it's a direct-fire ballistic weapon, so yes

Not much point for the Crossbow J having a two ton targeting comp if they don't.

But MGs are also a "direct-fire ballistic weapon", yet they DON'T benefit from a TC?

Machine guns and flamers are explicitly excluded from the targeting computer bonus (Total Warfare, page 113, BattleMech Manual, page 97)

I know that, I just understand the "Why" of it.   :undecided:

Due to the short range of the weapons maybe?

IIRC, It was originally stated that it's because they are burst weapons, & not really "direct", more like a micro-AE weapon.
Not that they are the only weapons to get the "burst" special ability or anything.  Because they aren't obviously.

But then they say ACs will either fire one solid round or . . . a Burst of rounds, to inflict the damage they're rated at.     So, there are Holes in their "Logic" for that Rule.

A 3 round burst of 120MM APFSDS rounds v/s a 100+ rounds of 7.62mm........

I get why one is a "burst" and the other isn't.

And lets not even talk of a Flame Thrower.

Perhaps Precision Fire is the component that is missing.

From the AP Gauss entry on Sarna:

Quote
Developed in 3069 by Clan Jade Falcon, the Anti-Personnel Gauss Rifle is a scaled-down Gauss rifle meant for work against conventional infantry and battle armor. While functioning similarly to needler weapons, it fires metal flechettes at supersonic speeds, allowing for additional penetration against heavier armor, unlike traditional needler systems. Though the weapon began life as a battle armor weapon, it was soon adopted by heavier units throughout the Clans.[3]

Whether that's what it says in Tech Manual I don't know off the top of my head, but the AP Gauss rifle sounds as precise as a machine gun to me.
