Problems with MegaMek 0.49.8 and 0.49.14
« on: 16 September 2023, 05:37:32 »
So, downloaded the latest, but no matter how I instill which JDK, MekHQ and MegaMek won't open.  MegaMekLab opens, but I get an error opening a 'Mech in it.  Earlier versions of MegaMek seem to work fine.

I'm sure I'm missing something stupid, any idea what?

I know there are some specific problems unzipping it with windows built in zip. I know there are problems if you unzip it to the desktop. And I know that they really prefer the adoptium java with  reboot in the middle. Also, I presume you are doing a clean install - no old files in the same location.

For the install, I have a "Games" folder which includes several past versions of MegaMek, but I unzipped them into their own folders.  So no, no previous files the unzip was overwriting.

I did initially unzip it with built-in Windows, then read that there were issues and did it again with 7zip, same result.  And the 0.49.8 was pre-existing when I migrated everything from my old computer to my new AlienWare, and it also doesn't work.

And I did get the Adoptium java, both 11 and 17, instilling both or one at a time, neither lets .8 or .14 open.  Older versions do open.

New problem.  Older versions of MekHQ and MegaMek seem to work, but trying to start a MegaMek game from MekHQ causes immediate disconnection from server.
