RFP: System Defense Corvette, "Pebbles" Setting

Historical context (ported over from the prior RFP thread): It is an alternate 3125, and the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere have begun a naval construction program following revelations of the existence of a "Secret Fleet" of WarShips in the hands of the Republic, bringing an end to the Northwind Treaty regulating naval construction.

Each great house has an existing fleet of between six and thirteen capital ships (both their own designs as well as Jihad era war prizes) and a large fleet of sub-compact "revenue cutters". The Republic has a disclosed fleet of twelve ships, their own revenue cutters, and an undisclosed fleet of unknown size. Each Great House has already locked in one or more corvette designs for construction, while the Republic, in response to the breakdown of the treaty, already has an entire fleet of new capital ships planned, from corvettes to heavy cruisers and carriers.

The Challenge: For this one you get to represent either one of the great houses of Steiner, Davion, Kurita, or Liao, or alternately the Jade Falcons, Hell's Horses (who control most of the old Wolf Occupation Zone), the Rasalhague Dominion, the Raven Alliance, or the Arc Royal Khanate (which are what remains of the Wolves, and are vassals of the Lyran Commonwealth).

This time, in response to rumors that the Republic is building a jump capable version of their Castrum pocket warship, your superiors have called upon you to submit a design for a relatively cheap system defense corvette to serve as a middle ground between large pocket warships and the primary fleet.

Parameters:

*Must be designed as a modern capital warship. The ability to jump is considered essential and retrotech hulls don't provide enough cost savings to be a viable alternative.

*Must mass less than 300,000 tons.

*Requires only minimal endurance away from a safe harbor. While at its duty station it will rely on local supply. In transit to its duty station it will be supported by tenders.

*Must represent a sufficient threat to larger ships so as to properly deter aggression. This doesn't mean it has to overmatch or consistently defeat larger vessels, but it must be able to stand up to larger ships long enough to inflict significant damage. (note, essentially every large spacecraft in this setting carries significant anti-missile defenses, so no, you can't just nuke the bastards)

*Technology is limited to IS for Inner Sphere factions and Clan for clan factions.

*Though like with the prior RFP, cost isn't as big of an issue in this setting as it is in canon, your superiors will consider it worthwhile to cut costs wherever you can.

Hilariously, dropping the Porter class to 240,000 tons, removing the Mobile HPG and cutting the fuel and cargo a bit does the trick and brings the price down to 12.8B C-Bills (from the Porter's 15.6B). :)

Dropping the docking collars would take it down to 8B... ;)

House Steiner's Harrier System Defense Corvette is by nature and design an
extremely limited platform. With a standard operating endurance of a month and
a half, and only a little over five hundred tons of combined spares and
general cargo, the Harrier - named for the small predatory bird so
successfully introduced across the Skye worlds - is entirely dependent on
either a reliable base of supply or forward support vessels of some sort. It
carries no dropships and only one small craft and six aerospace fighters. Its
armor is unimpressive even in context and its internal structure likewise. But
it does fit forty direct-fire sub-capital weapons and a sublight drive
generating four and a half gravities into a hull the size of - and capable of
taking advantage of repair slips meant for - the ubiquitous Merchant-class
commercial jumpship, and does so with a shockingly affordable price tag.

The first one is effectively a bigger version of battlesat station with a leg; instead of a single NL55, it has five full bays of HNPPCs, and its only role is to sit behind of the line and provides fire support at the long range. With total 300 points of capital damage output on nose, even the heaviest ships are not able to overlook the defense line formed by the swarm of meteorites. The other weaponry are only there for self defense against enemy ASF/dropship/missiles.

The second one is very weird design, that is expected to be more like the fighters rather than the ships. With the safe thrust of 3.5G It can outmaneuver most ASFs and also justify the weapons focused on front. Although it cannot focus three bays to the front, but it still able to focuse two bays unless the enemy is head on with it.

I choose the LPLs because of its medium range, and also its -2 to attack roll means it is effectively works as small range in capital as well.


And since both designs have naval C3 one can aid the aim of an another.

Exactly what the doctor ordered once again. Again my design is for the Capellan Confederation and is on the smaller medium size of the design limit. I present the Fei Dao(Flying Dagger) System defense corvette.

Fei Dao - 190k tons of mean. 3/5 MP acceptable but unspectacular without being overly slow. Very tough with 106 SI. Armor is focused onto the nose and front sides as this units main anti-ship armament is nose mounted so that's where incoming capital fire should fall. Other faces are more than enough for fighter and some dropship defense though.

Armament is heavy especially for tonnage. Two quad gun HNPPC bays on the nose giving terrific firepower. Aside from this all faces have 5 single SCL-3 for anti fighter/dropship work, a screen launcher with 20 shots each, and 5 twin gun shell firing AMS with 80 tons of ammo each. This ship has 1k spare heat capacity giving it a lot of AMS time due to shell firing AMS.

This unit has a pair of multipurpose small craft. This unit has 16 fighters. This unit has ten space mine dispensers. This unit has 1800 units of fuel 800 of which are specifically set apart for fighters and small craft. This unit only has 1500 tons of supplies

The Ghost Bears have decided that there is no more time for Mister Nice Bear.  The most vulnerable time for any jumpship is just after it jumps.  Therefore, a system defense corvette should hang out at the jump point, ready to swat any annoying flies who are the wrong shape on the warbook.  To do that, it needs about...540 points of capital damage should be enough.   Plus an extra 10 on every arc from the Clan Large Pulse Laser, the universe's final word in Anti-ASF defense.

Defense is not particularly heavy.  Nor is acceleration, and fuel is pathetic.  It needs a drop-tank to get it to and from the jump point.  This is an ambush predator, which has dumped all it's stats into attack, and is the Warship equivalent of a Hunchback IIC as a result.  Visually however, the design is very striking, essentially a large pyramidal dagger with the 'forward sides' of the design extending almost it's whole length.  The various NACs are in mounts that are able to fire past each other forward only by depressing until the hull buckles and flexes from the strain of the firing.  It has no multipurpose craft and no fighter escort, no drop-collar.  It has only raw purity of form and purpose.

Overview:
After the devastating FCCW the Fed Sun High Command found a need for a relativly cheap warship to protect Fed Sun worlds until the warship program was restarted.  Deciding on the sloop class designation the new ship design specification were put forth to Federated-Boeing to see if they could build it.
One of the determining factors of the design was a short assembly time ( 7 months).  Federated-Boeing acccepted the challenge and set its best people to design and build the new class.

Capabilities:
Designed around the NAC/10, she is a dropship killer first, planetary defender second and fleet harresser last.  Drawing upon lessons learned from the 4th succession war on, the design team dreamed of a ship to take on and destroy enemy dropships, enemy aerofighters, enemy jumpships and still be able to function in a fleet.   Backing up the NAC is a dual pair of NL 55's and NL 45's to add to her punch.  Enemy fighters are dealt with by 12 large pulse lasers and 16 AMS defense system.  Her ship killing weapons are her five barracuda launchers.

Deployement:
Only one vessels has been built, the Devonshire.  she was completed in September 3070.  she is still on trials and the class's future is unkown.
