XTRO: Primitives, Vol 1:

Page 3: COM-1A Commando:

The following claim is made: "...the Commando
represented a marked departure from previous Commonwealth
designs such as the Ymir and Crossbow."
However, according to both TRO:3075 and ED:Age of War, the Crossbow debuted in 2468, five years after the Commando.

Suggested Fix:
Change Crossbow to Mackie, if the Lyrans made their own copies, otherwise rewrite the sentence.

1) The Aquilla's structural mass is inadequate to mount so 80 tons of primitive armor, unless "primitive WarShip structures" are markedly heavier than standard structures. At SI 10, it has a structural mass of (100,000 tons x SI 10 / 1000) = 1,000 tons (per pg148 StratOps). The maximum armor mass (per pg152 StratOps) is 1 ton of armor per 50 tons of structure, limiting the Aquilla to 20 tons of primitive armor, not the listed 80 tons.

My suggested fix is to reduce the armor to 20 tons. I'm not sure what the protection per ton of primitive armor is, but you'd only have 16 points from standard armor (plus 1 per facing from the SI of 10). Including the bonus, it looks like you could manage approximately 3 nose, 3 rear, 2 each side, depending on the exact value of primitive armor for 100,000-ton spacecraft.

2) Also, the Aquilla is light - assuming standard equipment. I get a total of about 93,500 tons. Suggested fix: add approx. 3,250 tons to each of the cargo bays once the vessel is re-totaled.

Alternately, could the Aquilla's TRO be marked like primitive ground units with which items are primitive, like "Armor: (Primitive)"?

but newest Ares Mark IX Attack Craft, which have an art not even close to VIILC, been fluffed as "The ship is based on the ancient Ares Mark I small craft, produced in the 25th Century"

Experimental Technical Readout: Primitives, Vol 1, pdf, page 5:

The Shadow Hawk SHD-1R has an introduction year of 2457, and mounts jump-jets, even if:
A) The Wasp-1 in XTRO:Primitives, Vol 2, page 3 is fluffed as the first mech with jump-jets, and has an introduction year of 2464.
B) The Era Digest: Age of War, page 11 gives an introduction year of 2467 for the Shadow Hawk.

Suggested solution:

Change introduction year of the Shadow Hawk to 2467.

Hello,
I am not certain if this is errata.
I was surprised by the artwork for the TDR-1C Thunderbolt on page 7 of "Primitives, vol. 3" (but please do not misunderstand, this is not a statement of disappointment).  Fluff-wise, the left-torso cockpit was described in TRO: Project Phoenix as a new feature to protect the cockpit from Gauss Rifle explosions (p. 42 in "capabilities"), and away from the fluff, I thought only the SDF Macross designs were forbidden now.  Is the left torso placement erroneous, intentionalp, or is the classic Thunderbolt unseen again?

XTRO:Primitives Vol. II
Page 15, Black Eagle DropShip:

This is a 4500 ton DropShip that was supposedly introduced (prototype) in 2453.

Problem: Until 2458, JumpShips could only carry DropShuttles of up to 4,000 tons in internal bays. The classic hardpoint/docking collar combination with K-F booms was only developed in 2458, according to the fluff for the Liberty JumpShip (XTRO:Primitives Vol. III), or even 2470 according to MercSuppII.
The Black Eagle as statted could not have been in regular production before the production of JumpShips that could carry it, namely the Liberty which was expressly named as the first JumpShip class (and began production in 2461).

Suggestion:
1) Since there was an earlier conception for the Black Eagle as a conventional forces carrier, that older concept must have massed no more than 4,000 tons.
2) Change introduction date for the for the Black Eagle as statted to 2461. (This would make it the first designated 'Mech carrier DropShip designed for JumpShip operations; the older Manatee must have been a refit series of existing DropShuttles with K-F docking collars.)

XTRO:Primitives VVolume IV page 4: SWD-1 Swordsman

Problem: cites the Terran March prince as Mikhail Rostov, grandfather of Dimitri Rostov who ruled the March during the Davion Civil War. However Rostov's father was elevated to rule the March in 2515, replacing the Leightan family who were wiped out in a Terran Hegemony raid on Robinson (see House Davion pg 41, The Regency.)

Solution: change "Terran March Prince and Jerricho’s principal stockholder, Mikhail Rostov" to "House Leightan, who ruled the Terran March and were Jerricho’s principal stockholders"; change "disloyalty shown by Dmitri Rostov—grandson of Prince Mikhail Rostov—during the war" to "attempted coup by Dmitri Rostov—whose family had replaced the extinct Leightans—during the war".

P. 4 Swordsman
Introduction Date: 2463

a fact that ensured a handful of the Federated Suns’ third home-grown BattleMech design (behind the Battleaxe and the Wolverine) would remain in service until the Amaris Civil War.

Per TR3039 p. 290 the Wolverine was introduced by the SLDF in 2575
per TR3075 p. 226 the Hammerhands was introduced by the FS in 2475  "Achernar debuted the Federated Sun's second exclusive design the Hammerhands in 2475."

While it is possible that FS introduced a mech called the Wolverine, there is to date no evidence of it.  There are several solutions:
1) Change the sentence in Primatives IV to be: a fact that ensured a handful of the Federated Suns’ third home-grown BattleMech design (behind the Battleaxe and the Hammerhands) would remain in service until the Amaris Civil War..
The introduction date would also need to be changed to after 2475.
2) change Primatives IV to:
a fact that ensured a handful of the Federated Suns’ second home-grown BattleMech design (behind the Battleaxe) would remain in service until the Amaris Civil War.
and change TR3075 to:
"Achernar debuted the Federated Sun's third exclusive design the Hammerhands in 2475."

XTRO Primitives Volume IV, page 4: SWD-1 Swordsman
Problem: the entry makes a number of references to the AFFS (Armed Forces of the Federated Suns, although it never spells out the abbreviation), begin with describing the design as being commissioned for the AFFS' rapidly growing BattleMech corps. The AFFS didn't come into being until Alexander Davion's reforms of the Federated Suns following the end of the Davion Civil War in 2540, eighty years after the commissioning of the Swordsman in the 2450s.

Solution: replace "AFFS" with "FPF" for Federated Peacekeeping Forces, which as per House Davion (The Federated Suns) p. 25 and Handbook: House Davion p. 20 was the state military of the Federated Suns prior to the formation of the AFFS. Given that the FPF history is only really detailed in two books, it would probably be worth spelling out the abbreviation the first time it's used in the article, as I doubt everyone is familiar with it.

Just to correct this errata - the last Prince of the Terran March before Nikolai Rostov was Charles Leighton, not Leightan, as per Handbook: House Davion, p. 37, "Timeline: Revolution and Civil War" and Handbook: House Davion, p. 31, "Council of Regents".

The design has the quirk "Obsolete (2504)" The problem is that the RFL-1 wasn't introduced until 2504, and the fluff states that the design served "Through the end of the Reunification War"

Suggest changing it to 2604.

Page 16, Aquilla class JumpShip entry.

Problems:  Ship mounts two AC/5 autocannons, despite introduction date of ship being 2148, fully 100+ years before prototype AC/5s.  Construction does not appear to adhere to current Primitive JumpShip construction rules, as found in Interstellar Operations

Recommendation: Revise stat block to correspond to Interstellar Operation's Aquilla stat block and construction example found under Primitive JumpShip Construction, pages 128-131.  This will remove the AC/5s from the stat block, reduce the number of gunners from 12 to 2, reduce the number of officers from 13 to 12, and add a DropShuttle bay with 1 door, modifying the cargo bays according to the construction example.

XTRO Primitives V, page 7 and 21. The fluff text for the primitive orion mentions that the ON1-C carried an SRM-4 in addition to its other weapons. The record sheet for the ON1-C lacks this missile launcher.

Fix: Either remove the reference in the fluff or add the SRM 4 to the record sheet.

Page 13. The colt medium fighter is listed as having five external stores hardpoints in both the TRO entry and the record sheet. Forty ton fixed wing support vehicles can only carry 4 external stores hardpoints.

Fix: Remove one external stores hardpoint.

Page 32. The record sheet for the Leviathan Jumpship describes it as a primitive technology vessel. This does not appear  to be the case, as a primitive jumpship of that size would have less armor and more crew.

Fix: Remove the primitive label from the record sheet.

From XTRO Primitives Vol V, p. 6, "ARC-1A Archer, Overview", mid-4th paragraph:

"Praised for its reliability and ease of maintenance, the ARC-1A remained the Hegemony standard for more than a decade and a half before technological progress enabled Earthwerks to produce the more efficient ARC-2R model, which debuted in 2475."

MUL, TRO 3039, p. 296, and TRO 3025 (original, FASA), p. 92 says 2474.

p. 8, "BWP-X1 Ymir, Overview", mid-2nd paragraph:

"While its armament drew on the Mackie’s arsenal as a template, pairing a class-5 autocannon with a large laser in opposite arms, the greater amount of overall tonnage available for weapons enabled the Ymir’s designers mounted a veritable hodge-podge of weapons to cover a wide range of battlefield conditions."

"Although Norse BattleMech Works would introduce a more potent variant in 2490 (the WVR-3R shown at right, traded in three tons of armor and a ton of autocannon rounds for the addition of a shoulder-mounted six-pack SRM launche), this iconic machine would not be fully upgraded to modern standards until Kallon Industries bought the rights to the chassis from NBW, and introduced the WVR-6R model in 2575."

XTRO Primitives, Vol 5, latest pdf version, Page 5, "WVR-1R Wolverine"

Problem: the entry makes a number of references to the AFFS (Armed Forces of the Federated Suns, although it never spells out the abbreviation), beginning with describing the Norse BattleMech Works grabbing the contract ahead of companies in the Capellan March, in part due to implicit support from First Prince Ellen Davion. The AFFS didn't come into being until Alexander Davion's reforms of the Federated Suns following the end of the Davion Civil War in 2540, seventy years after the commissioning of the Wolverine in the 2460s/70s.

XTR:Primitives, Vol. III, p. 11, "Alacorn":

Gauss Rifles didn’t go into production until 2590.  TM p219. We lost production, not prototype, dates (unless the unit was only ever a prototype). So the Alacorn VI has to be 2590.  Have to check on the III and IV. Those will likely change.

Problem: Since the Gauss Rifle was introduced in 2590, a few of the dates in the Alacorn description have to be adjusted. These still have to conform to Alacorn entries in both TR:3058 (p. 74) and TR:3058U (p. 202).

TR:3058- "The Alacorn dates back to the Star League—The New Earth Trading Company delivered the first Alarcorns to the SLDF in 2587."
TR:3058U- "New Earth Trading Company delivered the first Alacorns to the original SLDF in 2587."

MUL and XTR:Primitives, Vol III identifies these first SLDF deliveries as Alacorn Mks III and IV. However, the dates in XTR:Primitives do not correspond to weapons development or to the MUL.

Solution: Alter the following lines-
"The HAF passed on the Alacorn, but the company revisited the design a decade later,..."
to
"The HAF passed on the Alacorn, but the company revisited the design two decades later,..."

"...but NETC soon rolled out what is now known as the standard Alacorn Mk. VI—mounting three of the still-experimental, but massively powerful Gauss rifles—in 2587."

I think you may have forgotten to switch for the fact that the 2N is an intro design, whereas the 1N preceding it is Primitive. The armor factor is 120, with standard armor that comes out to 7.5 tons.

Well it looks like SSW set the armor to "industrial" without my knowledge as I built the sheet from a RFL-3N so hooray for that... That also corrected the problem and I can stop wondering how it got messed up.

Having not seen a definitive answer above, I ran the ON1-C through the primitive construction rules (Jihad Secrets: Blake Documents) and determined that it does not have the SRM. The 360 engine takes up so much mass (33 tons) that 14.5 tons of armor, 2 medium lasers, and a AC/5 with a single ton of ammo brings it to 75 tons.

The record sheet is correct and the fluff is wrong.
