Thermos Binary Laser Tank
« on: 07 November 2024, 07:57:20 »
A bit of an oddball prototype Tank, but it worked. Hoever the rarity and the lack of Binary Laser cannon production lines at the time of it's creation did slow down deployment as it the Thermos Prototype Tank despite working well, lacked a logistics chain for it's Binary laser cannon meaning it's main gun had to made by hand from large laser components. In spite of this the tank did see limited use against the clans in close quarters fighting quite effectively in concert with the simpler and more primitive demolisher tank of 80 tons. It would not enter mass production until after the blakist era in 3081. Which it started to appear in smaller mercenary outfits that couldn't afford heavy PPCs.

That looks workable, but the price looks suspiciously round... ;)

Definitely can bash holes into an enemy, like a surlier Po without an autoloader that rips your hand off.  I'd honestly be inclined to spring for a missile rack or two to diversify its firepower, maybe throw itself some smoke.  Could put a vehicle flamer on there as well, maybe carry some coolant for buddy mechs...

Thanks for the feedback so far. I designed the Thermos to be a team player tank anyway. I may make a variant of it with the suggestions from Der Kommisar.

UPDATE: Here's the variant in question.

With ALL the weapons in the turret, I have to wonder what the fourth crewman is doing... ;D

Personally, is probably put one MG on a front and rear fixed facing respectively, but it must be said that being able to bring enough firepower to delete an infantry company to bear on a single target has its appeal...

I am a huge fan of little weapons on all facings.  Crit padding the sides of a tank that has real armor, like the Thermos does, is really important to soak up those TACs on 8s vees get in the sides--otherwise you can lose your engine and thus your firepower to a cheeky 8 hit location.  The main 4/6 Variant isnt festooned with weapons, so its not a thing to worry about, but if you have all those little guns on the 3/5 version the side guns are SUPER helpful, more then a 3rd and 4th turret weapon for sure.

Indeed.  Just a single Machine Gun can provide double Crit padding.  One for the Weapon, and one for the Stabilizer.  If you can devote the mass to do so, it can make the difference.
