Are Engine Ratings an actual in-universe standardization?
« on: 23 January 2025, 21:11:35 »
I understand all equipment in BT is by its nature covering a wide-range of stuff, like how Autocannons of the same class can be either single shot or burst fire. But are engine ratings themselves an actual in-universe standardization system that units can operate around?

More specifically, I'm playing a grand strategy style game and I'm wondering if trying to standardize engine ratings is a thing players would actually try to do.

Is, 'Hey, if we have a single 240 fusion engine factory, we can use them for our a 30 ton light mechs, our 60 ton heavy mechs, and 80 ton assault mechs' an actual thought someone would have in-universe?

Similarly, would that same 240 fusion engine also be the same thing that goes into ASF, Conventional Fighters, Tracked, Wheeled, and Hovercraft vehicles? Obviously there'd be other bits added and removed to turn that power into movement by various methods, but could the actual reactor be the same?

Consider it out-of-universe shorthand.
