Getting next generation...
« on: 26 March 2024, 20:25:36 »
Hello all:

Thinking of setting up a game to involve my 8yo and 10yo boys.  The 10 yo has Aspergers while the 8yo has a one heck of a imagination. Thats why I want to do it as a RPG, just a little something for both of them.  I have copies of the 1st and 2nd edition Mechwarrior manuals.  Should I purchase the latest or would one of these suffice?  I haven't played an honest to goodness RPG for 30+ years.  I want something I can come home from a trip, and connect with the boys on a day where the elements don't allow us to be outside.  I think a little bit of story telling along with a table top battle would be just the right mix.

Any ideas or warnings would be welcome.

I tried this a couple or 3 years ago with my oldest, but he just wasn't ready for it.  Hopefully it goes better this time.

For your purposes, I think 2nd edition is best.

I agree; 2nd is more wholesome.  Have you introduced them to Battletech?

Yeah, Introduced them a bit, I just haven't had a chance to put some sort of long term campaign together.  They have also been busy with scouts, sports, etc.
