3mm 1.5mm or .8mm
Picked up a few of the 3mm as they were sold as singles but looking to buy a larger set. Wondering what most use or recommend.

I've never tried them, but Gamecraft Miniatures sells some laser cut matboard ones purposed for Battletech -

. That's the closest I've seen to actual wood hex bases. I'd probably go thicker - either the 1.5 or 3mm to ensure the base won't break easily.

3mm thickness equals a filled base, so it is best used for miniatures without own hexbase.
1.5mm thickness could work with other minis owning their own hexbase (the usual ones).
0.8mm thickness is really thin and thus tends to break. I would not recommend these.

I used Litko's 1.5mm clear acrylic bases in 1", 1.5", 2" & 3". It appears they are no longer on their website, but I'm sure they can still make them if you ask.
