Should've made a scene of an Atlas crushing two flatbed trucks :P

I also had an idea for using an Ishtar mini without a turret as a mech-sized Segway.

But Mechs don't use the same material.  Look at the fluff each one is built using there own brand which leads to all sorts of variation.  I mean look at the original 3025 Atlas fluff it specifically says it is not the tallest mech.   Yet people always want to pretend it should be
Three different brands of endo-steel are...all endo-steel.  Brands names don't really change the nature of the material, whether it's endo, plain old steel, titanium, whatever.  As for the Atlas...

Yes I know they have ignored that line.  They are wrong.
The people who create the universe are wrong?  I mean, I know that line was in the old TRO 3025.  But a lot of stuff from way-back has been retconned.  If new authors want the Atlas to be the tallest 100 tonner*, then it is.  Maybe the AS7-Ds they were building in 3000 were kinda short for a 100 tonner, but these modern AS8-Ds and AS7-S2s and things are built taller.

*Not sure I've ever seen that explicit anywhere, though it does make sense, just from posture, that the Atlas should be taller than a King Crab, Marauder II, Daishi, etc.  Maybe not an Annihilator?

Edit: not sure what happened with my font size there, sorry I didn’t notice sooner.

Battle Lance and character survey update has been posted.
Apparently you have a week to get them turned in for round 1 if you got them.

Urgh, don't like the Cataphract at all, hard to say exactly what's wrong but it is wrong. Center section could be more rounded.

I dunno, I kinda like it. But then again I'm building my next lance around Cataphract-0X. My judgement may be questionable.  :))

Goes too much toward MWO-tank-likeness. The original Cataphract has more rounded look. Now, reducing that a bit is OK, but the sketch does that too much, especially around the center section.

My judgement may be questionable.  :))
Yes... the CTF-0X looks really weird.
If you called that Cataphract II, i wouldn't even blink and i'd be fine with it. But supposedly a variant of the original?

That's a question of taste which has led to many arguments on this forum. I personally never got the big dome cockpit considering the mechs origins but to each their own.

I like the new Cataphract look.  Not so sold on the Bushwhacker- it's got a robustness to it that the real mech lacks.

The new designs have about 98% fewer gribbly bits that look like they'd snap off every time a MechWarrior misjudges how much clearance they have.

And 100% fewer legs that look like they'd snap at a full stride, let alone getting kicked by something large.

The cataphract has always been an ugly beast.

How come nobody does the X shaped LRM on the Bushwacker anymore?  There's a certain charm to that odd design.  New design's still good overall of course, and I want that Nightstar NOW.

Okay, I really like that whole lance- though like someone else said I wish the Bushie had its iconic X LRM launcher, its still not a 'normal' LRM launcher look.  Might look a bit too tall.

Compare my avatar to this-

And it is a meeting of old Cataphract and the MWO design- someone was complaining about not being rounded, but the center area with the cockpit while angled planes is still more 'rounded' than the MWO design.  It also has the same look above the hips.  After a quick look, it also seems to have the same legs as the Maruaders and the RA weapons pod housing is the same as the MAD but upside down.

I will be honest, I really like the MWO Cataphract . . . for me this maybe one I prefer the MWO design, but I agree that a lot of the MWO designs look too much alike, so the degree of differences between new & MWO maybe appropriate.

With that said . . . this Nightstar is awesome and really does point to its Marauder parentage.  Should be able to stand in for the -9FC besides the normal one, the triangle weapon mount gives it a different look.

I have  a metal bushwacker (I don't paint, I can put together though) ... I really like the look of it -- not to lean at all.

I like the x shape LRM launcher on the Bushwacker myself though this isn't the biggest deviation

I did notice it's almost the same shape launcher as the MW4 model

Though I miss the Bushwhacker's X shaped launcher, this setup looks like it's actually capable of being reloaded.

The Cataphract shows strong PC game influence. I approve.

Nightstar I don't love or hate. The jury is out until I see a 3D render.

And the best of the bunch: the Axman. Finally something that looks like the Hatchetman's bigger, meaner brother instead of a caricature of the Hatchetman.

isn't he a caricature in and of itself? I mean bringing an ax to a gun fight ;)
does the ax at least have an effect on its close combat strength?

The AC is torso mounted, so it can fire in the same turn you use the axe.  Only arm and leg mounted weapons can't be used when doing physicals.

The problem with the Nightstar is that this is the only cannon artwork I've ever known for it .

Kinda hard to judge what it is supposed to look like from that perspective.

I almost replied, 'no you can't' ... then realized I was thinking of handheld weapons, not mounted.

Probably the strongest part of the new Axman design is that it can now swing its arms without bumping into its hips.

I liked the old Bushwacker's X-shaped launcher too, but it's not really a mech I plan to buy or use so never mind me.

I am interested in the Cataphract.  I have a -0X because I thought it was a lot better looking.  I think I still prefer it, even though this new one is a lot less awkward than the original.

The King Crab is out on Scroggins' Patreon!  It's more similar to the MWO King Crab than to the original, but the arms and legs have rounded shapes, the cockpit windows are right up against the "roof", and that roof plate is uniformly convex rather than just the middle segment (which makes it feel a little like the old one).  I'm happy.
