Hi,
in AS:CE the hex-map rules for intervening terrain (page 70) say:
"Any terrain that lies in the hexes along the LOS between the attacker and the target—but not including the hexes actually occupied by the attacker and target—has the potential for being considered intervening terrain."
and for terrain modifiers (same page):
"As long as the intervening terrain does not block LOS (see below), intervening terrain will apply the same terrain modifiers as described in non-hex Alpha Strike play."
Example A:
Mech A is shooting at Mech B. There is one hex of wood on the LOS, adjacent to Mech B. From Mech A's perspective, Mech B is standing behind the wood
-> (MA)( )( )( )( W )(MB) - => The wood-hex gives a +1 modifier for the attack roll?
Example B:
Is there a +1 modifier if Mech B is standing on (occupying) the wood-hex?
-> (MA)( )( )( )( )(MB/W)
As far as i understand the there is no occupied terrain mentioned in the hex-map rules, occupied hexes (attacker and target) are omitted when checking on intervening terrain.

The hex-map rules for terrain modifiers also mention (page 70):
"Remember that any Alpha Strike terrain modifiers based on inches of terrain intervention must convert this effect to hexes at a rate of 2 inches per hex."
and on page 40 ("LOS"):
If terrain is occupied by the unit, the first 2” (1 hex) of that terrain extending away from the base of the unit is still considered the occupied terrain. Occupied terrain more than 2” from the base of the unit becomes intervening terrain.
Does that mean that not only the hex the target is standing on is occupied terrain but also all terrain 1 hex away from the on it is standing on?
For the example A and B this would mean that the wood-hex gives a +1 modifier when it is 2 hex away from the attacker and no +1 if it is adjacent to the hex the attacker is standing on?
-> (MA)( )( W )( )( )(MB) => +1
-> (MA)( W )( )( )( )(MB) => +0
