What I want to know is this. I drive a Focus with a 2.0L that calls for my oil to be changed every 3000 miles, yet the EXACT SAME engine in a Euro Focus asks for it to be changed every 15000. Whats the deal? Do we use different oil here or have I just been Big Oil's B all these years?
Just getting ready to repair/restore/modify a 1986 AMC Eagle Sport 2+. I figure my 16year old daughter can and will be plenty embarassed when she has to drive it.
Very nice. Feel like repainting my GTO?
Very nice. Feel like repainting my GTO?
Is the paint already failing? ???No, it has a couple chips and scratches that I primarily blame on my wife. I need to get them fixed, but ponder a complete repaint to a new color.

Oh - a color change is against my religion
The paint is failing on my 99 Dodge :'(
Yeah, I normally don't color change either. But in the end, they technically only made 876 of my car. With a paint change I can make it utterly unique.
The paint on the truck is failing?
Yes - it's common with these new crappy paints - clear coat over base coat. The clear coat fails and flakes or peals off.
Don't you guys have the sun out there? ;D :D ;)
Mattlov, I would recommend against a color change unless you are willing to do it correctly. Just squirting paint on the outside is not enough, you need to paint all the areas like door jams, under hood and trunk et al. Repaint the can the factory color and add highlight (racing stripes or something). This will end up looking a lot better and keep the resale up unless you try to pass it on to someone who doesn't know better.
I can't tell you how many cars I've inspected and found a really nice paint job and opened the door, trunk, or hood (or all three) and found the dingy dirty original paint in a non-complementary color (think British racing green over purple).
Not much in the winter, no. Plus the GTO is parked in the garage.
Just getting ready to repair/restore/modify a 1986 AMC Eagle Sport 2+. I figure my 16year old daughter can and will be plenty embarassed when she has to drive it.Yeah, that is one ugly car. I had a 79AMC Concord (the Eagle's predecessor) and it was uglier, all I can remeber about the car is the Green paintjob (w/gold striping) with a tan interior. I called it the Boogermobile due to the coloring. I did love the big Inline 6 under, though
See, the issue I have with statements like that is styling is an aesthetic. And aesthetics are deeply personal and subjective. While one person may adore it, another is completely turned off.
Exception - Pontiac AztecThe Aztek isn't pretty, but there are uglier things out there. Mid-late 90's Taurus, any Buick Rendezvous (same body, different shell), Honda S2000's...
I have a car with square wheels. What can I do?

Get seats with extra soft, extra squishy padding.
What's wrong with the S2000? It's not my type of car, but I don't see the issueNever liked it. It always seemed like it was trying to be BMW Z3, which a car I also dislike.

I don't know man. I always thought they were trying to copy the MGA. :-\
(http://www.britishv8.org/MG/ThomasRoss/ThomasRoss-AA.jpg)
(both the Beemer and the Honda)
No - they are trying to copy the Triumph TR-7 ;D :D
Well that's the defined in the Asian Design Handbook
Rule #1: Copy the Germans
Rule #2: Go back to Rule #1
The shape of things to come?? :D :D :D :D

Thne I want to know what the Skyline was copied from, cause it most be unto a god-like car. ;D
Post a picture of it and I'll find the German car they copied
Here you go. This should be interesting. :)

Chance are it was copied from the European God car, the BMW-3 series.

It is too big I think,
Funny how you take a Pontiac Aztek, shrink it 25%, and call it a "Prius", and it's all the damn rage.
As an aside, I didn't mind the Aztek, but I also think the Chevy Cavalier Wagon with the V6 is the spiffiest car on the planet.
The front of the Aztec followed Pontiac design well, the thing that ruined the thing for me was the back end. Suvs should not be hatchbacks.

Easy!
Mercedes Benz SL300 [notworthy]
That's a common FAIL in most car design
There are several SUVs/Station wagons that start out great on the nose, but the styling fails as you get to the back. It's almost like they ran out of money and has to just chop off the back of the clay block.
I think the Magnum wagon was the opposite
I was thinking of a Mercedes SUV. Ugly as sin from the back. And it wasn't the cheap, entry level one, either.
No, it's awful from EVERY angle.
At least the Magnum has a little umph under the hood, unlike...well, any station wagong since the 70s.
Sexy.
I love me my station wagons. I had an 85 Ford Country Squire, whom I named the Big Beaver, because, well it was covered in beaver wood. Had the fuelie 5.0. While not the quickest car around, I did manage to surprise more then a few individual in my cruising days. Even picked up a (toothless) girl in it. I quickly dropped her off.

I've ever really thought about what my favorite car visually is. I tend to think in "whole package." Time to ponder this, but my guess is that it will be European, with prancing horse on a yellow shield...
According you you cats, mine would apparently be "Dogs Playing Poker".
I don't know why I like Station Wagons...
...but I like Station Wagons. :D
For me, the best engine was always GM's 3.8L v-6s. Damn things are bullet-proof. My ex had a cavalier, so can understand the attraction, just was always to small for me. :)
According you you cats, mine would apparently be "Dogs Playing Poker".
I don't know why I like Station Wagons...
...but I like Station Wagons. :D
I have been driving for about 10-11 years. I have owned 8 cars in that time. 4 of them have had the 3.8L, including my current firebird, and only one of them was lost due to engine problems. And that one I can chaulk up to a cop owning it before me. They will outlast anything if treated with even casual dis-like. I will love this motor till the day I die. Now the Olds 307 V-8......um, no. :)
Over the past 30 years I've had 94 cars with engines of 1.3L, 2.2L, 3.0L, 5.0L, 225, 318, 340, 360, 383, 426, and 440CI
Well your an over-achiever. ;D
tune ups? what are those?
No that's crazy high. Why does it need a tune up at 30k?
If it's anything like our Z/28 it required a steady diet of fuel injection cleaner.
I don't understand how that could have added up to $700 [tickedoff]
I try get a tune up every 18 months or so. I can't let slow performance degradation get me below 400 HP!
Here's the breakdown:
New Front pads and rotor resurfacing: $225 (After $50 Rebate "savings")
Standard Tire rotation: $22
4 Wheel alignment: $100
Fuel System Service: $150
Full Synthetic Oil Change: $57
Replace Serpentine Belt: $85 (Belt cost more than labor)
Add in tax and you get right about $650.
They didn't feel the plugs needed replacement when they did the Fuel System check and cleaning, probably saved me an ass-load considering the rest of their parts costs.
My rear brakes were about $245 for new high perfomance rotors and and pads installed.
What kind of car is this?
Funny I always see a Pacer or Ointo in it.
Pinto + small block chevy, and I can be pretty sure it be going over 90. Who said you had to enjoy living in it?
...that's like mayonnaise on a hot dog... :P
Knock it all you want, but Chevy has done masterful things with small blocks. But just the same, then put a 429 in a Pinto, and before it explodes it will top 90 mph.
a chevy engine in a ford? that's like mayonnaise on a hot dog, only silly people in california do things like that. :P
Well why would one want a small block in you could get a big block?
Most manufactures used to have two V8 engines. The smaller one would be used in intermediate sized cars and the bigger one in full size cars and trucks. It was just easier for most people to call them out as small block and big block rather than their call out.
And now days that is not so? ???
The big blocks, for the most part, went the way of the dodo. Stringent EPA regulations and the death of the muscle cars during the 70 and 80 high gas prices made gas guzzling big blocks unattractive to consumers and manufacturers.

Do not forget the Viper's motor.
Yet we saw the return of big engine sizes.
Dodge has a 6.4L Hemi and the diesel is 6.7L - both pretty darn big
Thought it was still an option on the Ram?
Well I'm in the process of putting the running gear out of a 1993 Ramcharger into a 1975 Trail Duster.
Going to a MPI 360 with a 4 speed automatic - lots of changes
I'm guilty of driving a big ass truck but at least it's a diesel :-\
So are a bunch of the ****** Excursions. ::)
At least you actually use it as a truck. Tow something, ******!!!! >:(
I'm tempted to buy a new Hemi Challenger but I don't want a car payment or higher insurance.
I drive by a dealer on the way to work & they have (I think) a used one for 27k. I have been tempted to look at it. I haven't had a fast car in a long time.
go and test drive a supercharged camaro!! :D :D :D

Seeing as how we were talking about big blocks vs small blocks and all that, take this test (http://www.americantorque.com/game/60s-V8-engine-ID/#cntnt) and see how you do.
I got 12 of the 19. :-[
I just started working at a Chevy dealership and was very surprised to see NOTHING has the 3.8 liter in it anymore. I was sad to discover this.
really? had one pass me on the toll way. clearly marked and sounded.
Hopefully I can finish restoring my heater box this weekend
Time to fire up the welder? :P
Did the use the NP205 still? Sweet case... I'm stuck with a 208. Not great but works better then those electric jobbers.
Waiting for the Norton club to show up at work. Maybe some cool pics to come... 8)
unfortunately, only one Norton showed up. Something about British bikes + 100 degree temps = melted pistons. :-\
Be quiet. I'm enjoying Rsfield right now.
what you gonna do about the busted case?
anyone got experience with INTREPIDs?
I've a 2000 with the 3.2L V6 and AutoStick.
Engine and Trans is fine.
my problem is the electronics.
door locks ... going bad
HVAC digital display ... bad
remote unlock & alarm ...bad
*and some problems with the front suspension*
any suggestions?
I've checked for loose grounds etc...
God I wish it was 100 here. It only made it to 76 :-\
Are you freaking mad? ONLY 76! That's too damn hot for my blood!
Well every car guy knows that Midgets run hot :D
I think clang is a rubber bumpered midget (you know, the ones nobody wants...) :D :D :D :D :D
I come back and find the auto hall thread deep sixed?
What's wrong with you people!
Anyways, does anybody want to pick up a pair of vans, '64 and '65 dodge 100 town panels - one is parts, the other is doable without a lot of cancer but needs lovin' from someone.
Massive engine bays; and I just happen to have a 5.7liter hemi from a dodge ram that was pulled in working condition (all that's wrong is one of the engine mount ears on the block was knocked off).
Pics are entirely possible...
We've also got a Plymouth wagon, 64, I think, but its in need of serious lovin - we bought floorboards, if you get my drift.
What year is the 944 Mopar? Odds are it willbe something small but horribly expensive to fix.
Well I'll give some updates:NP203 on the trailduster? Nice case but yea... Had an 84 K2500 with it. 6 MPG was doing good. I looked into kits to convert it (just putting on P/T hubs makes it do bad things) but sold the truck before I got too far.
My 99 W2500 Quad Cab Cummins Turbo Diesel just hit 200,000 miles.
I've got the 93 360 MPI engine running in my 1975 Trailduster. Need to replace the transmission dipstick tube O ring and decide how I want to make the front axle part time.
The 1971 Challenger R/T is coming along slowly. The undercoating has been applied. We currently struggling to get the vinyl top on because it's just to cold. Finished painting the dash frame so need to put that back together. The transmission and sure grip unit should be back in about two weeks.
On a sad note my Porsche 944 Turbo has decided it doesn't want to start - haven't figured out why.

Strong as heck though.
Ohhh, nice! I like old iron with new tech. I always wanted an older car (mmm, Duster) with a a fuel injected LA block. Never happen, but it's good to dream.
I hope you'll post some pics sometimes! Of all the Big 3, I've never owned a Mopar 4x4. I had a sweet 77 D200 that was sea foam green with a 360, but she was only a two-by. A freind of mine had a 93 Ramcharger in High School, and boy was that sweet.Yeah I'll post some pics in the morning
Fnord.
With my current job I've been driving the new Fusions and Taurus around and I have to say, they are pretty damn nice.
Before, the only time "nice" and "Taurus" were in the same sentence was "Sure is nice to get out of this Taurus." Now, they are something I'd be willing to pay money for. Not that I have that money, but I'd be willing to pay it if I had it.
I got a TRUCK for Christmas!
2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab.
swiped this picture from the dealer's website.
already started a list of upgrades I'd like.
straighten out the exhaust system: I want dual headers to dual straight pipes.
add more light: quad set of fog lights in the grill
The Intrepid I had just started falling to pieces. I wanted to wait til February, but the car wouldn't make it.
Rams really are the best of the Big 3's trucks. Nice one!
Right now, I actually like the look of all three brands of trucks. This hasn't happened in a long, long time. The Toyota and Nissan, however, are still pretty bad looking. :/
The Big 3 trucks don't look bad, but the new Rams drive so much better than the Silverados or F-150s.
Haven't dealt with Toyota and Nissan in a while, and that is just fine by me.
Had a Tundra as a loaner when my Yaris had an airbag ring failure. Not bad, but frikken huge (compared to the Yaris)
Well they are the least ugly. However I wish they still had a quad cab (small suicide doors)
MINE is a quad cab. The dual suicide door option is no longer offered, but they're available on the used market.
Realistically, there ain't much difference. Four seperate doors is only +150-200 lbs. difference, and they're safer in an accident than the suicide doors. The frames help protect cab integrity.
Now I'm just waiting on tax refund.
Got my list ready to go:
dual headers>dual pipes
K&N air filter,
and a cold air intake system to get installed.
oh, and the extra foglights in the grill.
Well to me the difference is having a "B" pillar or not. Your truck has a that and it makes it stiffer, but you are limited by the door size opening when loading things into the truck.
I understand. But anything I can't fit into the cab... goes in the bed.
cats, dogs, mother in laws. :D
My dog freaks out if I try put him in the bed. And I mean total freak out.
Hmmm.... Xanax for dogs?We actually tried something like that and no go
We actually tried something like that and no go
Huh. Ok well send me any extra Xanax. I can use it for something...
Hey isn't it your birthday today!
Idle has gone wonky on the Ranger. The truck will not idle any longer at 650idh RPM but keeps bouncing between 200 and 1000. If the engine is really cold, air temp today is 20, then it likes to stall at idle. It goes into the shop monday to get it fixed, which is the downside to a Northern Ohio winter, you can't work on crap till after April.
Any check engine light on? I'm guessing gunk in the throttle bodyNo check engine light. Turned out the Mass Air Flow Sensor was dirty. Which is odd since it is behind the air filter. I'm only out 20 bucks so no big deal.

I hope it's not behind a K&N air filter. They can leach oil that will get on to the mass air sensor getting it dirtystock air filter.
must not be sealing very wellI've got some time in the morning so I'm going to poke around a bit.

battery not holding its charge, or starter is heading south.
Muahahahahaha! My '66 Bug now has a 2054cc engine! (Note, stock was 1300cc, and I'd previously had a 1584cc - ie. "a 1600"). Assuming I pass tech inspection, I'll be running in the autocross event the SD chapter of the Porsche Club of America is running on Saturday.
So you found yourself a Bus engine? Any other mods? PICS????? >:( ;D
Here's the Challenger at the vinyl top shop.
Posting this for Damage since there is the guys car in the background.
Morgan?
Try this one
Why put numbers on side of Bug with tape? Because racecar.
Car really needs suspension mods for autocross: evidently, there is now video of me with one of the Bug's front wheels a foot off the ground going through a turn.
And not in a good way. Running about 6-7 seconds behind the slower of the Porsche 914s, at 1:22.43 for my best time.
But, OMG was that fun!

the reason he said to stick with the Kadron is that (in his opinion) the Webers were crap.
I deal with Webers too (british cars,). I have seen some crap webers come out from the factory. wrong parts, ports not drilled out, missing parts (like bb check balls). and this is before trying to tune the engine with them on....
On an unrelated not, are you gonna write anymore Tabby stories? I miss reading them. 8)
Oh goody. I get to assemble a BMW engine......
.....That I didn't take apart. I wonder how many parts are missing?
Dude, that sux bawls. Sorry to hear that.
Yeah, but at least I like Fusions.
Now I'm just trying to find some performance parts for it. I need some sort of engine upgrade.
I was rather impressed with the Fusion when I got them at Hertz. I think I got 36MPG out of one of them. O0
Mopar, what kind of shape is the the wee beastie in? If it is thrashed you may just want to sell/donate it, if is in good condition and you are willing fix (but have the boy work off some or all of the cost of the parts builds character). Just my thoughts on the subject.
fix it, then sell it if the boy is unappreciative.
fix it, then sell it if the boy is unappreciative.
Sad times. I have gotten rid of the GTO. Changed my work schedule and have to commute now, and that just wasn't a commuter vehicle. In Ohio now, you don't get your title when you pay off the loan on your car. I had to go to the title bureau and shell out $16 for a paper title.
Got a 2010 Ford Fusion with 13K miles for it straight up. Cost me $15 for a documentation fee.
the only reason i can come up with (and its a stretch) is hose collapse at high temps or puncture threat.
Man, he sounds like my step cousin, Mopar. Unfortunately, he met a bad end. :( I hope the boy learns that these machines are not disposable toys and he should be a bit more respectful and learn how to use them properly.
It's our truck not his. He was "borrowing it" because his STi is in the shop with a blown motor.
Let's recap some of "the boys" car exploits ...
Mazda RX-7 sideswipes truck
Mazda RX-7 rear ends car
Mazda RX-7 backs into car
Mazda RX-7 oil pan ripped off curb jumping
Audi Coupe sideswiped by truck - car effectively totaled
Neon SRT-4 - crashed - twice
Neon SRT-4 - stolen - recovered - totaled
S2000 - crashed - twice
S2000 - spun rod bearing
S2000 - car broken into - supposed sabotage of engine - car totaled
STi - engine blown
STi - modified to ethanol - engine blown
Borrowed Mazda Pick Up - killed dog
Borrowed Mazda Pick Up - blown head gasket
That's the short list >:(
If he's under MY roof or on MY insurance ... I'd take the DL and all driving privileges and strike him from the insurance. Give him a MOPED until he learns to drive SAFELY.
If he's independant: I'd stop fixing his broken equipment and forbid him from touching my vehicles.
6 different vehicles he has effectively destroyed? wow.

Mopar, he needs some serious time running the shoe leather express or on pedal powertm.
I don't know what to think of the new Dart. Looks neat, but I need to find out about the engine options.
Those are some nice cars. I have a cuda like the first pic (but a fast back, and not restored).

I've got a 68 fastback in my shop
My '07 RAM 1500 is riding on 20"s.
Tires are gonna cost a metric buttload of $$$.
so far I've seen an average of $168 EACH.
then +tax +mount,balance, etc...
I'm thinking it'll come to about $900 - $950.
(That's ALOT of fraking minis worth!)
any idea what is involved in swapping out for a wheel that can take a cheaper tire?
My truck no longer uses a speedometer gear - the just count the pulses for the ABS to figure out speed
based on a certain size of tire. if you change the diameter of the tire, you change the circumference of the tire. which changes the distance the vehicle moves in 1 revolution, or speed.
Don't ask me - my tires are 285/75/16 BF Goodrich All Terrain and the total cost is $1052I'm boggling at that, over $1000 for tires. I can get the same size for $120 a tire from a local place that retreads used tires and despite abusing them through woods and wetlands I get over 30,000 miles out of them no trouble.

I got my hands on a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi. The Fusion was nice, but was so BORING.
The Pontiac has buttons for people that have sausages for fingers
Nice!
I've started a new job so the car work has slowed to the weekend. I'm about to get the engine into the 63 Sport Fury
New job? ***faint***
Very light tinny(not tiny) intermittent squeal emanating from the front of my Focus' engine. The serpentine looks good, there is no obvious fluid leaks, so i'm down to either a bearing in a pump/alternator or a pulley is making the noise. Any good ways to diagnose this? I do have access to a lift next weekend.
Congratulations, Mopar.
Does it have an idler or tensioner? Buddy of mine just lost one of those on his 5.3 GMCI think so. But the way the front of the engine is crammed against a wheel well i cant see much.

According to the shop, the entire driver control module blew out. All said and done, a $1200 repair. Since I bought a warranty, it will cost me $50. :D
SWEET!
Yep. Those aftermarket warranties are not a horrible thing to buy. They are expensive at initial buy, but worth it. I also got the catalytic converter replaced at no cost. So the warranty has basically already paid for itself. And son the transmission will fail, and the warranty will cover that as well. All for a $50 deductible.
Anybody read Czech? I need someone to bounce translations off of. I'm working on one of these :

it's so ugly...
it would fit nicely with the family's VW Thing.
wonder what it $$ and how much it would be to ship it Stateside.
[/quote
It's about 3 times the size of a Thing (8 feet wide :D).sorry no help here either, mostly because as a mechanic i pull it apart till i find the busted part, replace said part, then put it back together again.
It appears to be an electrical issue, so translating the wiring schematic is most beneficial to me. O0
I admit I had a little bit of a shock (badabum ching) when I had to jump the battery on my new cobalt for the first time (due to an error of mine where I hadn't realized a light got left on all night) and was trying to figure out where the cables hooked on. There was a cover over the battery where there almost wasn't enough to clip the positive cable on so I took the cover off. Much to my surprise it looked like no battery I'd ever seen before, completely covered in fuses. Now I say this because the only cars I'd ever changed a battery on were later 90s at oldest so I kind of felt like frankenstein's monster viewing the angry mob... I wanted to run the other direction. :D I did get the car jumped, but only after a few obligatory curses as I attempted to find a good place to ground the negative cable. The whole interior under the hood looks like a plastic lunchbox because everything is covered.... fangled designers and what not. ;)
Do it, and find a newer RAM.
sadly, no new RAM for me. Beast didn't have as much equity as I thought.
maybe after tax returns?
I had a 318 V8 in my first car, an '84 Chrysler Fifth Avenue (BOAT!). I received the car for free (yay!), but only after it was first stolen from my mom, and two weeks had passed. She gave in and went out and bought a new car, and the very next day the old one was found on somebody's front lawn in Detroit. Several hundred dollars in repairs later, I had my first car.
wow. I hadn't heard that designation in 20 years! actually had to google it... then had a !Du-Oh! moment when I recognized it. :D
Welp, any plans for restoring/purchasing are out the window, yesterday I hit a parked car and messed up the bumper and hood of the 01 ram I've been driving. Since the title's still in dad's name, but insurance is only covering the car i hit. I have to fix the truck asap, and out of my own pocket.
How do you hit a parked car?Allergies
here's a Modern Mopar question for y'all...
WHERE the frakin' HECK is the oil pressure sensor located on a 2000 Dodge Neon?
Yes. I know it's on the engine. I've crawled all over the dang thing, and cannot find the sensor.
The sensor needs replacement because it is triggering false Low Oil Pressure warning lights.
And this idiot light *BLING*ing at me every couple minutes is driving me insane!!!!
AllergiesNeeds improvement, at least when I backed my box truck over a mailbox this winter I had the excuse of it being a white mailbox during a nasty snowstorm.
thanks, MM.
I've actually had my hands on it, just didn't realize it.
didn't the SSEi model have an optional 'lock down' mode for their alarm system?
sounds like that is trying to activate.
if you haven't check the relays under the hood.
they would be only system that could take so much juice so quick.
any other fuse would pop, I think
Differences in the wiring harnesses. I've dealt with this before, you're usually better off going after market for your brake controller anyway, and their wiring to a seven wire flat is screwy at best compared to normal trailer wiring standards. That options pack also seems to be the only way to get the towing mirrors on the SLT. Everything else seems to have them as a straight option.
[...the Hellcat seems to be missing it's cigarette lighter...and the XL Fusion Engine.]
I got a new, interesting problem with my Bonneville! YAY!
As before, 2001 Bonneville SSEi.
Idles WRONG at times, engine revs and drops and tries to die, then revs itself some more. Never goes higher than about 1500 RPM. Usually will die.
It then doesn't want to start. Turns over just fine, but won't catch and stay running.
The BEST part: It will die WHILE I'm driving. RPMs don't seem to matter. And it dies quiet. No sputtering, no jerking, just a little death. I don't even notice sometimes. Battery light is the only light that comes on when it does this. Battery is only about 4 months old.
Also, a burning smell can be detected at all times. A plastic/rubber/covering burning smell, not oil or fluid.
I got nothing. Any ideas?
Or the plug wires
so it seems that the pinion seal on the Beast has begun to leak.
I've already picked up a quart of the necessary lube and checked the fluid level: it's ok for now.
any idea of the necessary Hours to replace the seal?
2007 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD with 4.7L and auto...............
the parts aren't expensive: less than $100 for all fluids and the seal.
but labor?
Sweeeeeet!
GhostDoes a Wrangler really need heated leather seats? Mine has wind up windows. >:D #P
Cool Jeep. I looked at some the other day to show my wife how crazy expensive they are.
MM
Ghost - I want pics where I can't tell it's green ;DConsidering how difficult it has been to get that thing clean after a few runs through the mud pit, no more mud pits! #P ;D
Just got back from Carlisle spending major coin on Mopar goodies and paint

Currently contemplating if I should buy a 2016 Challenger Hellcat. You know you want to keep it and snicker as you drive it.
Looks like VW is going to buy back my 2013 VW Passat SE TDI for quite a lot of coin
You know you want to keep it and snicker as you drive it.
How about a Shelby GT350? It can actually handle turns!
Keep the Passat? ???Why not, it is still an efficient working car right? The only reason anybody knows about the cheat is VW immediately fessed up to it.
The Shelby looks good and all but I'm too much of a Mopar guy to do that

I'm pretty sure if you have to take time to think "Do I want a Passat or a Challenger Hellcat" you shouldn't be driving the Hellcat. :D
It is. I paid $29K for it out the door with all the taxes and fees. VW is going to pay me between $21.5K and $24K for it with 60,000+ miles on it and me getting to use it for 4 years. I can keep it but then I get $6000 and they have to fix it which could result in poorer gas mileage and performance. If they can't fix it I'll be forced to turn it over.$24K? Take the money and run! I need to beg borrow or steal one so i can get in on this.

i recently bought a 2014 Fiat 500 turbo, (re: september 2015) and wouldn't trade it for anything, then again though i don't have a family to have to do for with it, just the occasional dog to take to the vet. removed the rear seats and am putting a hard deck in the rear area so that i can hard mount things i need to keep with me.
what kind of MPG do you get? what did you pay?
OK gang - need your thoughts.Couple people with long commutes at work have the diesel Cruze. They like them so far and haven't had any trouble in three-ish years.
VW is going to buy back my Passat and I need to find a replacement. Keeping the car would not be the greatest financially. Plus I'm not happy with the VW maintenance costs.
I need a car that will get my to work which is a couple of days a week at 270 miles round trip. I need to park it at a park and ride. Good gas mileage would be nice but it doesn't have to get the 46.5 MPG I get in the Passat. I loathe automatic transmissions. I prefer coupes over sedans, but would consider a wagon.
What would you recommend?
I have a nice '83 AMC Eagle SFX O0
Here's an odd problem.
2001 Bonnevile SSEi. On occasion, my tachometer will zero out. No revs registering. The car is still running just fine. There is a tiny little hiccup when it does this, but it is so slight it is easy to miss. One time it did this, the check engine light came on. Got it checked out, Error code was "Camshaft Position Sensor Failure." Next time I turned on the car, engine light is off.
Now I don't suspect it is that sensor, because everything I read says if that sensor is bad, it is an engine kill failure. No starting, no running, nothing if that sensor fails.
I'm running out of ideas. I know there is SOMETHING wrong, but I sure as hell can't figure out what it is.
New problem, different car...
My wife's '02 Silverado V6 2WD doesn't want to start. Acting like it isn't getting fuel. Fuel pump is audibly working, fuses and relays are intact, and I just changed the fuel filter (which was a pain in the ass).
When the filter was changed I got gas dripped on me from both ends, so it doesn't seem like the fuel line is clogged. I'm suspecting it is still the fuel pump, but wondering if there was another option I hadn't thought of.
Did you put the fuel filter in the correct direction? They only go one way. Your gas drip test is no indicator.
Yes, the arrow on the fuel filter makes that pretty idiot proof. :)
Yes, but they are making better idiots these days :))
Found the original window sticker for my CTS Sport Wagon
$51085 :o
Yep. Caddy's aren't cheap. :)

is it fuel injected or throttle body, if it is fuel injected you actually have two fuel pumps, the transfer pump back at the tank and the injector pump up next to the engine. couldn't tell you more than that. Also some trucks have a sock filter on the tank pump that sometimes does need to be cleaned.
Been a long while, but I've got one the denizens of this thread can enjoy reading - mostly because they will be laughing at the misery I had: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/northstar-engines-system-technical-discussion/852817-1997-deville-possible-topend-maybe-full.html
Suffice it to say, mom likes her caddies; we lost her old '97 concours, and got a new one, only to find out that the 90s-00s northstar motors were/are notorious for pulling head bolt thread out (lifting heads).
Wow, whatta fun job that was. Never taken a drill to an engine block before ... don't wanna ever do it again! #P
I need to get moderately rich and put the '67 dart /6 back on the road and stick some handling upgrades into it.
in the past month I've put $1900 of repairs into my '07 Ram 1500.
-rebuild transfer case & bearings.
-replace front right wheel bearings.
the spouse is not happy.
and she doesn't even know that it needs tires yet.
( $540+)
I've never lost a head gasket in any Mopar engine that I have run

If off to go buy my 99th car today 8)
Well her she is.
Just purchased after a 6 1/2 month ordeal.
One 1968 Hemi Charger R/T - 1 of 264 made with an automatic transmission. Originally red with a white top and interior. Power windows, console, power steering, power brakes. Runs and drives and is 95% complete.
Neato - document the doo-doo out of her. Ma-mopar was well known for oddities, as even a goober like me knows, thanks to ppl like the goombas that used to run MA. I miss that mag, the tech was great. :-[ :'( :( >:( >:( >:(
So, what's this one up for? Points on resto? restomod? DD?
Well I bought a new car. Well new to me.
It's a 2013 Cadillac CTS Performance Wagon. 3.6L V6 with a 6 speed automatic and 32K miles. Original sticker was $51K :o
I paid what VW is going to give me for my Passat plus $600. Makes commuting in the Bay Area so much easier.
Sweet Cthulhu that is a nice-looking car. I wish I had nice vehicle to drive. :(
Clang that thing only cost me $21,800 - a steal and as I call it GM's best kept secret
That seems pretty reasonable. My last car cost me 15k. Now the Clang-a-Son is driving it and I'm driving an old 4 thousand dollar used Ford Ranger.
I'd love to get my hands on a CTS-V. It's the perfect car in my book. Big (possibly supercharged) V-8, RWD, manual transmission, SEDAN. It's everything you need AND want!
And still looks good!
Glad your OK and the beast is OK
Tires are very important and damn if they are not expensive as all hell.
Strange how that is.
That's because the morons at Ford and Firestone created the Explorer tire fiasco. That doubled the price of tiresQA does cost money. Although going from a 14" tire to an 18" tire kinda means it is going to be more expensive. And t hen we get into the tires designed specifically for a car, that makes it even more expensive. I'll stick with my Falkens on the Focus, although the Jeep will get KM02's eventually, that is going to hurt lots.
Well the front tires in my Ranger have little cracks in them. Like the tire is breaking down or something. Plus the tires are looking like they're about worn out. They have maybe 20% tread left on them. I've been debating if I should get a couple new tires of just wait until one gives out on me.

Old tires start to crack partly due to age and partly due to UV damage etc.

True and true, but at 20% tread it's time for new tires
Hey I am thinking about getting them replaced before it's too late. Driving between Tacoma and Seattle every day is 85 to 100 miles every day at almost freeway speeds until I run into the traffic.
10 years appears to be the absolute limit for tires, regardless of how nice they look.
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11 <-- how to read date codes on tires.
IIRC from my copies of grassroots motorsports and ma, if you want to extend the life of your tires, keep them cool and OUT of the sun, even if you have to use tire covers.
Oddly, I have also heard bad things about using tire dressing and uber cleaners on tires, but that bears research and confirmation.
How much does one of those cost?
so the new tires came in.
on the way to my mechanic, I tried to smoke the old tires down.
it worked spectacularly.
right up until the RR blew out, and I had to put on the spare.
2 miles from the shop, with a bed full of brand new tires.....
...where's the facepalm emoji ?

That's too funny. ;D
Got my tire machine. Works pretty good O0
Yes but are you tired of it yet?!? ;D ;D ;D
anyone ever do a full tune up of a 4.7L V8 for the Ram?Google/youtube it. There is a wealth of information out there.
I've got two mechanics giving me horror stories that inflate the price to several hundred bucks. :(
Google/youtube it. There is a wealth of information out there.
I wonder if you can Google how to Google things.
Yes. There is a video on Youtube how to do it.
But if you can do it in the first place do you really need a video on how to do it?
Probably need a factory service manual - FSM
You know what I can't find on Youtube or ANYWHERE else? How to take the damn headliner off my car so I can remove the sunroof shade/cover thing to reupholster it properly. My frickin' Haynes Manual doesn't even mention my car might have a sunroof.
What kind of car is it? Most newer cars require speciality tools to remove the trim clips.

Another reason for me to hate sunroofs
I wonder if you can Google how to Google things.
True. But nothing, and I do mean nothing is as bad as convertibles. Especially European convertibles. I still wake up screaming some nights.
