Conjectural Star League-era Phoenix Hawk IIC precursor
« on: 09 January 2025, 22:48:30 »
In the current Phoenix Hawk IIC MoTW, it was mentioned that the concept for the Phoenix Hawk IIC may well have originated during the Star League era as an idea for a fast assault 'Mech for the SLDF's Striker regiments.  Considering the Pixie IIC's base weapon load, I further conjectured that there's one 'Mech that could fit the bill for a starting point:  the Rising Star, the forerunner of the WoBbies' Legacy.

So here's a hypothetical refit of the Rising Star chassis that has the base characteristics of the PXH IIC 1.  I took a Legacy and worked backwards, stripping out everything not available during the Star League era and boosting the speed and mobility. As weight-saving technologies are, shall we say, rather limited during the Star League era, the resulting is design is on the, uh, thin-skinned side.  In fact, with the tonnage spent on its large engine, heavy weapons, and jump jets, the amount left for armour would be good...for a 45-ton 'Mech.

Needless to say, it should be clear why the SLDF would decide not to run with the idea.

So, now I'm imagining people boxing up Overlords for loading as cargo.  "Nope, totally not a DropShip.  Everyone knows you can't fit a DropShip in a WarShip!  It's...a ten thousand ton box of marshmallows!  Yeah.  For the Heavy Guards big annual smores party."
--Arkansas Warrior, on the possibility of carrying Dropships as cargo in Warship cargo bays.

TERRAN SUPREMACY DEFENSE FORCE.  For when you want to send the SLDF, but couldn't afford the whole kit and kaboodle.

If you go with a 'royal' version with LB10x with 30 total shots, then you can get 200 armor, close to the 201 of the phawk IIC.
You could also swap for ultra ac5, since the OG had ultras.  They arnt... good... but they are paired ultras like the phawk iic had.

I did that on one of my versions of the same concept (though mine was designated the Phoenix Hawk III on the assumption that the II was the LAM)

Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

You could drop the speed down to 4/6/4 with 380 engine. That would free up 13.5 tons to install a 4.5 ton super charger, a 4 ton MASC or both, add in  CASE (I didn't see it), the machine gun and ammo, and bump the armor up to 12.5 tons (200). LBX-10s would free up more tonnage to bring both ammo bin up to 30 shots.

It'd be pretty close to the IIC weapon and armor wise with a 4/6(8/10)/4 movement.
