it's looking like if things go sideways it's at worst a 6yr/$185m deal (more in line with goff). there's an injury guarantee in there too but unless he performs at a high level into his mid 30s (not impossible), he'll never see the full $503m

According to Over the Cap, his next year guarantees, so he's going to get even more than that.

Quote from: Over the Cap
EDIT: Since writing the guarantee structure was reported on and it is very strong for Mahomes. Basically with the exception of the final year of the contract any release of Mahomes would require payment of his entire next years salary. For the most part he is likely virtually guaranteed to earn all but the paragraph 5 of the 2031 season. For the Chiefs there is no out unless they can convince him to agree to a trade.

yikes. he would have to decline into a truly wretched state for the chiefs to want to take that cap hit. i guess if they devolve into irrelevance (say bottom five in the league) and knew the next season was going to be 3-13 anyway, you could probably justify it.

Barring career-ending injury in the next 2-3 years, this contract absolutely looks like the kind of contract you'd give a QB you expect to be first-ballot Hall of Fame for over a decade and still have a team around him.

I have no idea how Veach managed this sorcery but holy crap it's good.

the biggest sorcery is how their cap is barely affected until ~2023. what was the burden from the contract this year? $30k? this is the triumph of new school GMing

Just over $5.3M this year, they didn't have a lot of room. The $60M cap hit in 2027 might require some belt-tightening, though. Of course, they could cut him and only have a cap hit of $105M....

I've heard within the next few years because of legalized gambling and other factors the salary cap may go up by as much as 50%. If true, this contract isn't nearly as nuts as it seems.

I'd prefer the Redwolves or Redtails.   I don't want Warriors but that appears to be the front runner.

Lmao....

Speaking of the infamous current residents of the area, I'm glad it's not going to be the Generals or the Senators or some other easy, go-to DC type of name.

The whole game is bogged down in procedure and tabled indefinitely.

Some people, the lack of historical knowledge...  It was nice to see his own teammates who called him out as well s players on other teams.

Sounds like the start of Game 27 from 17776.

They had to strike remote teleporting the ball from QB to receiver from the game that year.  No pick 6s or any other interception for half a century made the game boring and predictable.  Not to mention that careers only average 1.67 seasons by that point.

Football during a pandemic.

For the 2020/2021 season the NFL will not allow players from opposing teams to shake hands, hug, or exchange jerseys after the game.

This after they just spent the last three hours literally butting heads, with sweat, spittle, and even blood flying everywhere.  ???

Won’t really affect the rules for tackling a QB.
