Hello,

I have a few situations that I would like a rule clarification on based on TW LoS rules in page 99 and 100.

Situation 1 - adjacent and elevation

On page 99 the rules state that two adjacent units always have LoS unless one or both are inside buildings or one is completely submerged. On page 100 intervening terrain rules say:

Terrain along the LOS between two units intervenes if:
• The level of the terrain or feature is equal to or higher
than the level of both units; or
• The terrain or feature is adjacent to the attacker and
equal to or higher than the attacker’s level; or
• The terrain or feature is adjacent to the target and equal to
or higher than the target’s level.

If my mech A is standind on level 0 clear terrain hex  and mech B is standing on an adjacent level 2 clear hex, does the mech A have a valid LoS to Mech  B due to adjacency or is LoS for mech A blocked because its senting next to level 2 terrain? Is LoS only one way (mech B can see mech A but not vice versa) and  can such a situation even occur in Battletech? Does anything change if the hill is level 3 or level 30?

Situation 2 - partial cover and LoS

Based on above rules, if mech A is the attacker standing behind an adjacent level 1 hill, and mech B is 5 hexes of clear terrain away from mech A (the 6th hex being the level 1 hill mech A is behind), does the hill count as partial cover for mech B since it is between mech A and mech B, even though intuitively speaking mech A is poking over the hill (which comes up to its waist) and should intuitively have clear LoS?

As the rules say, if you're adjacent, you have LOS.  So you have LOS.  There's no exceptions given for level differences.

LOS is always mutual: if one unit has LOS to another, that other unit has LOS back.

Partial cover is only possible if the mech is adjacent to the hex (see p. 102, TW).  Mech B is not adjacent, and so it does not get partial cover.
