I don't know if pushing the Nova Cats around is going to work out that well.  they might just jumpship (yes I used it as a pun) to work with the Sun Jags.

It could go badly. But he needs some "help" from his "vassal". Traditionally not exactly an easy relationship for the Kurita's to manage. Theodore however is better than most at it.

Johnston Industries now has 4 Dagger-O line's on New Syrtis, 2 more on Novoya Zemyla, 2 more on Torrence,  2 more on Addicks and another 1 on Benet... How much more love can I give them??? :p

Still thank you for the compliment! :D

3065 - August - Cave ins

The First Prince having been looking over the reports on Comstar's investments in new factories and infrastructure in the early hours of the 1st of August found his attention drawn to the world of Ozawa and remembering an almost forgotten footnote in his long ago history lessons as August began. Calling up on his screen the pertinent details of that world's history and then bringing up the world of Torrence which had also recently received an investment to create a new factory producing Dagger-O fighters his attention was drawn to the defunct Veridian Dynamics, once a premier supplier of armoured vehicles for not only the AFFS but even the Star League. A number of further computer queries at his terminal soon had him making notes for the following day's morning meeting with the Princes's Champion and Duchess Marik.

At breakfast on the 1st of August a visibly tired Victor spoke with Ardan and Isis and explained his research project of earlier that morning and explained that he wished them to look into what the exact legal state of the long defunct and shut down Veridian Dynamics was. Given it's military production history the Princes's Champion could lead said investigation while leaving much of the actual details to the by now well trusted Duchess Marik. At the current time the First Prince did not wish this matter to be raised formally in case it prompted questions he didn't wish answered or led to whoever did own the remnants of the company realising of the Princes's interest.

Within 2 weeks the Prince received an update from his two investigators over a similar breakfast meeting. It appeared that Veridian Dynamics had slowly faded into the background of the Succession Wars. It's two main products had been relegated to the annals of history for different reasons. The Vali artillery tank had relied upon the advanced Arrow IV missile launcher and when this technology had been lost the production lines had been shut down and mothballed, while the T-12 Tiger Medium Tank had had the opposite problem. Long considered obsolete by the very start of the Succession Wars it's limited production runs and small orders from planetary militias had finally made the production facility on Torrence no longer cost effective and the lines had been shut. The company still existed but as a very limited supplier of small mechanical parts and repair facilities for the local militia on Torrence.

The First Prince immedietly called for other key advisers and soon a plan was put in place to resurrect the company and keep it in private ownership. Rather than buy the company outright the First Prince instead arranged for it's remaining corporate officers to be contacted and offered government subsidies and investments to upgrade and rebuild their long dormant factory lines and put both of their production lines into operation again on long term exclusive deals with the AFFS. While the Vali's design had been an SLDF design and had withstood the test of time well the T-12 had not. As such a new and revitalised design was immedietly to be started at the NAIS's specialist facilities. More armour, ideally more range and a more modern weapon load out was the remit but at the suggestion of Ardan Sortek 5 ton's should be shaved of the design so that it could fit in a light vehicle bay on a dropship - although retaining the AC-10 would also allow it to use the speciality ammunition that NAIS had developed. While the Tiger would never be a front line combat tank again all of the military officers could see the benefit in a domestically produced cheap tank that could be used to bolster second line militia formations in the Outback or behind the front lines. A team is dispatched to the company headquarters on Torrence to broker this deal by the end of August.

Marshal Amelia Fitzwilliam's meets with Marshal Arisota Neece of the 1st Chisholm Raiders to discuss the proposed reformation of the Chisholm Raider's Brigade. The meeting does not go well. The temperamental Neece flies into a rage at the proposed break up of her RCT into LCT's. Very little that her superior can say seems to have any real effect on the enraged Marshal who storms around the office shouting until Fitzwilliam's loses her own temper and tells her to shut the hell up and sit down. She then explains that Neece is already on very thin ice with the High Command. Her command style has been raised on a number of occasions and the issues that she had had on Klathandu IV with her subordinate Leftenant General Vega had not gone unnoticed. Frankly her superior officer informed her that her temper tantrum was more befitting of a child than a flag ranked officer within the AFFS and it was now making her question whether or not she should be commanding a RCT at all let alone a LCT! Combined with the other issues that had already been of concern Marshal Fitzwilliam relieves Marshal Neece of command there and then, pending charges of conduct unbecoming of an officer as will her "hatchet-man" Captain Harold Kerr. If she wishes to avoid these charges she can of course resign gracefully but the same offer is not extended to the captain who is also placed under arrest. In the meantime the commanding officer of the Brigade sends for Leftenant General Ryan Davion-Cole, executive officer of the 2nd Chisholm Raiders to take command. While she is loathe to break up the winning command team of the 2nd she feels it may be the only way to actually salvage the 1st and restore it to it's former glory. Until Davion-Cole arrives she takes direct and personal command of the 1st.

On 14th of August at a pirate jump point close in to the world of Highspire a large force of Federated Sun's jumpships flicker into existance and begin disgorging a heavy task force of dropships. Leading the way is the 1st Federated Sun's Armoured Cavalry who streak towards the planetary capital of Crescent, while a secondary force consisting of primarily cargo dropships and conventional troop carriers also land some distance away.

Even as the noble's forces in Crescent prepare to fight of the elite 1st Federated Sun's Armoured Cavalry a large force of local militia bolstered by a number of battlemech companies with unknown markings come pouring out of the Chu-li mountains and head directly for the secondary force in a clear attempt to overrun this formation before their battlemech equipped companions can return to help them. Strangely the 1st FSAC makes no effort to rush to the aid of their compatriots and instead uses this expectation to slam through the disjointed and badly coordinated noble houses individual lances and companies. Breaking them up into their component elements the 1st FSAC make quick work of the mostly older model battlemechs piloted by lesser noble cousins and ageing retired veterans.

Meanwhile as the large force of infantry and 4 battlemech companies from the heavily populated Chu-li mountain's approach the landed dropships they run straight into a murderous crossfire from the 2nd Federated Sun's Armoured Cavalry. Having been snuck onto the world in the bellies of some of the cargo dropships the former warriors of the Federated Freemen have under cover of nightfall slipped from their transports and deployed along the route that the attacking militia were taking towards the dropships.

The veteran mechwarriors of the 2nd FSAC waste no time in concentrating their fire on the unknown mech formations leading the Capellan's counter attack and soon cut them to pieces, despite the surprising skill these unknown companies show, before turning their guns on the massed infantry formations which make up the bulk of the militia. Although inflicting horrendous causalities the 2nd Federated Sun's Armoured Cavalry has to call in air support from not only their own attached fighter wings but also the 1st's as the enemy infantry just keeps charging in human wave attacks more reminiscent of fanatical Kurita troops. These infantry formations as well as the 4 battlemech companies are later discovered to have been Thugee Cultists's sworn to Kali Liao herself.

With the last formations destroyed and broken up the 2 Davion units move into the city of Crescent and begin the systematic looting of the Liao palaces and properties there. Reclaimed and or rebuilt following Highspires return to Capellan control these luxurious buildings contain a treasure trove of antiques and treasure assembled to provide every possible comfort for the Duchess of Highspire, Kali Liao herself. All of these treasures are methodically stripped from the buildings before engineers demolish them. The same thing happens to the estates and palaces of every noble on the planet - with flying columns of FSAC battlemechs and vehicles escorting engineering troops to do the necessary work. Also looted are the casinos, hotels, banks and other establishments that cater to the nobility of the Capellan Confederation that visit the planet. Every single thing of value that can be seized is loaded into the dropships, including a phenomenal amount of the famed and much valued Highspire Tallwood. The officers and troops of the Federated Sun's Armoured Brigade are careful to limit their activities to the property of either Capellan national companies, the nobility of the Confederation or the Liao family themselves. The actual people are not subjected to any looting - however given the economic damage that is being inflicted it will have a knock on effect upon them.

As this looting is being conducted a series of fighter-bombing missions take place against a number of targets within the Chu-Li mountains. The officers of the 2 Davion regiment's aren't foolish enough to lead their troops into the narrow valleys and ambush spots of the mountains but they have their aerospace formations carpet bomb all Liao/Capellan/Thugee targets. Military bases, small spaceports and even the underground cavern complex that Kali Liao uses to host her Thugee Cult activities are subjected to a saturation level bombardment from heavily laden aerospace fighters who control the skies. Only when a site is totally destroyed to the fighters move on - for instance the fighters continue to hammer the mountainsides around the Thugee complex with special bunker-buster munitions until a seismic readings show a number of serious cave in's within the region.

On the 28th of August when the two military commands withdraw from Highspire with almost overloaded dropships they send a quick message to the shattered world's remaining defenders and governments. "Thank Jaffray's Own for this visit."

When word of this message reaches Sian the Chancellor has to temporarily imprison his sister to avoid her from travelling to Footfall and slaughtering the entire Jaffray's Own regiment with her own bare hands. He also has to limit his sister's contact with the outside world to ensure she doesn't pass on similar orders to her cultist friends and allies. In the meantime and just in case he orders Jaffray's Own to lift off from Footfall and head towards it's new garrison posting - New Roland on the Periphery-FWL border.

Both FSAC regiments have suffered only light losses that will be swiftly replaced as per the traditions of the Federated Sun's Armoured Cavalry. The 2nd is still somewhat under strength but is building up to full strength as quickly as suitably qualified warriors can be transferred to the command without weakening other regiments excessively. It is also scheduled for conversion to a reinforced regiment in the coming year.

The looted materials will be forwarded to New Avalon where the First Prince will have some of the less gaudy items picked out to decorate a "Highspire" room at Mount Davion (which will also be panelled in Highspire Tallwood), with the rest being either auctioned off and the proceeds given to AFFS related charities or sent to museums across the FedSuns. It will become a House Davion tradition moving forward that when informally meeting with ambassadors from other Successor States moving forward that these meetings will take place within the Highspire Room - as a pointed reminder of what House Davion is capable off if they are disrespected.

During August a number of personnel transfers will begin to take place within the Federated Sun's warship fleet. The FSS Covenant will begin to have a number of established crew members leave the ship to join new commands and their replacements will usually be younger and often with few if any living relatives. A few doomsayers within the crew comment that the warship is being prepared for a suicidal mission, but these rumours are soon quashed by the officers. Although no official reason is given for the trend within the crew. However the trend will continue despite the assurances that the ship is not being prepared for a death ride.

Challenge Systems will during August agree to the deal offered to them from Universal Air. Both companies will push ahead with plans to add a Monolith production facility at Delavan as quickly as possible. They will be helped with this by full AFFS and Government support.

Challenge Systems will also during this time being constructing an additional warship slip at Panpour. With 2 slips already constructing Congress-D II and a 3rd large slip almost complete the 4th slip which is starting to be built is another medium sized slip suitable for cruisers or large frigates.

On Point Barrow the Flashman line at the GM plant came online. Immediately Comstar request access to that production line but they are told that this plant pre-dates any agreement with them for this battlemech design and will be exclusively for the AFFS. If any of the production exceeds the AFFS's needs then the excess will be offered to other parties - including Comstar who will be free to bid for them.

Comstar also offered the royal variant design for the Demon combat vehicle to both GM and Kallon. Refusing a single contract supplier they insisted on offering both companies equal rights to produce the Gauss rifle armed tank for the ComGuards. After some discussions the two companies agreed to not only produce the tank at their joint facility on El Dorado but also built them individually. GM would put the design into production at a new facility on Verde in the Draconis March (counting on subsidises being offered for new vehicle production by the Duke of Robinson to help fund the plant), while Kallon would add a Demon line to their already building plant on Belladonna. These lines would be split with the almost pro-forma 50% to the ComGuards and 50% to the AFFS.

Faced with the growing WOB threat and with little opportunity to strike back with his limited and now mistrusted warship forces the Interim Primus is forced to accept the logic of his Precentor Martial's advice regarding warship production. He sends word to New Avalon to this effect at the end of August. Along with a firm direction to the Precentor New Avalon to make sure that the deal obtained is the best one possible for Comstar and to oversee the Precentor Martial.

Within the Lyran Alliance a number of experienced mechwarriors, armour crews and infantry platoons and companies begin slowly being assembled on Tharkad. At the current time no suggestion is made of what the purpose of this gathering is, although many speculate that it is to reform the 10th Lyran Guard which had defected to the AFFS.

On Luthien the Coordinator awaits the Nova Cat emissaries he had requested and prepares guest rooms for them. As a show of strength and to honour them he prepares a reception committee of 3 Sword of Light Regiments plus his 2 Household Regiments and 2 cruisers in orbit.

The Captain-General of the Free Worlds League after a great deal of bartering and horse trading manages to get through an expansion of the Legionary Training Academy's facilities on Andurian to speed up the creation of new Free World Legionnaires commands. He also formally brings the 8th fully online and authorises the formation of the 9th as a training cadre - although he wishes to push for this command to be made active sooner than the others.

Thomas Marik is also facing strong questioning within the Parliament as to why the 3rd Free Worlds Guards remain on Caph. For now he is passing it off a a humanitarian mission or as peacekeeping forces. Although within the FWLM there are growing whispers that the command has "mutinied". Given the fate of the 4th Free Worlds Guard the other regiments of the Brigade are horrified at this potential betrayal and begin making plans accordingly.

After nearly 3 years of construction headaches and technical problems the Dragonfly aerospace fighter reenters production upon Canopus. No fewer than 3 lines have been constructed to produce this venerable design, suitably updated for the modern age. This opening is trumpeted as a triumph of Canopian-Capellan-Taurian cooperation and the design will be produced for all 3 realms. A small team within the FedSun's will take note of this new design and consider the implications.

Those battlemechs are still in full production - although you are right perhaps an additional line for battlemechs could be added to one of the new satellite factories. Not so sure about using "Garm" and "excellent" in the same sentence though...

Excellent story so far sir. Might I suggest that in addition to the elevation of the navies importance within the AFFS, there also be a revamp of the Naval ranks to correct what I have felt to be a flaw.
Namely, grossly inaccurate positioning of the rank of Fleet Admiral subordinate to the rank of Field Marshal. If I remember correctly, the AFFS ranks are generally derived from US and UK rank system i.e. the NATO rank system. Within which, a Field Marshal(British Army) is equal in rank to a Fleet Admiral(USN)though not necessarily equal in authority or seniority.
Another discrepancy is the lack of an equivalent rank to "Marshal of the Armies", soldiers generally take great pride in their service branch, so a naval officer having progressed to the highest echelons of command would probably feel insulted that his service branch has a sort of "glass ceiling" in regards to it's rank conventions and therefore is forced to use army rank conventions to reach the pinnacle of AFFS command. As a way to acknowledge the navies growing importance to AFFS and the realm as a whole, I suggest that akin to SLDF's Commanding Admiral, the AFFS create the rank of Admiral of the Navy to be assumed by a Naval officer promoted to the position of Marshal of the Armies.

In regards the ComGuards equipment needs, perhaps they could offer licenses the Raijin and Grim Reaper to Lyran companies that aren't heavily focused on assault mechs. Such as Mountain Wolf BattleMechs, Blackstone BattleMechs, Blue Shot Weapons, Defiance of Furillo or as in canon Coventry Metal Works which produces the Hussar.
The bulk of the production would be slated to ComStar and SLDF, while the company that gains the contract/contracts allowed sell any surplus to approved parties(basically FWLM, CCAF, DCMS, WoB and associated mercenaries or allies would be blacklisted).

IIRC Admiral Kossacks of the 2nd Davion Guards had the title of Fleet Admiral after George Hasek gave him the Marshall's rank. So it's not entirely inconceivable that the rank could be 'adjusted' appropriately.

Openly subverting the 3rd FWL Guards was really bonehead move by WoB, it will give a public impetous to combating their influence in FWL.

3065 - September - Concord Reborn

On the 1st of September Marshal Arisota Neece formally resigns her commission and goes into retirement in order to avoid the shame of a formal court martial. She immedietly cashes in her financial assets, pensions and seeks backers to fund her own mercenary formation - Neece's Giants, a roughly company sized outfit of mostly refurbished medium weight battlemechs named partially for her form command's nickname the Green Giants. A small number of current and former Raiders join up with her although most of them aren't exactly considered great losses to the AFFS. The one officer who almost certainly would have joined her is Captain Harold Kerr who is now in a maximum security military prison facing a number of ever growing charges. It's no surprise to anyone not even the former Marshal when the AFFS does not offer her mercenary company a contract. Likewise the Lyran Alliance and Free Worlds League turn down her requests for contracts. However both the WOB and the Capellan Confederation extend offers, of which Neece accepts the Capellan Contract to help garrison Ningpo.

While the former command of the 1st Chisholm Raiders is seeking employment elsewhere the remaining flag officers of the unit both active and retired continue to be canvassed as their views upon the reformation of the Brigade from RCT's to LCT's. Most have misgivings but all of them can see why their own small demi-brigade was picked for the possible conversion. Their regiments are famous for their irregular tactics and innovative ways of waging war and this conversion might be a good fit for them. Although some concerns are raised by various officers it is finally agreed by the majority that Marshal Fitzwilliam's should accept the offer of the Chisholm Raiders Brigade being restructured from 2 RCT's to 8-10 LCT's. Although newly assigned Leftenant General Ryan Rand-Davion points out that the Raiders should push for upgrades to their battlemech and vehicles to maximise their firepower given the smaller nature of the future commands as well as access to the latest designs and omnimechs.

This acceptance is forwarded to the Marshal of Armies Jackson Davion who makes preparations for both Chisholm Raiders to be "raised" to reinforced status so as to allow the creation of more integrated LCT's in the fullness of time. The conversion will wait till both commands are at full strength as reinforced regiments and as such may take 3-4 years if this expansion is done slowly, although some consideration is being given to adding a small number of LCT's to the existing commands in the meantime or expanding the units faster at a risk that some of the new LCT's formed will not be as well integrated or experienced as might be wished.

Kallon Industries announces in September that it will be entering into a partnership with Prescision Weaponry to build a new battlemech facility on Tancredi. This plant will when fully operational be buried deep underground against any attacks and consist of a Penetrator 6T variant line and 2 lines producing the Rifleman 8D and 6X variants. If this plant is a success there is some thought of adding a Shadow Hawk line to the facility in the near future.

The newly reforming 28th Avalon Hussars is ordered to move from it's base alongside it's parent formation on Crofton and take up station guarding the auto-cannon construction plant on Gulkana. Although woefully under strength it is felt that such a posting will give the unit time to expand while also increasing security on that troubled world - which will hopefully lead to increased production and sales of their high quality guns.

The Precentor Martial requests a meeting with the First Prince and suggests in the request that Fleet Admiral Buchwald be included in the meeting on the 4th. He does not however include the Precentor New Avalon in the request despite orders to the contrary. When the meeting takes place 3 days later the two officers are almost shocked to hear the request from Comstar that they be allowed to build a shipyard capable of construction warships within Federated Sun's space. Victor is the first to ask a question, namely just how large a facility is Comstar talking. The Precentor Martial explains that initially they would be looking to build 2 slips capable of building a modern corvette design, but eventually adding destroyer and frigate slips at the very least. Admiral Buchwald does then point out that as far as he knows the ComGuard's navy have no modern day corvette design in production, unless it's a new design. Focht smiles at this and points out the Fleet Admiral is entirely correct but that they were hoping that the Federated Sun's would share with them the proven Fox corvette and help them get it into production as soon as possible as a counter to the warships no doubt under construction within the Terran system.

This final point, which has weighed heavily on both the Davion prince and his naval commander, carries a great deal of weight and the First Prince promises to consider this request but asks what the ComGuards are offering in return for not only permission to build shipyards but also such a major design. The Precentor Martial offers that in return for the rights to build shipyards the ComGuards will promise to fund the construction of a similar number and size of shipyards at any location the Davion's request. So if they build 2 slips for corvettes at their own shipyard they will fund the building of 2 slips within Davion shipyards to build corvettes. As for the design of the Fox they offer to undertake the mission that the First Prince has hired one of their Faslane yardships to complete for free and not only that but undertake the redesign and upgrade of the ship design in question free of charge and using their own impressive technological capabilities. They can start by December if the First Prince gives the go ahead.

First Prince Davion explains that for such a major decision he wishes to get the opinion of key advisers and also the High Command, which the Precentor-Martial agrees is reasonable. He does however point out that this is the best offer he can make in the circumstances and it is very unlikely to be improved upon.

After a number of heated sessions with his advisers and the High Command the First Prince soon responds to the ComGuards request with his approval. He suggests that they begin constructing a new warship shipyard over the world of Novoya Zemyla for themselves and that any Davion slips they will fund are to be constructed at the new shipyard of Filtvelt to expand the production facilities there. Knowing the desperate straights that the ComGuard's Navy finds itself in the Precentor Martial agrees before even checking the terms and locations with the Interim Primus. Although this approval is granted, this action and the failure to include the New Avalon Precentor in the negotiations is more than an irritation to Interim Primus Dow who formally rebukes Precentor Martial Focht and reminds him that he serves upon the whim of the Primus.

However before the matter between the two men can escalate further word comes that the WOB have attacked and destroyed the ComGuards fleet anchorage and repair facilities at Ross 248. The ComGuard's 1st Independent Squadron had manage to inflict heavy damage on the attacking force, destroying the WoBS Vendetta, a Quixote class frigate and badly damaging the WoBS White Devil and WoBS Red Angel both Riga class destroyers, but had not managed to save the facility. The CSV Hammerstrike, an Essex class destroyer had been destroyed in the fighting and the Sovetskii Soyuz class CSV Blake's Vengeance had taken heavy damage. Faced with these mounting losses the Interim Primus approves Focht's dealings but does not forget his insubordination.

New Independence Weaponry announces that it will begin construction of a new Atlas line at their plant of Tikonov, largely using machinery and parts made on Tikonov itself. This will be the first line added to their plant that doesn't come from looted salvage during what is now being described as the "Talon Incursion". Work is scheduled to begin in December and will finish hopefully in October 3066.

On Outreach a number of Sun Jaguar technicians and a small warrior escort arrive to aid not only in the rebuilding of the city but also the rebuilding of a military-industrial complex. They are soon working to fully upgrade a damaged but salvageable Falcon line to Clantech standards. In return for their aid the Wolf's Dragoons promise to help support the creation of an industrial complex within the Sun Jaguar enclaves on the Periphery border.

The new Kallon Industries facility on Belladonna has it's first line enter production when the Partisan anti-aircraft tank begins constructing fully operational tanks. The Challenger MBT facility isn't far behind and the various battlemech lines are also nearing completion - although the Exterminator line is proving to be particularly difficult.

On El Dorado the Ajax omni-vehicle enters production alongside the Battlemaster battlemech line that has been operating since June 3065. The Templar-O line however is taking further time and isn't scheduled to go online until November.

The Outback FarmMech's corporation successfully negotiate with Robinson Standard BattleWorks to license the Watchman battlemech for production for local sales to the Crucis March Militia and Training Battalions as well as the local planetary defence militias. Until now almost none of the worlds within the Outback could have afforded even a single lance of light battlemechs of antique vintage, but with the growing prosperity Outback FarmMech's sees a potential market that the Watchman would be ideally placed to fill. The company is also in discussions with Corean and Achernar to license a Locust line.

Johnston Industries announce during September that they intend to add a Caeser production line to their production facility at Torrence while also adding a Hatchetman line at their new plant on Novoya Zemyla and potentially an Axman line there as well in the future. They have seen their Dagger-O profits soaring over the last few years as the production of the signature omnifighter doubled and doubled again, but their battlemech sales had languished. This is a first step in attempting to catapult them back into the major leagues for not just fighter designs.

On Woodbine the Robinson Standard BattleWork's plant has a Black Knight line enter production, with a back order catalogue of over 6 months production to be sent to the various commands within the Draconis March's Edgeward Combat Theatre. A full company will be diverted to the 1st Ceti Hussars RCT stationed between Niles and Groveld, with further follow on orders to be used to rebuilding the Bryceland and Mayetta DMM's command companies and lances.

At Tharkad the troops being drawn from across the LAAF slowly increase towards the level of being a full combat command of a RCT. By now almost everyone is certain that the Archon intends to announce the formation of a premier RCT to help with the faltering morale within the LAAF, although a few are now wondering if the initial guesses of the 10th Lyran Guards is the correct one.

The Coordinator formally welcomes the Clan Nova Cat delegation to the Imperial Palace. After a short round of pleasantries and honours, including the gift of a fully rebuild former Clan Smoke Jaguar built Warhawk omnimech to the Clan delegation, he gets down to business. The Dragon is critically short on aerospace fighters and warships of all types while their Davion enemies are advancing in leaps and bounds in this area. He however is aware that previous Clan Smoke Jaguar had seen promise in the Combine built Sai aerospace fighter and had upgraded a factory to Clantech standards to produce the fighter for their own second line formations. His own technical staff have been unable to keep the facility operating to that standard and he now wishes the Nova Cat's to aid in the production in return for a 25% share in the output.

After some discussion the Clan delegations agrees but with one additional requirement. They wish that in return for their aid in returning the factory to Clantech levels of production and technology that all former Clan Smoke Jaguar warriors and lower castes currently held by the DCMS and various planetary governments be turned over to them. All of them it is stressed. The Coordinator, who had largely ignored the Star League call to send all captured Smoke Jaguars to the Federated Suns, agrees to this seemingly minor term considering that the Clan is probably hoping to replace the personnel it will have to send to Schuyler to help with production. He is unaware that the Clan is operating on the basis of a vision.

Within the Free World's League General Tamara Findlay of the Free Worlds Guards begins sending out covert orders to the 1st, 2nd and 5th Guards. All 3 commands are officially told to concentrate at Irian for a series of war games and equipment upgrades that she herself will oversee. She does not include the 3rd Guards within her orders having decided that whatever the official line is that the unit has mutinied and betrayed the League and the Guard. Even if the politicians don't intend to do anything about this, the Guard will she swears. Alongside her 3 regiments a small force of former Guard veterans also begin to assemble on Irian, drawn largely from retired Guardsmen and women who are members of the various regimental associations. Those lacking gear will be issued battlemechs directly from Irian's huge factories and formed into an "Old Guards" regiment.

On Sian Hohiro Kurita arrives and is greeted as a long lost brother by Sun-Tzu Liao. The two men of course have met each other before and have never been close, but judging by the reception given to the Kurita heir this isn't the case. Tellingly not only does Hohiro not baulk at the over friendly reception he seems to embrace it and play his own part within the parades, receptions and balls. Kali Liao is even wheeled out (heavily medicated although the doctors have been careful to choose medications that will not be evident) and dances with the Kurita heir at a ball in his honour under the glowing smile of her brother, before being quickly ushered back to her private "rooms". The next morning once the medication has worn off the mad Liao will kill 3 of her medical orderlies and guards with her bare hands and carbon enhanced nails. Regretfully Sun-Tzu will order that her nails be removed in response to this attack.

Even while his sister is undergoing the procedure to remove her nails Sun-Tzu Liao and Hohiro Kurita meet in private to discuss the realm purpose of the visit. The warm smiles and friendly back clapping are entirely absent and the two men make no effort to hide their own apathy towards each other. Hohiro Kurita informs the Chancellor that his father had dispatched him in order to present the Confederation with a gift, he then presents a series of data chips containing the production specifications for the Inazuma class corvette. In return, the Chancellor presents the heir to the Combine with the production data to allow the Kurita's to produce stealth armour for their battlemechs. He also invites the Kurita's into an intelligence sharing alliance where they will pool the intelligence that they both have on the AFFS and Federated Suns. Neither man thinks for a minute that the other side will pool all their intelligence assets and both assume that the other will withhold the occasional key piece of information, but they both agree on behalf of their respective houses. When Sun-Tzu makes a comment that the Concord of Kapteyn is reborn, Hohiro genuinely chuckles and points out that this time they won't make the mistake of inviting the Free Worlds League to the party...

the WD still have connections with Blackwell.  Blackwell has a factory on New Valencia... that is unless GM has bought it already but I don't think that happened to 3075 and blasted in 79

3065 - October - Incursion

With intelligence reports filtering in regarding Hohiro Kurita and Sun-Tzu Liao having met on Sian throughout October the mood in Mount Davion was naturally grim. Although the reports were sparse on the details the obvious signs of friendship even if staged were in no way good news for the Federated Suns that much was obvious. Despite the fact that it was unlikely that the two states were about to immediately launch an invasion of the Federated Suns all combat commands were put on a state of heightened alert. Just in case. If nothing happened the experience wouldn't exactly be wasted either. Victor and Jackson Davion both agreed that standing the AFFS up temporarily would also send the right message of strength to the Kurita's and Liaos, basically "we're ready". In the meantime the various command staffs began preparing more up to date war plans which took into account this new potential alliance and also looking at ways to strengthen the military of the FedSun's in preparation for what might be a two front war.

In these preparations Jackson Davion with the First Princes's full blessings prioritised immediate offensives in the event of impending war. If the Kurita's and Liao's pushed for a war with House Davion they would be fighting and bleeding on their own worlds was the strong feeling of the High Command and General Staff. They would hit first, hit hard and keep on hitting until the Snakes and Dragons cried enough! Although just in case funding to increase fortifications on certain key worlds - such as the Galtor Thumb and Mitchel and Nanking - was authorised.

Even as these orders went out the planning and preparations for Yvonne Steiner-Davion's marriage to Tancred Sandoval went ahead. Robinson's already heavy defences were increased. An elite conventional armour brigade and a similarly experienced full infantry brigade were dispatched to Robinson and ordered to attach themselves permanently to the 1st Robinson Rangers to immediately raise the unit to a full RCT. Although integration would take time this was considered the best way to form a RCT around the flagship unit of the Rangers Brigade. Similar plans are put in place to do the same for the 2nd, 4th and 5th in 3066-67. As an additional safeguard against any attempt to disrupt the ceremony the Davion Light Guards RCT is dispatched temporarily to Robinson to reinforce the garrison.

In orbit the defences also weren't neglected. No less than 4 full assault dropship squadrons were assigned to Robinson along with a full independent aerospace brigade and 3 Fox corvettes - the FSS Robinson itself along with her sister ships the FSS Brest and FSS Warren. It was also expected that when the First Prince arrived he would bring with him the FSS Melissa Davion at least and probably the FSS Hanse Davion.

One area of disappointment privately was that Archon Peter Steiner had sent a message that he could not attend his sister’s wedding given the sudden crisis within his realm. Given the circumstances on the Clan Jade Falcon border this wasn't a surprise. Indeed, Yvonne had suggested to Victor that perhaps he could send some warships or a handful of RCT's to aid their brother but the First Prince had quietly refused. The Lyran Alliance had made it's decision to secede from the Federated Commonwealth and it would have to stand on it's own 2 feet without leaning on their former comrades in the Federated Suns. Although he did authorise large scale sales of military equipment to the Lyran Alliance as a way to support his brother and former subjects. An offer that was immediately accepted. Unlike within the Free Worlds League the profits of these sales would be ploughed straight back into expanding the military industrial complex. For the first time in centuries the Federated Suns was now a large scale exporter of military equipment rather than an importer.

Along with the funds from the sales of such battlemech's as Victors, Battlemasters, Atlas's and Awesomes which the LAAF were favouring in their purchase the Federated Sun's was beginning to see the first profits from their sales to the ComGuards coming in. Not only from rising factory production but also the restoration of battlemechs and tanks from the boneyards. One additional source of income from this source was the AFFS offering the services of their Hasek Refit Centre for this purpose and soon ComGuards dropships were shuttling back and forth between the various boneyards such as Novoya Zemyla and Bell with holds full of barely functional or even totally non-functional war machines that would be taken in hand and refurbished to return to active service for the ComGuards. Again, the income from these sales were going directly into financial subsidies to increase military production.

One immediate beneficiary of this investment was the funding of a new Marauder II production line on Kestrel. Long term plans had called for this line to be built but given the sales to the LAAF and their desire for "proper" assault mechs these plans were hurriedly brought forward. Construction would begin in November and with the full support of the FedSuns's Government and the Duke of Kestrel the line would be rushed into production by June 3066. During October the Marauder line enters production even as the Marauder II line is authorised.

At Galax, Kathil and Panpour the large construction slips which had been assembling were finally completed. They would immediately lay down a New Syrtis class carrier each. These ships were a new variant of the old carrier design, upgraded for the modern era and were planned to be the flagships and centre pieces of the new Federated Sun’s Fleets moving forward.

On Belladonna the Kallon Industries plant begins producing a number of Challenger Main Battle Tanks although production numbers are limited. Production wont hit full swing until well into November. Still each tanks produced is snapped up by the AFFS and ComGuards. As well as prioritising getting the Challenger line into full production the company staff are pushing hard to get their first battlemech line online for the official date of the 21st November.

The ComGuards get a huge boost in their supply lines when the new plant on Defiance comes online and has all 4 battlemech lines enter production this month. An entire line of Nexus production is immediately snapped up by the ComGuards while the Sentinel, Crab and Flashman lines are split between the AFFS and ComGuards. A second Sentinel and a Mongoose line also under construction.

Even within the Federated Sun's the main source of news in October is the news coming from the Lyran Alliance's border with Clan Jade Falcon. On the 3rd of October the Jade Falcons soar across the border and hit the worlds of Kooken's Pleasure Pit, Pasig, Mkuranga, Babaeski, Morges, A Place, Dustball, Koniz and Ballymure. Excluding the last world these are all worlds of the former Arc-Royal Defence Cordon and many AFFS units were stationed there during the FedCom era. Hitting the worlds were elements of 2 front line galaxies, the Gamma Jade Falcon Galaxy and the Delta Gryfalcon Galaxy supported by the second line Epsilon Galaxy. In attacks reminiscent of the Clan Invasion the Jade Falcons struck without mercy and with incredible speed but found themselves lacking the shock factor of old. While several units such as the 25th Arcturan Guards on Mkuranga and the newly arrived 3rd Lyran Regulars on Dustball were swiftly overwhelmed and either crushed or drive off world, other units dug in and fought back hard. On Morges the 16th Wolf Guards Battle Cluster despite facing twice their number in the 8th Talon and 4th Falcon Dragoons Cluster's smashed the 4th Dragoons in a quick engagement before turning to face the 8th on a more equal footing while sending requests for support. On Pasig a joint force from the Wolves-In-Exile and LAAF were unable to drive the Jade Falcon Guards and 9th Talon Cluster from the world but were able to hold their own in the face of the invasion.

On Tharkad the Archon Peter Steiner began organising a counterattack on the same day as the news of the invasion hit. He announced that he would personally be leading the counterattack and made it clear that 2 RCT's from the Royal Guard would be accompanying him to Arc Royal to join the rest of the assembling force. However when he named the units there was shock, he would be taking the 2nd and the 4th Royal Guards with him. Given that officially the 4th didn't exist this did cause some confusion, but the newly assembled unit was already boarding it's dropships.

Even as the Guards marched to war General of the Armies was assembling forces to join the Archon on Arc Royal while also ordering units close to the front to launch spoiling raids or prepare for additional invasions. Losses were already mounting but Adam Steiner knew that the couldn't afford to show weakness, not to the Jade Falcons and most especially not to the critics of the new regime within the Lyran Alliance itself. He wasn't aware that Duchess Yvonne Steiner-Davion had petitioned her brother to send aid but had he been he would have curtly refused it. Calling for Victor Davion to save them would reek of weakness and would likely end Peter Steiner's rule before it could truly start. However he grateful did accept the offers of military supplies at the reasonable prices the Davions were offering. Unfortunately, the officer he sent to negotiate with the Federated Suns military liaison officer was from the "old school" and so most of the machines purchased were expensive assault mechs rather than more versatile (and cheaper) light, medium and heavy mechs.

Within the Draconis Combine the Falcon assault upon the Lyran Alliance was noted and then subsequently ignored. In direct contrast to the almost united front that the Successor States had presented during the initial Clan Invasion and Operation Bulldog the DCMS made no effort to aid the LAAF in this fight. None had come to their aid during the Ghost Bear war after all. In the meantime they continue to transfer former Smoke Jaguars to the Nova Cats.

The SLDF did however dispatch the 1st Royal Battlemech Regiment to Arc Royal to join the growing LAAF force. Further reinforcements were promised, but the only current free unit was the Eridani Light Horse regiments.

Within the Clan Wolf Occupation Zone Khan Vlad Ward also took note of the invasion. He immediately summoned his bondswoman Katrina "Steiner" Wolf and sought her advice in regards to this invasion. To keep his options open he ordered the Tamar Galaxy to mobilise to support his 2 front line Galaxies at Katrina's advice. While still under strength it was felt that their inclusion might win over some to the Wolves side.

I do not want to push.  But Marauder II production line on Kestrel?  How did they get the plans for this 100 ton mech?  is it the Light fusion engine, XL or normal engine version.

Independence Weaponry had the design for the Marauder II and so New Independence have the design along with other designs like the Victor and Atlas. That was my reasoning for why they are able to put the Marauder II into production on Kestrel - plus the Marauder II wasn't in the first batch of desgisn produced, as I figured that there would be some "licensing issues" from Blackwell/Wolves Dragoons, but given the problems they have now on Outreach I figure those will be quickly resolved now.

Additionally the Dragoons sold the Marauder II to a lot of parties to upset the LA. So now that they can sell the design to a company that will be based in the FS but selling to the LA for what you presume is a steep mark up is an additional salt in the wounds approach the the LA.

:D  cool, and that make sense.  i bet the WD would sell the design for some cash, a little help rebuilding mech line, and one out every 10 Marauders II delivered to them.

I genuinely am trying to keep this mostly "realistic" if that makes sense... I mean I know that I'm pro-FS and frankly it IS a pro-FS timeline/story and I make no apology for that. But I am trying to avoid it being a total fanboy scene so anytime I am straying into that I'd love it if EVERYONE lets me know.

One issue I'm having right now is that the FS will be wanting a battleship soon. the DCN is building one and the FWLN have a revisited Atreus class in construction and the LAN has the Mjolnir class.

Now one thing I'm thinking on is them getting the specifications for the Texas class - from a clan is all I'm saying and refitting it to a more davion design and building a handful. Frankly I have 4 different ideas how they might get a hulk/captured ship/design specs.

So I'm wondering... Is this beyond the bounds of possibility?

The design specs would be easy as all the clans would have them, if they don't have them they can easily obtain them.
The Sun Jaguars from the NC.
A hulk, there would be so many on the Taurian border, but I doubt any would be worth repairing.
The DC captured one during Operation Bulldog but scuttled it.
Maybe go recover it. ;)
I wish I could get a good grip on reality, then I would choke it.

That is one of the options - get a faslane and go get the hulk. The DCN thought it wasnt repairable, but that was without faslanes.

and we do know that WoB had one.  If they had one Bttleship?  Then they might have two of them.  I would try to find info on all know hulks from ComStar, the FedSun intel, and friendly clans.  then go recover one from the old Star League days.  strip it to the frame and then rebuild it.

Is there any mention of other warship designs used by the Federated Suns prior to the Succession Wars beyond the Robinson, Davion, and New Syrtis classes? Could they be useful now?

Defender class 960ktons.  kitty hawk class carrier (from a novel), congress, Davion 1 and Davion 2, and Carson and Aegis.  those are the ones off the top of my head.  now some of them were just "sold" but I would think that they would need to make parts for them, at least.

The thing with the Defender is that she's a fundamentally flawed design. She's very fast, but her structural integrity is powerful weak. Most of the hull bracing seems to be made of rice cakes and balsa wood.  She'd also be at odds with the rest of the fleet, being exceptionally fast compared to the stately and sedate Fox and Avalon class ships.

Using the Defender as a baseline, it would be a good way to waste a lot of money and have a very fragile ship as the result, also a change from the very sturdy Fox's and Avalons.  If the Suns was to build a new large battlecruiser esque ship, the only thing i'd use from the positively ancient Defender line is its name.

Also, superb updates!  The Concord Lite at the moment seems to be a political move more than anything. The Cappies can't really do anything against the Sun's without getting smacked down very hard. It depends also what the Combine, and more importantly, what the WoB does. With the Suns providing shelter for the ComGuard and the Dragoons its very much signalling that these two are going to clash.

Honestly I've never liked the Defender class and I can't see that deeply flawed design being brought back into production.

My gut feeling is for the Davions to work on getting access to the texas design to do their own variant of.
