Not aware of any Aggressor type unit specifically. But I can easily imagine regiments using salvaged equipment in a manner similar to that on a smaller scale. A lance here, a company there. Often employed as the "red team" in training exercises to give soldiers experience training against Lyran designs. But not just a training unit, also a component unit of the regiment's combat forces.

From the Dark Age on, there has been plenty of fighting between the Free Worlders and the Lyrans. Lots of opportunity to pick up salvage or captured machines. I'm sure there's plenty of Steiner machines scattered around the inventory. I have no doubt there's a particularly strong concentration of that kind of hardware in units from Tamarind or units that have been stationed along the Lyran border for any length of time. But a lot of this stuff is centralized and the Chief Armorer can swap hardware around, move machines to centralized depots, then redistribute it to units, reassigning equipment to commands that need it more, it's not hard to imagine almost any FWLM regiment having a lance of steiner machines. That's easy to justify in my mind.

I believe FR 2765 FWLM actually describes the 1st Atrean Dragoons as being full of foreign mechs, and used as an Aggressor force or for false flag ops in this era.

This doesn't really help your search for a modern Aggressor though, sorry.

That's actually good enough fluff for me. My standards aren't all that high.
The 1AG also fought the Dragoons, so that's enough to sneak in a cheeky MAD2.

Will I get mod smacked if I post an overhead shot of my Succession Wars era 1st FWG combined arms Battalion here?

Also, is this enough purple?

Sorry to come in late, and that's a great looking unit! You should post on the minis page.

Mind walking me through how you painted them, as they've come out very clean.

Base is just drybrushing over a white basecoat, Citadel Leadbelcher for the guns, I think it was Phoenician Purple for the FWL purple. Corax White for touchups.
Then lightly brushed on Vallejo Pale Grey Wash for the white, Nuln Oil for the guns and Druchii Violet for for the purple.

On a tangentially miniature related note, does the League operate any particular formations that are traditionally noted for operating as Aggressor units? (More so that the typical League tendency to turn on itself anyway.)

I'm looking for a place to dump a Marauder II, Banshee and a couple of Hatchetmen in League colours, so an OPFOR specialist unit would fit the bill if we have one.

Go big or go home: First Regulan Hussars. They spent the first quarter of the 31st Century operationally deployed on the Lyran, Capellan, Periphery, and internal fronts. They fought against and alongside the Dragoons in the mid/late 3010s. And they are well-noted for using what is on hand--and making what is on hand (or close by, if you know what I mean) work. If any regiment (or brigade, really) in the FWLM would not only have access to but also use salvaged equipment, it would be the Steel Hussars and their brigade siblings.

One of these days someone is going to realize that you get to just pick the thread title if you make the new thread.

Open to change if enough people complain, even more open to invoking emergency powers vested in the office of the Captain-General to keep it how it is.

Motion to change thread title deadlocked in committee...  ;)

Its all good.

For that matter, going by Hunting Season, we sold the Steiners mechs (conditional that they not be used against Tamarind) for use against the Clans that got used against Tamarind. That border is a wild place.

Heck look at the MUL for the Dark Age Regulans.  They have tons of Steiner kit. The other sub factions, not so much, since they use either homegrown, Sea Fox, exported Kuritan and Capellan stuff, or common use mechs like the Longbow and the Highlander.  StarCorps really made money hand over fist in the Dark Age.

It was pretty well established that Lester had trade missions, particularly for military supplies, going to the Lyrans.  Pretty much a win-win for both parties . . . Lyrans get a militant and militarized destabilizing faction in the center of League space.  For over 60 years they had managed to prevent the League from reforming, to the point Jessika trolls Blakists to remove them as a obstacle.  The Lyrans are so unlikely to ever face the Regulans in combat- they would have to go through a LOT of League territory to reach them.  And of course, for the Lyrans they can keep their mech production cranked up making money while still drinking Stone's Koolaid.

For the Regulans?  They can pick up a assaults so they do not have to devote a lot of resources to trying to build that production- and typically assaults that will be beefier than what other League states build (design philosophy difference) to give them a combat edge.  Not really sure what they are trading to the Lyrans but it is still economic lifeblood.  Heck, they might involve in something like . . . take load of Ogres to Solaris VII & Arc Royal, sell to mercs, buy Lyran assaults and lights, come home.  Someone might even be buying Ogres on Solaris VII and shipping them to Galatea when it was under the Republic to be sold at the merc hub.

To go further, the Regulans were also selling military equipment to the Cappies- namely the Tufana std & (iNARC) as mentioned in fluff.  What they got from the Cappies we never really learn.  Maybe the cash to buy Lyran assaults?

Historically, those who partner with the Capellans get strikingly little in return. Ask the Taurians.

Or, as a fun exercise, bring up the MUL and see how much League-produced stuff is available to the Confederation from 3050-3061 (the period covering the supposed impending Marik-Liao dynastic alliance), and then see how much Confederation-produced stuff is available to the League in the same era.

Oriente getting one sleepless night more than they would have otherwise counts as payment in full as far as Regulus is concerned, I think.

The alliance with the Confederation made them slightly less nosy, since Daoshen already assumed that he was smarter than everyone else.  By pretending to be the foolish pawn, Jessica quieted him for the moment. No one thought the Confederation had the League's interests in mind.
That said, after the 4th, the Confederation was basically a major periphery power until Guerrero. They lost Tikonov, their major mech production hub, and they lost Sarna and St Ives with it for Pete's sake.

It is still trade, so it remains to be seen what they would be getting in return.  I mean it could be as simple as ECMs, Plasma Rifles, and Stealth Armor.  What I would have liked to see is them pawning off some of the Trinity BA they were no longer going to be able to sell to Taurians of one stripe or another.

AFAIK, Regulus main military exports we are told about is the Tufana and Ogre BA.

So got to the section in Shrapnel 8 where it discusses Canopian Pleasure Circuses visiting Regulan Fiefs in '43 . . . interesting tidbit was that Trinidad's planetary ruler had the title of Rajah.  We had talked a few months back about if they adopted more of the Indian nobility layers than Count/Duke/etc.  Seems they did.

I do not think that the Capellans really had a trade set up with the League. The only job the Confederation really had anymore was to slow down any Steiner-Davion advances. To that end, Thomas started handing formerly loyal mercenary commands to the Confederation as he sought to cleanse the League of mercenaries, and build a cleaner military. The irony of this is that those were competent and clean mercenary commands who could have been absorbed into the League command structure (Plausibly willingly with titles and deeds granted, you know like knights). Instead the authors decided to use such a plot device to strengthen the Capellan Confederation.

My wife threw out the idea to dress my kid up for the state Con on Saturday as his named mechwarrior character, he will spend some time that morning with us and his uncles before he takes off with grandma when she picks him up.

SO . . . I told her the 'mechwarrior' outfit would work pretty well for that weather- shorts, t-shirt, boots, maybe a helmet, toy gun in a holster, maybe a vest for a coolant vest.

BUT . . . what else?  I am wondering if I can get a 4th Regulan Hussars patch made- for him the FWL patch would not work due to the timing of his entry.  What about rank tabs as a Captain?

Also trying to figure out how to work an image of his Supernova into his costume.  Any ideas?

Very. I'm particularly interested in what the Clan Protectorate will get up to. I hope, with all my heart, that the Spirit Cats don't bend the knee; I like that they and their Nova Cat progenitors have always gone their own way.

I'm also hoping that the League takes back Stewart so I can justify some Black Wolf Battle Armor in my FWL forces...
Welcome to interesting times
