The Tarantula holds the distinction of being the third canonical quad 'Mech and the first one not based on external artwork.  This makes it the oldest quad 'Mech still available in its original art.  We first saw it in Technical Readout: 3055, a late entry to the bug 'Mech family.  It was also one of the four(?) 'Mechs in TRO: 3055 whose model code (ZPH) didn't match its name.  In game, I imagine it plays similar to a Spider but don't take my word for it - read its 'Mech of the Week article!

The Tarantula is also one of the few 'Mechs that the Clans saw and adapted for their own.  This led to Clan Cloud Cobra's Stalking Spider, a slower but capable medium 'Mech.  Like its ancestor, the Stalking Spider was an early Clan quad 'Mech, one of the four(?) Clan quad 'Mechs in Technical Readout: 3060.  It too has a 'Mech of the Week article.

The Tarantula and Stalking Spider have each had one metal sculpt:
  • The Tarantula (20-789).
  • The Stalking Spider (20-918).
If you have either of these minis painted, please share pictures.  We'd love to see them!

Our next two fortnights will be:
  • 2/15: Blood Asp
  • 3/1: Sentinel and Kintaro

This Tarantula is from an early mercenary lance that we fought. I think it was called PPC Dance.

Reposed Tarantula and a typical Stalking Spider.

Tarantula, shown after a landing, is part of Wolf's Dragoon`s Alpha regiment. Needed a supersized base, some cutting and a lot of bending, but now it has all four legs on the ground.
The Stalking Spider is part of Clan Cloud Cobra's Epsilon galaxy.
