No, it’s not that old a design. It’ll be in the RecGuides. It’s a known design, but a new name for new owners.

Ah, so the Black Python got a new name with the Classic face lift.

Kind of like how the Ruskies like to give a new number to an upgrade of an old design.   ;)

Looking at TRO GC it's actually a little surprising to me that the Wakazashi wasn't included for completeness.

Black Python, White Raven sounds like a Kung fu movie I need to see

Agreed especially because I really like that mech a well, my only real complaint so far is the Moonoose and Lancelot have KS art and that was not used they both look so much better than the old art.

I like most of Golden Century and love that most of the designs are within use. It makes me wonder how cheap Clantech is considered now. The one problem I had was with the Pella.  The background behind it is something that Clans get absorbed or annihilated for. The Cloud Cobras don't strike me as being so restrained on such a front. I'll just have to assume the Coyotes knew where the Cobras buried a dozen skeletons or so.

I just gotta say this: If you're using orbital bombardment to win a battle for five tons of potatoes, those had better be the best damn potatoes in the homeworlds.

Also the glimpse into the private life of Mercer Ravannion is absolutely glorious.
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

I have to commend the authors and powers that be, for TRO:Golden Century. I had been very worried that the book would be a treasure trove of units that would be forever trapped in the past, but they have left the door open to using so many of these in modern play.

Between that, and the ilClan Recognition Guides stoking the fortunes of the Invasion Era Omnis, I am one happy clanner :D

You're welcome.

Black Python variant's have their own name?  That's different way naming them.   (Reseen art is nice for it) but inner sphere name was Viper.

I love both TROs, thank you for the rich writing that went into both of them!

Interesting how everyone is assuming the White Raven is the Black Python, despite the only bit of information pointing to it is a joke meme that happened to be posted by someone with a Beemer.

Did I miss the memo saying that all jokes on the internet had to be factually correct?

In more important news, why did nobody tell me about the Lynx C?!? Or that its fluff is just open-ended enough for me to justify one in my Falcons?! :excited:

The fluff is open ended enough for you to justify one in your Falcons, I think.

That's what I said. :)

Best part is, I'd already decided to get a Lynx for my second-line Falcons. Now I'm still getting one, and it'll have better guns once I have it!

I mean in fairness it actually makes complete sense so I'm going to be operating under that assumption until something prods me to do otherwise.

Much of that background is taken from the BattleCorps story "Seeds of Loyalty" by Philip A. Lee, first published in 2011. The story isn't currently available in any collected editions, but then, the next volume would cover 2011, so... (strokes chin thoughtfully). I'll send Phil a note.

Which is where the speculation came from- the meme was later.  Based on the description where a 75t mech dropped pulse lasers and got slower with IIRC a SFE.  New owners?  Implies someone in the IS is not in a position to contest the appropriation of the design- so Homeworlds or dead . . . yeah, the Black Python fits the description out of the designs and its one that needed new art so . . .

I'd have to reread the section to see if it fits, but the Cave Lion from Era Digest Dark Age is 75 tons, 5/8 XL engine, and 4x MPLs. Also it'd need new owners. The Sea Foxes helped upgrade Nova Cat factories in exchange for some of the production run.

Just bought and read through the PDF for ERA Digest: Golden Century and it is a great read. I love the POV of the Mongoose section. The stats for the GC units are much appreciated too. That Wakazashi just seems beastly and does scream "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" in Jade Falcon-eze. It also seems to echo future weapon loadouts of future omnis the Falcons favor.
I can see how the variants of the early omnis try to play well together in single unit stars. The variants of the Lupus really seem to work well together. 2 prime 2 alpha and 1 bravo would be a tough unit to counter in this time period.
Oh and the warship at the end... Whoa boy.
Great book, start to finish. A lot of detail and thought went into production. Kudos! Can't wait to buy the TRO next.

Oh yeah, the other reason?  'The old Steel Viper mech' 'one of his large pulse lasers' 'usually has a array of weapons' . . . with jump jets . . . mech is described as having a 'canopy' and 'spindly leg.'
