It is one of the many reasons I don't accept Brady as the GOAT.

Well I'll be precise in my wording in that I don't mind he is in the discussion to be the GOAT, but undisputed?  No.

The only objection to this I have is that this isn't Pats front office wizardry.  It takes two to tango, and the frustrating part is how they can still find teams begging to be fleeced for dust bunnies.

Kansas City players, or people who are just passing through the area, come join us at the Geekery just off Shawnee Mission Parkway for BattleTech!  Current days are Tuesdays in the afternoon and evening.  I can't make every single week, but odds are pretty good that somebody will be there.

Yeah I watched Gronk on Masked Singer and now I'm getting bad images of how those two will celebrate every time they manage to come off the field without needing assistance.

Any bets on who throws a hip out first? :D

Rivers will throw his back out long before his hip, what with that small army he has in tow that he calls his family. :D

Eh, how is that different from all the other teams who trade picks?

Most teams don't trade 4th round picks for retired players.  It's a draft capital windfall that should frankly be impossible and the frustrating part is how consistently the Patriots manage to fleece everyone else as badly as everyone else fleeces Bill O'Brian.

Meh, Brett Farve was retired and traded for a 4th rounder. Marshawn Lynch was retired and traded for a 5th round pick. Carson Palmer was retired and traded for a 1st round pick! Besides, it's not like the Patriots could afford him with their cap situation.

According to the reports I’ve read, he didn’t want to play for NE anyway.  He unretired for the express purpose of rejoining Brady outside New England.  The Pats were never going to have him on their cap.  Also, the fact that other teams have made bad deals for retired players doesn’t really excuse the Bucs also doing so.

I have to admit just because it is virtual I am having much less interest in following the draft but so far there look to be no real surprises.

Oh, the Raiders made sure to reach and the Packers kind of caught everyone by surprise. A few other teams seemed to reach, as well.

Dalton is one of the QBs I do consider better than most people give credit for but still not terribly surprised since the Bengals got their QB of the future in Burrow.

Dalton took $3m to hold a clipboard in Dallas for a year. Incentives could raise it to $7m if he’s pressed into actually playing.

Meanwhile the bears declined Trubisky’s 2021 option. Looks like it’s full speed ahead on foles as a bridge to the Next Guy™️

It’ll be interesting to see if he does actually just hold a clipboard.  That’s an awfully strong backup. Could significantly weaken Dak’s hand.

Part of the negotiations to be sure. It makes holding out seem much more foolhardy

And if Prescott actually does end up walking (either his doing or Jerrah, pulling the tender), Dalton makes for good insurance. He's no Dak, for sure, but it beats being stuck in the spot the Colts were in last year- franchise QB is gone suddenly and no good replacement option. (Brissett, sadly, wasn't really the replacement they needed, thus Rivers' arrival)

Bonus for Dalton, he lives in Dallas. It should be interesting to see if Dallas or New Orleans (Winston) snags a decent comp pick next year when these guys try to find another starting job.

Well, the Giants and Seahawks may both be down a starting cornerback...because they robbed people at gunpoint.

Some people just can't leave the thug life behind, I guess....

two thoughts

1) i'm going to be intensely annoyed if belichick trots out a 4th round nobody and makes the playoffs

2) i wish more athletes would say The Thing out loud https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/29240242/melvin-gordon-says-chargers-home-games-prepped-playing-no-fans
