Senior Strategos for the CCAF: "The rat bastard! He tricked us!"
Junior Strategos in a panic: "You mean he HAS invaded us?!"
Senior Strategos: "No! That's what tricked us... The rat bastard..."
Second Junior Strategos: "I wouldn't mention the R word around the Chancellor... He's already jumpy as hell..."
Senior Strategos: "Good point. I'll tell the Chancellor the danger has passed..."
Junior Strategos: "Unless it's all part of an elaborate trap and he's going to invade right after his honeymoon..."
Senior Strategos and Second Junior Strategos: "You rat bastard..."

"He hasn´t invaded us TODAY. What if he invades us tomorrow?"

A Dothraki Davion wedding without at least three deaths declarations of war is considered a very dull affair  :P

3068 - August - Bad News

The First Prince had spent most of the end of July on "honeymoon" albeit a honeymoon that involved daily updates from various military officers and government officials about the escalating situation across the entire Inner Sphere. However as of the 1st of August he was officially back at work, although with one major change. Whereas before Duchess Isis Marik had been a semi-constant adviser who attended meetings at which the First Prince wished her to be at, now Duchess Isis Davion was an almost semi-permanent presence within most meetings with the First Prince. The only real exception was military briefings at which the Duchess herself would point out she could rarely have any real input. She did however prove to have a number of extremely useful insights on the inner workings of the Capellan Confederation not only on the civilian side but often on who the military advisers were that Sun-Tzu Liao actually listens to.

In the meantime the First Prince and his military advisers in the High Command continued to build up troops in the Achernar and Nanking PDZ's. The 39th Avalon Hussars RCT moved from Kentares to the border world of Algol, while the 17th Avalon Hussars RCT moved to Bharat. The 4th Davion Guard's RCT also shifted from Galtor to Sheraton. To almost all those watching this was a clear buildup that the First Prince could unleash as his own version of his father's Operation Rat. Worse from the point of view of the Capellan Confederation there was little they could do to counter it. The entire Liao Commonality was in chaos, with the resistance movements now almost at the point of open rebellions, while their own troops were either already committed to trying to keep a lid on the situation or diverted to pursue the conquest of Andurien. A handful of worlds such as Liao continued to show stalwart support for the government on Sian and seemed immune to the efforts of the Davion's to cause chaos, but these worlds were few and far between.

The fact that these movements of troops to the Capellan border were largely a cover to get them into position for the strike against the WOB was lost on almost everyone. After all it made perfect sense for the AFFS to begin preparing to invade the Confederation to almost everyone who knew even the most basic history of not only the realms but also the two rulers... Certainly the Chancellor was firmly of the view that the First Prince was preparing to invade his realm and called out to the SLDF and the First Lord Mansdottir to support his realm. The only reply he got was Christian Mansdottir informing him he was no longer First Lord and the SLDF informing him that they would not move unless the First Lord told them too...

Near the end of August the First Prince himself left New Avalon and headed for his forward command post for the coming fighting of Tikonov. With him went the 1st Davion Guards RCT as his personal unit. A small detachment of the 1st Guards would remain on New Avalon with Duchess Isis.

Thus it was left to Duchess Isis Davion to announce on the 31st August that the Federated Sun's had formally grown by 3 further worlds. The worlds of Resurgence and Fox's Den had formally received their first colonists and were now being admitted to the Federated Suns as full member worlds alongside the nearby periphery world of Cooperland. For the time being these worlds would be grouped within the rather ill defined "Periphery Combat Region", however she informed the listening media that in time it was likely that this would be formally split and recognised as 2 further Combat Regions of the Crucis March, the first centred on Tortuga and the second probably on Cooperland. One point she was happy to make was that these would be the first worlds added to any Successor State by colonisation rather than war since the fall of the First Star League.

On Firgrove the Firgrove Consortuim's aerospace fighter line to produce the updated heavy Vulcan fighter begins producing it's first fighters. These are snapped up by both the ComGuards and AFFS who begin evaluating them to see whether or not they are a viable and useful design.

At Kirklin the Kallon plant see's the new Enforcer III line enter full production. While Kirklin has long been a major supplier of vehicles for the AFFS the new battlemech lines are adding to it's value. It now produces not only the Enforcer III but also the Crusader and Penetrator battlemech's for the AFFS.

The Jalastar Aerospace factory on Palmyra finishes it's construction during August. It now has 4 dedicated lines for constructing Javelin-O omnimech's and is one of the most modern and efficient factories within the entire Federated Suns. Alongside the production lines for full battlemech's is a large scale spare parts facility which provides the AFFS with ample kits to not only maintain the Javelin-O's that it buys but also refit and repair them even in the face of almost total destruction.

Johnston Industries see's it's new Thunderbolt NAIS line go operational in August as well. This if the first of the new factory lines to go operational (although the existing Thunderbolt line at Tikonov has already been upgraded to the NAIS specifications) and the orders are soon coming thick and fast.

GM see's the Cestus line at Victoria go online at the same time. This line has been part of the redundancy plan that the High Command and Federated Sun's Government has been pushing most of the major industrial companies to follow. With the memories of the Succession Wars, nobody is keen to see a vital design lost to a single strike.

The prolonged negotiations between New Independence Weaponry and DefHes finally complete. For a large cash transfer and a license to produce the Victor battlemech, DefHes agree's to allow New Independence Weaponry to produce the Zeus battlemech at 2 locations within the Federated Suns but only for domestic sale. Immediately work begins at the companies Kestrel and Tikonov factories to put this design into production.

Ranger Battlemech's of Verde who are producing the Shadow Hawk battlemech mostly for the mercenary community announce that they have obtained a license to produce the Warhammer class battlemech from the Federated Sun's Government and will begin work on a facility to produce the new battlemech and hope to have it in production by December 3069.

With the movements of more and more AFFS troops to his borders Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao is feeling apprehensive. Worse with the fighting on the Andurien front beginning to see-saw back and forth he can't draw his troops down on that front. In fact he frankly needs more troops to push onward to victory. This results in him personally going to the world of Menke in August to meet with the officers of McCarron's Armoured Cavalry and Lord Marcus Baxter. Repeated attempts to redeploy McCarron's Armoured Cavalry from Menke had met with stonewalling by the brigade who seemed to have no intent to actually leave Menke on the orders of Sian. Only the 4th McCarron's Armoured Cavalry regiment was currently off world, posted to Ares as it had been for some years. The other rebuilding regiments were all still garrisoning their homeworld.

Faced with such intransigence the Chancellor would usually dispatch his Death Commando's or MASK agents, but with his current shortage of troops and the huge prestige of the unit he feels obligated to go to Menke to resolve the issues personally. In a 6 hour long meeting with Lord Baxter and his officers he is forced to make concessions. Concessions that leave him furious, but regain him control over the semi-rebellious unit. Not only does the Chancellor have to make economic concession's to help rebuild the world of Menke from the damage inflicted during the recent FedSun's invasion, he is also forced to promise them a replacement for lost Mitchel. No lesser world than Andurien itself is to be granted to Lord Baxter as his new fief. Along with ruler ship over a reinstated Andurien Commonality as it's overall leader. To say this is more than Sun-Tzu was willing to pay is a massive understatement, but in return Lord Baxter promises to lead his own command battalion as well as the 1st and 3rd McCarron's Armoured Cavalry to Andurien and to secure it in Sun-Tzu's name. A heavy price for 2 regiments worth of troops, but one Sun-Tzu feels he needs to pay. As an insurance the Chancellor orders the 2nd Sian Dragoons to leave Menke and accompany Lord Baxter.

Within the Grand Duchy itself the 2nd Defenders of Andurien are forced to leave their hard held positions on Lopez and head for Andurien. While Lopez is a vital world, it will mean nothing to hold onto it if Andurien herself falls to the invaders. They quickly move to Andurien and find themselves used to fight a mobile campaign against the 1st and 2nd Magistracy Highlanders to prevent them seizing even more of the world.

At Baroda the 1st Capellan Chargers launch a full scale assault into the mercenary formations who are holding the siege lines of the planet. Jaffray's Own meet them head on and in a horrendously bloody fight manage to throw them back into the city badly mauled. The mercenary command's battalion is reduced to a single company of battlemech's while their attached company of Andurien natives is effectively wiped out. Worse from the point of view of the command structure is Colonel Jaffray's own battlemech is destroyed and he is left at death's door and is medically evacuated to Jojoken. The remainder of the battalion folds into the 1st Kearny Highlanders. While some thought was given to returning them to the Northwind Hussars there is still a great deal of bad feeling between the former comrades. The Charger's who had been at half strength before their breakout attempt are reduced to 2 damaged companies of battlemechs in this fight.

The 2nd Liao Guard and 7th Sian Dragoons, taking lesson's from the brutal break out attempt of the Chargers begin a series of probes, stretching the Highlander's lines thin. Using their interior lines they begin a slow and gradual erosion of the Highlanders ability to hold the entire perimeter. On several occasions they have the opportunity to break the siege, but don't do so deliberately. They know such a breakout will end in a bloody battle and are content to merely keep the Highlanders pressed while awaiting reinforcements...

The 4th Tau Ceti Rangers, swiftly pacifying Wallacia largely due to their reputation of honourable treatment of defeated foes, move on from Wallacia and strike out at Mosiro. The 4th Defenders of Andurien, who are still forming up, along with the planetary militia attempt to defend their world but are soon crushed by the veteran Rangers. Worse from the point of view of the rest of the Grand Duchy the other two worlds of the former Mosiro Archiplegos immedietly surrender to the Capellan Confederation rather than face invasion...

On Conquista the 3rd Defenders of Andurien and their local allies continue to hunt the 3rd Liao Guard. While the Defenders have a slight numerical edge and are of a higher skill level the 3rd Liao Guard manages to stay just one step ahead for now.

The only bright news coming to the embattled defenders of the Grand Duchy are reports that Korsakov's Cossack's have struck again. This time they have crossed the border into the Confederation and smashed into the staging world of Shiba. Hitting the planet before the few defenders can properly mobilise they Cossack's seize huge stocks of equipment and ammunition before sending it back into the Grand Duchy to help supply their allies. What they cant use themselves or send back they destroy before leaving the world one step ahead of the Shin Legion. Even with them unable to hold the world in the face of Capellan reprisals, the Cossack's have in a single action cut the flow of supplies for the invading troops in half until a new supply depot can be built up.

With the Capellan Confederation picking off isolated worlds near Andurien the world of Ipswich formally petitions to join the Duchy of Oriente and is accepted. The 6th Oriente Hussars is dispatched to garrison the world to prevent any attacks.

Chancellor Sun-Tzu receives one final piece of bad news as August comes to a close... The CCS Edmund Salindar the latest Feng Huang cruiser was missing. During it's trial's the ship had jumped out of the Capellan system where it had been built... And not returned.

Most likely the Word of Blake. MIIO is more internal intelligence/operations than international operations. For the FedSuns, that would have to be an operation under DMI or the Department of Military Intelligence probably DMI6 with a Rabid Fox Team with DMI4 Stealth Fox. The problem is that a lot of those elements are probably tied up in Liao Commonality and getting into position against the Word of Blake.

Then again, it could be the St. Ives Compact.

Sunny Boy is between a rock and a hard place.
When WOB made him that offer maybe he should have informed Victor, but whom could he trust with such a message if WOB knew about the mechs?
And Victor would have surely demanded those mechs back.
(And the question is: What would have Sun-Tzu gotten in return? Some loot the Davions took, a guarantee that Victor would let live Sun Tzu a few more days or what? And Victor would have demanded that Sun Tzu does remove his soldiers from the planets of the former FWL.)

Now, he is committed and must ride the tiger. Hoping that the tiger doesnt throw him off and eats him.
He should really have behaved himself and rebuild the CC and develop all worlds of the CC and then looking at the uninhabited systems try to colonize them.

Well kali and her mad bunch just made off with a warship probably with WoB help to. Kali with a warship along with her insane cult even though it was decimated has gone to rather frightening on the British scale of understatement fairly quickly.

The theft though means that everyone will be on high alert and with it the already strained CCAF becomes even more taught.

Oh crap, I hadn´t thought of THAT possibility. Crazy Kali and her band of Merry Murdering Madmen, with a warship at their disposal? I think people will wish themselves back to when they only had to worry about Thuggee with nerve gas.

Kali has this weird loyalty to her brother, she is probably blaming everyone but him. Still, her having a heavy cruiser increases her mass murder potential manyfold. So let us hope it was merely a missjump due to shipyard cutting corners to finish it faster. But it probably isn't.

The issue is if Kali made off with the warship is were will she home port it? The crew is going to need food and equipment to keep the ship running as well as fuel.

This rules out quite a few systems and even if it was in a dead system people are going to start to notice a lot of food and equipment disappearing somewhere.

IF this was Kali, big if, given that she's working hand in glove with the Word of Blake now, I don't think we have to wonder about her not having logistical support.
She may be heading for Highspire, but more likely she's heading for one of the hidden worlds for now to assemble her cult into something like her own personal Shadow Division like she did in canon. And she'll reappear at the worst possible time on terror raids or something. They may or may not have mass quantities of chemical weapons left - the Davions were rather direct in their attacks to try and destroy every stockpile and collapse every mountain redoubt after all, but I'm sure she can be a pain in the ass some other way if necessary...

Andurien looks like its coming to a head. The reinforcements Victor sent in let them hold the line, but the Highlanders must be starting to get close to 'bug out' time unless more reinforcements arrive. And arrive soon. And when the Big MAC arrive, they'll be in a position to break the situation pretty decisively.

Still, the rest of the FWL must be getting a bit ansty. Sure none of them were happy with Andurien declaring independence, but in a practical sense its hardly any different to what the other provinces did, even if politically it IS a different thing. I mean, surely none of them are going to be at all happy with the Crappies taking Andurien off the FWL like this?
I wonder if you MIGHT see Oriente offer some more material support to Andurien, to keep them in the fight if nothing else and bank a favor with them (and indirectly with the Davions and Isis??). Or even

Still, I'd be surprised if they are able to hold out very much longer. OTOH the 'quick and clean' war Sun Tzu wanted has turned into yet another disaster, costing him a lot of men and manpower, humiliating concessions to the Big MAC and any pretenses of being an ally to the Free Worlds League (whatever form it takes) meaning he now has NO secure borders...

Poor bastard can't get a break :D

3068 - September - War

Reports from the Confederation caused a major concern for the First Prince and the High Command during September. A large number of Capellan aerospace assets up to and including warships were suddenly rushing from system to system with no discernible pattern or reason. Only a single Feng Huang class cruiser remained stationary over Sian, with the rest of the Capellan Navy seemingly engaged in a complex war game or exercise. The final conclusion of the AFFS's analysts was that the Confederation was attempting to "loose" a number of warships in preparation for war with the Federated Suns or to strike against Andurien. As far as they could tell it was the only logical reason for such bizarre behaviour and the Federated Sun's Navy did their best to keep track of the various Capellan warships - although they have to admit to having totally lost sight of at least one Feng Huang cruiser, the newly commissioned CCS Edmund Salindar which has totally disappeared. Still they are able to keep track of roughly where most of the Capellan Confederation's warship fleet is. When war came, the Federated Sun's Navy's first mission would be to hunt them down and crush them using overwhelming local superiority.

As part of these plans the 1st Corvette Flotilla, now reinforced to 12 corvettes, moved from their reserve position within the Crucis March into the Achernar and Nanking PDZ along with the First Princes's own escorting 1st Cruiser Squadron where they join with the single ship 4th Cruiser Squadron and the under strength 2nd Destroyer Squadron. The 1st Destroyer Squadron along with the Capellan March based 2nd Corvette Flotilla's 2nd Division move into the Valexa PDZ. The 1st Patrol Squadron move up from Cooperland and along with the 3rd Cruiser Squadron and 1st Division of the 2nd Corvette Flotilla begin patrolling and guard duties at key worlds within the Capellan March. The FSS Morgan Hasek-Davion deploys to Tikonov with the 1st Cruiser Squadron. While it's fighter wings are still training in carrier operations they are now felt to be sufficiently experienced to face combat operations if required. Their back up wings are left in place at Kathil to give this key world additional protection. Strikes are planned at the known location of all Capellan warships the minute war is declared. The 6th Corvette Flotilla moves into the Sirdar PDZ.

The timing of this is causing Fleet Admiral Buchwald some frustration. In just another year the Federated Sun's Navy will be significantly reinforced and better able to manage the threat posed by the Capellan warships. He is expecting 14 Fox II corvettes, 8 Davion destroyer, 3 Avalon Cruisers, 2 Congress-D II frigates and 3 New Syrtis carriers to commission at some point in 3069. The carriers in particular would give the FedSun's a major increase in combat power in any naval engagements. In comparison the entire Capellan Navy consists of now 6 cruisers, 3 destroyers and now 4 corvettes. He has reliable intelligence that the Capellan's expect to commission an additional cruiser and 4 more corvettes in '69 compared to his own 30 warships. The balance of power is only shifting more and more in the favour of the AFFS and the longer the war can be held off the stronger the Federated Suns will be in comparison to the Capellan Confederation in the eyes of the Fleet Admiral.

This fact is not lost on any of the rest of the High Command nor upon the First Prince. Even a delay of a single year will result in a much stronger Federated Sun's Navy and an even greater disparity between the steadily expanding Regular Army and the CCAF. A delay of 2 years in active combat operations will result in the first of the Federated Sun's new battleships being in commission.

However these considerations collapse when on the 19th of September the CCS Edmund Salindar reappears. Repainted in black and red the huge cruiser, now named the Avatar of Kali appears at an incredibly risky pirate point almost on top of St Ives itself just beyond the moon of Cochrane, wrecking the ships jump engines in the jump. However the ship itself remains intact and heads straight for the planet. If there were any doubts of the ships hostile intent it fires on every dropship within range with it's naval lasers and destroys 2 small scientific outposts on the moon almost in passing. The only communications except from weapon's fire is droning chanting to the Death Goddess Kali being transmitted on every frequency. As it rounds the moon it launches it's 6 dropships, 4 of them are Overlord class troop transports but the remaining 2 are Vengeance class carriers and along with the ship's own fighters they disgorge over 100 fighters.

Defending aerospace fighters and dropships rush to meet the oncoming behemoth even as summons of aid are sent out to any and all nearby St Ives and Federated Sun's commands. The fighters used by the attacking wings are of an unknown types and are piloted be seemingly elite pilots who crash into the defending fighter wings of the 1st St Ives Lancers, St Ives Academy Training Group and an independent aerospace regiment. The numbers are roughly equal but the invaders have an edge in skill and technology on all but the single wing of fighters from the Lancers. The assault dropships and 2 Overlord A-3 pocket warships bought from the FedSun's attempt to break through the dogfight and reach the Avatar of Kali but the ship turn and opens up on them with a full broadside smashing them into pieces. The Avatar of Kali manages to reach orbit of St Ives with only light damage and immedietly begins to bombard the capital of Tian-tan. Broadside after broadside crash into the city, particularly the areas around the Ducal Palace.

Early reports are that Duchess Candace Allard-Liao, her daughter Kuan-yin Allard-Liao, daughter-in-law Deiddre Lear and 2 grandchildren David Lear and Melissa Allard-Liao had managed to reach the bunkers under the palace, but the bombardment continues relentlessly and soon all contact is lost. The last reports are that the sustained bombardment was causing some cave in's throughout the bunkers. Again and again the fighters of the St Ives defenders throw themselves at the Avatar of Kali but their attacks are broken up by the ship's escorting fighters. The handful that make it through the escorts are too few to destroy the ship, although the ship is heavily damaged when a single Lightning class aerospace fighter closes to suicidal range and manages to launch a nuclear tipped missile at the ship's port side. The Avatar, bleeding air and clearly heavily damaged rolls ship and continues the bombardment from it's undamaged starboard guns.

Even as the fighters battle to destroy the huge cruiser raining death down onto the city of Tian-tan the Duke of St Ives is leading his own 1st St Ives Lancers to meet the incoming battlemech forces which conduct a combat drop onto the cities spaceport. Although all 4 of the Overlords have suffered light damage they have largely been ignored by the defending aerospace fighters who have concentrated understandably on the cruiser. This has allowed them to reach atmosphere and drop their 4 battalions of battlemechs relatively unmolested.

As soon as the last of the "Warrior Houses" Rakshasa and White Tiger have jumped from the Overlords the ships engines go to full power. However they aren't attempting to reach orbit again, instead all 4 dropships turn their armoured noses towards the Ducal Palace and red line their engines, turning themselves into nearly 10,000 ton kinetic missiles...

Duke Kai Allard-Liao advances on the descending Thuggee cultists even as behind him any hope that his family are still alive disappears in the 4 huge fireballs where his home once stood. Considered by almost everyone to be the finest mechwarrior in existence he throws himself at the Thuggee's with a reckless fury that removes the self doubts which usually limit him and turns him into something resembling an unstoppable force of nature. Unfortunately the Thuggee's had known that if he was not at the palace he would respond in this way and have taken preparations. Every single LRM missile in their battlemech's launchers are tipped with nerve gas obtained from their shattered temples on Highspire while their battlemechs have been treated to resist the nerve agent and they themselves have been issued neutralising agents to administer to themselves just prior to combat. They have no intention to fight a warrior like Kai Allard-Liao in a "fair fight" and instead blanket his position in LRM fire. Through the fire Yen-Lo-Wang comes staggering as behind the iconic battlemech the charging 1st Battalion of the St Ives Lancers falter and fall to the nerve agent. Even as his troops die behind him the Duke of St Ives's battlemech crashes to the ground and lies still. Just in case and showing an almost superstitious dread of the former Champion of Solaris an entire company of Warrior House Rakshasa pour fire into the recumbent Yen-Lo-Wang until it's reactor overlords and explodes.

With the Duke dead and the 1st Lancers gutted by nerve agent tipped missiles the 4 battalions of Thuggee fanatics run rampage through the city of Tien-tan, firing into businesses, shops and homes as they hunt down and destroy any remaining defenders. The casualties skyrocket as they continue to fire nerve agent filled missiles into fleeing crowds and packed refugee columns. When they finally run out of missiles they continue to massacre anyone they can with conventional weaponry. However when their missiles run out they are struck by the remnants of the 1st St Ives Lancers reinforced now by the St Ives Academy Training Group and the ComGuard's 87th Division. Mercy is neither asked for or given as the 2 sides smash into each other in a battle within the ruins of a vibrant city. Occasional flashes of naval orbital laser fire only add to the death toll both military and civilian. However by dawn on the 21st the last of the Thuggee battlmechs have fallen and their pilots are dead.

At the same time the last of the Thuggee's are being destroyed within the ruins of Tien-Tan, the so far uncommitted fighters attached to the 87th Division launch from their base and head for the orbiting Avatar of Kali. The remaining St Ives fighters provide an escort and manage to keep the by now worn and damaged fighters of the warship's depleted screen from intercepting more than 3 of the 39 fighters. Of the remaining 36 ComGuard fighters no less than 12 are carrying nuclear ordinance - supplied by St Ives. While not closing to the suicidal range of the first nuclear strike upon the Avatar of Kali no fewer than 11 of the 12 nuclear equipped fighters manage to launch and 7 nuclear warheads hit the warship. With her entire starboard side effectively destroyed, her back broken and over half the ship open to the void and the other half powerless the ship begins to slowly break apart in orbit. In one final attempt of mass murder the single remaining Vengeance class carrier (the other had been destroyed in the fighting) attempts to emulate the 4 Overlord dropships who rammed the planet. However aware of the possibility the surviving ComGuards and St Ives fighters swarm the ship and destroy it. A number of enemy fighter pilots do however manage to reenter orbit and ram the planet using their aerospace fighters as makeshift kinetic missiles to cause additional damage now that they have no hope of landing on a friendly carrier.

The reports from the still intact HPG station on St Ives filter out to the rest of the Inner Sphere. The 2nd St Ives Lancers immediately heads for the planet as do the the 5th FedSun's Dragoons RCT and the FSS Goshen and FSS Clovis. They arrive too late to help destroy the Avatar of Kali or the invaders but immedietly begin working to help save who they can from the devastated capital city of the planet. Work immediately starts on digging out the former Ducal Palace in the vain hope of finding survivors.

The entire Inner Sphere reacts in horror at the devastation and war crimes committed upon St Ives by a vessel of the Capellan Confederation. The Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao, appearing visibly horrified broadcasts a fervent denial of involvement and the denouncement of his sister's actions. He calls upon the CCAF and all loyal Capellan Confederation to wipe her and her demented followers out.

First Prince Victor Davion, having already condemned the attacks and sent word to Korsakov's Cossack's to escort Cassandra Allard-Liao to wherever she wishes to go (along with his private and heartfelt condolences to her personally), now turns to the Chancellor's broadcast. In 4 simple words he voices the feelings of his entire realm. "Too little. Too late."

On the 23rd of September, while the flames of Tien-tan are still visible from orbit, the Federated Sun's formally declares war upon the Capellan Confederation. Operation Rat II and Rat III are immedietly authorised for implementation. Dozens of RCT's and battlemech regiments lift off from garrison postings and head for their jump off points to invade the Confederation. Escorting them are dozens of warships and hundreds of jumpships. Marshal of the Armies Jackson Davion at his princes's command masterminds the invasion from New Avalon and arranges for the attacking forces to hit the Confederation in a single attack. On the 1st of October the AFFS will break like a tsunami across the Confederation and in the words of Admiral William "Wet Willie" Kossacks of the 2nd Davion Guards will "wipe the foul taint of the Liao's from the Inner Sphere forever..."

The Federated Sun's is joined in this deceleration of war by the Lyran Alliance, although given the distance involved this will be little more than a gesture of support. No formal deceleration of war is made by the St Ives Compact - largely due to it's current decapitated state, but every single military force within the St Ives Military Command goes to a war footing.

Within the Federated Sun's the military industrial sector ramps up production of everything from combat boots to battlemechs. Volunteers flood into the recruiting stations beyond even the already impressive numbers. Entire regiments of infantry and armour are formed up from these volunteers and begin training, with the best candidates directed towards the expanding military academies for more advanced training as battlemech mechwarriors, aerospace fighters, battle armour troopers or officers.

The existing military industrial output is expanded when the Koschei line on Tikonov is personally commissioned by the First Prince. The production along with salvage from the failed Free Tikonov invasion is set aside to form a 2nd Tikonov Cossack's.

Johnston Industries announce that the entire production of their new Thunderbolt line on New Syrtis will be donated to help rebuild the 1st St Ives Lancers on the 30th September. They are joined in this deceleration by Kallon Industries who promise the same for their new Enforcer III line on Novaya Zemlya and by GM who promises the output of their new Maelstrom line on Victoria.

Federated Sun's Defence Industries Vedette line also goes operation in September. While it's product is hardly the cutting edge of military production it is snapped up and diverted to the large number of training armoured regiments.

On the Andurien front the first half of the month is filled with growing despair for the Grand Duchy's defenders. Lord Baxter and his attached regiments arrive at the world on the 17th and land at the Canopian LZ. With customary arrogance Lord Baxter orders the 1st and 2nd Magestracy Highlander's to follow his commands and launches a 2 pronged attack. With his own command battalion, the 1st McCarron's Armoured Cavalry and the 2nd Magestracy Highlanders he heads for the capital city of Jojoken and it's entrenched garrison the 1st Andurien Defenders. The 3rd McCarron's Armoured Cavalry and 1st Highlanders is dispatched to break the siege of Baroda.

Faced with being pinned between the relieving column and the garrison the 1st Kearny Highlanders and Northwind Hussars break contact and swing back towards Jojoken to join the garrison there. Or at least that's what they intend the Capellan's to think. Instead they march across country and manage to hit the flank of the advancing column of Lord Baxter. The experienced Marcus Baxter isn't caught entirely unprepared although his flanking scouts are swiftly crushed. Their deaths do at least give him time to mount a proper defence. He manages to hold his line against the attacking Northwind Highlanders long enough for them to be forced to withdraw back towards Jojoken as the 2nd Liao Guard advances on their rear.

Even as all of this is happening word reaches the Grand Duchy of the attack upon St Ives. While many commanders within the Confederation are horrified into an almost paralysis by this, Lord Baxter reacts swiftly and launches a full scale attack upon Jojoken before the knowledge can sap the morale of his troops. His own 2 regiments lead the attack side by side with the fanatical 2nd Liao Guard and are soon smashing their way into the city block by block. The other Capellan units move up in support, but the Magistracy Highlanders commit themselves only to patrols around the perimeter of the city. The only small mercy is that Lord Baxter renounces orbital bombardment so as not to draw any parallels between his own attacks and those of the "mad Thuggees".

As the news of the fate of Tien-tan spreads morale amongst the civilian population of Andurien falters and crumbles, with widespread attempts to leave not only Jojoken but also the entire world. Other worlds within the Grand Duchy see similar flight by those who are able and soon a large number of refugees are heading into the Free Worlds League or even in some cases around the Capellan Confederation's periphery border and into the Federated Suns. As September ends the city of Andurien is a battle zone, but the Grand Duchy is still on it's feet although is beginning to come apart under the relentless assaults of the CCAF.

Within the Confederation itself there is shock at the bombardment of St Ives. However the ever present MASK units within the long standing Confederation worlds manage to almost immedietly shut down any protests while cutting off feed from St Ives. Within the former Sarna March however this is impossible and open rebellions break out on over 2 dozen worlds. On Ningpo the rebelling civilian population is joined not only by elements of the Home Guard but also by the Green Giant's mercenary company of former-AFFS General Arisota Neece who breaks her contract with Sian in disgust at the news. Laurel's Legion's 2 under strength battlemech battalions immedietly attempt to destroy the Green Giant's for breach of contracts but the Green Giants, former Chisholm Raiders almost to a mechwarrior fade back and lead them on a wild goose chase into the rebel areas while stinging them with minor raids. The Legion isn't helped by the horrendous levels of morale amongst many of it's troops due to the pictures from St Ives spreading like wildfire...

Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao upon receipt of the deceleration of war from the Federated Sun's is seen to have a borderline nervous breakdown by those closest to him. Through backdoor channels he immedietly requests to know what conditions the Federated Sun's would accept in order to avoid war - even offering up the head of his sister as soon as he can find her... Unconditional surrender is the single 2 word response he gets...

You were saying about Sun-Tzu not able to catch a break...?  >:D

For the record also - the Warrior Houses? The unknown fighters? Hell half the crew? Kali's friends backing up her Thuggees. So you are entirely correct. She's now being used pretty much as a puppet by the WOB. A wildly deranged, unpredictable puppet. But one they can use as long as they keep a LONG distance between themselves and her.

The Grand Duchy of Andurien is falling apart. They have been smashed, battered and hammered. The mercenary support let them hold the line for a little while longer but frankly the Highlanders aren't here for a do or die last stand. And the Andurien's are reduced to basically 3 badly mauled units of their own. If Andurien could hold for a few more months maybe the FedSuns can save them, but they are starting to crack. It's unlikely they'll hold out long enough. The Big MAC might be bastards, but they are competent bastards after all.

As for the rest of the League - Oriente would LOVE to help the Anduriens if only to get the prestige and stomp on Sian's toes. But if they do that, they weaken themselves against the Atreus faction and Regulans.

******, now I'm on tenterhooks waiting for the next one.

Sure, it's a FedSunsFY! story and it's probably going to go the way Victor and the Federated Suns are after, but it's the parts in-between that fascinate me here. Things like the looks at other states, the production ramp-ups, whenever there's a character interaction, etc.

This opposite-day Xin Sheng and it's ramifications in the assault on Andurien and how that will fall out will be a good read.

I wish there was a Threadmark/Reader function with the board. Wonder if that's a suggestion that can be made?

Andurien only needs to hold out until Sunny Boy realizes that he can choose between having the MAC conquer Andurien for him or having the MAC defend his celestial ass on Sian.

Damn... just damn...

I imagine one of those realistic gritty war movies with Micheal Bay in charge of pyrotechnics: Kai charging across the field carving apart enemy Mechs with Hatchet and Gauss strikes. Then a scene with like Death Star technicians reading the superlaser ‘Target One has entered the field: all forces half and retarget Priority One’. Then a scene from Thermopoly where a thousand arrows fly into the sky: and blackness envelops the screen. A minute later some second perspective sees a dozen PPCs blasting apart the remains of the mech and suddenly a Tarrentino Style Red Rage overwhelms the field.

Damn Kali just signed her own death warrant with a single act.

This raise a question though will the DC support them in this and run the risk of being tarred with the same brush?

If the DC was to attack the Suns while they were busy carving up the Confederation, then yea, things will get sticky.

Sunny Boy is about as deep in the shit as any person can possibly be.

St. Ives happened because the Word of Blake struck that deal with him with the intent of making the St. Ives attack happen, and Sunny Boy almost certainly understand that.

Just about the only thing he can do to take revenge is to make public, to the entire Inner Sphere, how the Word of Blake is involved in this. That should throw a spanner into further covert actions of the Wobbies.

If the DC was to attack the Suns while they were busy carving up the Confederation, then yea, things will get sticky.

Less then you'd think, the AFFS still has a cruiser squadron in the Drac March plus it's corvettes and more warships in reserve. And with a lot under construction, they can even afford to be aggressive with them. Plus they are not moving any units really away from the March either, with still more in reserve. And if they can knock off enough of the CCAF Navy in the opening, they can pull back a lot of those ships. That is what Victors buildup has done for the AFFS.

If Hohiro is stupid enough to attack the Federated Suns border he'll find its both waiting and on a full war footing. And probably having enough logistics and reserves moving in from the Crucis March to even go on the offensive ... New Independence Weaponry is probably up for a 'hostile' takeover of Independence Weaponry after all :D

As for Sun Tzu, well, he be ******. If he could be assured of being able to live his life out in peace, he might have been able to just abdicate in favor of Casandra. But I think we're a long way past that. Even if it's pretty clear Kali did this all herself, he was ultimately responsible for both setting her free and managing to loose an entire damn warship! Interesting that Marcus seems to be making a play to carve his own state out of what's left of Andurien? Bet we see the rest of the MAC lift off 'to reinforce the attack' plus their dependents, a hop skip and jump ahead of the Davion attack no doubt incoming...

Good to see the ComGuard being big damn heroes here, be sure to play that up in the propaganda to continue to set them apart from the WOB!

And happily it looks like thanks to the already running incitement in the Sarna March, the AFFS will (mostly) be able to all but walk right in here. Which, conveniently will let them prepare staging grounds for Terra without it looking at all suspicious ....
