Alexandria, Va.(700 N Washington St, Alexandria, VA )

We game every Friday that there isn't a M:tG release day event. And on MtG release event days we've been lucky enough that staff can often setup a small table in the back for some classic and alpha strike using Hex maps. YHP has two 4’x6’ tables reserved for BTFNF and a great selection of terrain that works awesome for Alpha Strike. Or … bring your own hex maps and get in on some hex map games of classic or alpha strike.

Where: YHP in Alexandria,VA
When: 5pm-11pm
What: Battletech Friday Night Fights! (Open Battletech Gaming)
Typical gaming includes:
Alpha Strike (125 / 250 /500PV)(Hexed and hexless, MAR)
Classic Battletech 5000-8000 BV2

Parking:
Free Parking at the “Retail Parking” garage @ 652 Wythe St Alexandria, VA. The garage is diagonal across the street from the YHP on Wythe St. (Opposite the Italian Place on Wythe St) also free street parking is available. Note: There are two parking garages on Wythe St. You want the "Retail Garage". DON'T Park in the 'Visitors/Office Parking Garage' they close at 9pm and charge for parking.

Mass Transit/Metro:
YHP is about 1/2 mile from the Braddock Road metro, about a 10-15 minute walk on Wythe St.

For the Classic games, is there an era restriction?

We don’t have any “fixed era” that we play in for any games I’ve played in. There are folks that play everything from Age of War units to ilClan and everything in between. (And folks who ignore era in general and go for cool units on the table.) I’d definitely recommend discussing era and optional rules with your opponent. But local players are pretty flexible.

Thanks to Jester for running another fantastic Grinder event at Huzzah Hobbies today! :)

I’ll totally concur, it was a great event! After weathering One ejected Urbie (after getting the RAC/5 shot out), an ammo explosion from a QuickDraw that generated an impromptu fireworks display for the nearby Rook and Griffin, and a Men Shen piloted by Plankton from the Sponge Bob series that got cored out from behind by a Victor at the same moment that the ammo cooked off resulting in Omnimech parts scattered over the map. Thanks Jester for hosting us all for a fun Classic grinder event. As a primarily Alpha Strike player, it was indeed a total blast (and lots of fun!)

Glad everyone had a good time and I was happy to have run it with the help of Daryk as co-GM.

We had about 14 people show up, some of whom were brand new to the game.

Some highlights that I recall were:

A Hollander causing an ammo explosion in a Commando and gutting a Hussar with its gauss rifle.

The Quickdraw suffering an ammo explosion.

The Men Shen getting tag teamed by a Salamander and Victor

A Wolverine failing to land its DFA and the resulting fall damage punching through it rear RT and detonating its SRM ammo.

A Griffin pushing an Archer off a level 4 building.

Trebuchet overheating and cooking off some ammo

A Catapult taking a TAC to one of its legs and having it blown clean off.

We ended the grinder around 7:30 PM and people got to walk home with a pair of faction dice, a cool mini and some store credit.

I am already talking to my painters to get the replacement mechs needed for the next grinder giveaway event which I will try to run in late March or early April.  I will keep people posted as that develops.

Heh... I would characterize the Trebuchet pilot as literally having clutched the triggers until the 'mech blew up... :D

I'm going to run a narrative event on Saturday October 12th at Huzzah Hobbies.

People will be able to bring their own lists.  Attackers get 11k BV, defenders get 10k BV each.  No era restrictions.  No artillery, aerospace, VTOLs or conventional infantry will be permitted.

Defenders will also have a limit of no more than 6 units per person.  Attackers have some other limitations that I cannot go into detail now; contact me if you want to be an attacker and I will provide you with the extra info.

Scenario is defenders are trying to buy some time to allow some drops ships to lift off.  Attackers are trying to capture them.  Battle is taking place in an area with active volcanos.  You have been warned.

This is meant to be a fun and silly game, so don't think too hard about which units you want to use.

Just wanted to give a reminder that I'll be running a scenario on Saturday October 12 at Huzzah Hobbies.  You can bring your own list of either 10k BV if you're a defender or 11k BV if you're an attacker.  No era limit, but no VTOLs, aerospace, artillery or conventional infantry.  Thunder LRMs not permitted, but AC precision and AP ammo are as well as tandem charge SRMs.

Defenders also cannot have more than 6 units in your list.  Attackers have different limitations, but with the intention to keep this an interesting scenario I cannot go into details of those limitations unless you wish to be an attacker.  Send me a PM if you wish to be an attacker and I'll tell you the details.

Scenario is drop ships are trying to take off and the attackers are trying to capture them.

I'd be all over this if I wasn't kicking off a campaign the following day. My GM ego doesn't have the BV to let me skip out on my last day of prep, but to those about to die: I salute you.

I will be running a narrative Alpha Strike game this coming Saturday, December 14th at Huzzah Hobbies.  Start time is 1 PM.  It's to playtest a scenario i have in mind for the Richmond Open next year.  All materials provided, no experience necessary.

Alrighty.  I have three days in mind to run my next grinder event.  The days in question are March 29th, April 5th and April 12th.  Event will start at noon on whichever day is chosen and will go until about 8 PM.  The venue it will be held at is Huzzah Hobbies in Ashburn, VA.

Please let me know which day(s) of the three would work best for you and I will try to schedule it for whichever is convenient for the most people.  Looking forward to see you all all there.

Conversely I have a fairly major work event in April, I am pretty sure in the first 2 weeks. The 12th or the 29th of March is probably best but all of them are long shots.
