DakkaDakka Paint Range Compatibility Chart
« on: 27 April 2018, 09:55:18 »
You've all probably seen this, but I just ran across it. DakkaDakka has a Paint Range Compatibility Chart that compares the following paint lines: New Citadel, Old Citadel, Vallejo Game Color, Vallejo Model Color, Rackham, Reaper Master, Privateer Press P3, Coat D'arms, Army Painter. It also has a Hex Code value for each color, but I'm not sure what that's for.

Paint Comparison Chart

Unable to find a paint that you used to use? Has something been discontinued? Want to find the equivalent paint in a different range? Here is the ultimate painting matrix, comparing the games workshop Citadel paints with every known equivalent. Please note, hex codes are all approximate - double check before you get a batch of paint made up to match that colour!

You bought the box set and are ready to expand your BT experience. Now what? (Thanks Sartis!)

I run across that every once in a while when I'm trying to find a paint that was discontinued in some Citadel rebranding or other, or just trying to find something cheaper than GW.

I run across two real issues. Firstly, the table can be a bit misleading, as people will sometimes look at it thinking that they can match one paint by grabbing its equivalents from the table. This isn't always the case. Trust me, NOTHING quite matches Shadow Grey.  Secondly, the table only lists dedicated mini and model paints. It'd be far more useful if it also allowed you to look up equivalents from craft paint lines, like Apple Barrel or Delta.
