Steiners answer to the Carronade
« on: 21 January 2025, 02:58:59 »
I was just screwing around with a mech. Turns out it’s similar-ish to the Carronade, hence the title.

Long range trooper heavy. Can out range (but not outdamage) the Carronade, and in close it can put out a bit more damage. Also a bit more versatile against speciality armors.

I really like the light engines in theory, but find their extra weight limiting compared to XLs and usually am not happy with my designs that have them. Mixed tech helped alleviate some of the issues.

LFF was used to give extra endurance to the LGauss, which caused some weirdness with having a point of armor left over so one leg has an extra point of armor. It originally had standard armor but I saw the leftover crits and wanted the second ton of LGauss ammo.

Stuck with regular IS ER mediums because they pair nicely with clan streak ranges, and limit the mixed tech.

Name was chosen to be knightly, I imagine the LGausss as a lance.

I don't really see a benefit to the Streak-4 on this design.  You don't want to be sitting at short to medium range with a LGR.  You want to play the extremes of your range bracket to obtain the better to-hit numbers for your range (typically) being one bracker better than theirs at short and medium range (if you have to be there) or outside of their range entirely.

If you remove the Streak launcher you can downgrade to standard armor and use gained tonnage to equip a Guardian and add Art. IV to the LRMs which makes sense with the other direct fire weapons.  You could alternatively play around with Streak LRMs.

The last thing I'll note here is that having two tons of LGR ammo doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me when the LRM bins aren't carrying a comparable amount of ammo.  In a campaign you are likely going to retreat earlier with the smaller ammo bin.

For the two tons of LGauss ammo I figured I’d rather have more shots with the longest range weapon. It’s also got a lower minimum range so can keep shooting at all times.
The minimum range on the LRMs and losing out to the er mediums at exactly 8 hexes means it should see less use than the other long ranged weapons. Plus heat concerns up close.

I chose the streak 4 because I like them lol.
But this is also meant to be a trooper so it will have to push forward eventually. Or deal with fast things that get up on it, it’s not fast by the time it would come around.
