Not only do I enjoy the occasional BT scenario without 'Mechs I have played infantry-only games on tabletop with regiments of infantry and artillery support. On a tactical level my group also uses a modified version of BattleTroops for battalion and smaller levels.

I just played a mech lance versus dug in infantry company supported by armor- including a pair of heavy Demons, hull down behind a pretty heavy mine field.
and arty support...

It was fun- ended up with a lot of mobility kills. Tanks missing treads or with junked engines, jammed turrets, etc but still able to fire.
That's potentially very deadly (one of the mechs, a Mongoose II charged forward, thinking the heavily damaged Demon and it's supporting infantry would be no sweat. My tank brassed the mech up with its next to last gauss slug and ripped in with the remaining laser. Then the squad's worth of motorized infantry hooked in with their RPGs and managed to core in for a critical hit. Sadly we didn't knock her out!)

Over the last year I've played several games where one side had no mechs for one reason or anther.
Most of them can be found in the After action report section of the boards.
And they where very entertaining.

But I've never played a game where no mechs made it to the table.

The main issue with an all Tank force is this. A thousand times this.

It was fun- ended up with a lot of mobility kills. Tanks missing treads or with junked engines, jammed turrets, etc but still able to fire.

I have done a few non-mech battles, they often become very bloody, very quicky.

Combined arms also gets interesting.

I've done games like this, It's really neat seeing how those units can become the star's of the show fast, Lots  I mean LOTS of tactical options here,  I really can't say what I would use as I feel there is no set in stone way to play or build a force but I have to say You will feel like a real commander while playing, and its even fun against all mech players
