Amazing job!!!
(Was actually the inspiration I had for my Omega (minus the "tattoos") ;D.
Now to think up something else... XD.
But may I ask how you got the gray to turn out so well? I picked up the darkest gray I got from my LGS, but you still can't tell it from the gray primer I used (use white for light base shades and gray for dark bases). Wanted to follow the very dark (almost black) gray used in the pic.
Hmm, that might be tough. I got very sick of the way Citadel grays dried up, and Vallejo grays tended to separate, so I tried some Delta Ceramcoat grays. Eh, they were on sale. Turned out better than I expected. Delta can be okay if you thin the crap out of it.
I started with a black undercoat, then applied the last of my Vallejo grays. Sadly, as I long ago squeezed it out of it's horrendously useless eye dropper bottle into an empty Citadel pot, I don't remember the exact name. It's an extremely dark gray, and I believe it was from the Model Color line, not the Game Color. It might have been Black Gray, or something. I applied that to the panels, leaving the black in the recesses.
The first highlight was the Delta Storm Gray, which is only a tad bit lighter than the base coat. I discovered something interesting about Deltas. When you water them down, they don't behave like normal paint. I found you can push them around on the figure and pool them where you want. At first it was annoying and hard to do, but once I realized that this technique produced the smoothest transition outside of wet-blending, I tried really hard to make it work! I did the same with Delta Rain Gray over the higher points, like the upper torso areas, and used Delta Quaker gray for the extreme edges.
As I said, it took a lot of time to do, and lots of practice to get the Delta colors to behave the way I wanted. It was worth it, and now I have learned a new blending technique. I've picked up a few more Delta colors to see if I can get them to work the same way. I've always hated Deltas and still think they're too thick and weak for base coating, but if this works for more colors than just gray, I'll be adding them to my palette.
